I started watching that Stetson Bennett documentary earlier, which touched on Jamie Newman's brief tenure as a Georgia Bulldog.
I still remember being somewhat blind-sided when he opted out, though not that disappointed... I didn't think that he was going to be very effective or us given his tenure at Wake Forest. I remember the generic concerns over Covid being given as a reason, but nothing definitive?
Anyone know the real story there?
Newman is basically just the answer to a trivia question now, but I don't think that you can overstate the bullet that was dodged by virtue of his opting out. I mean, even if he had played and had been good, we probably weren't going to be able to beat Alabama that season, and then we would have been breaking in a new QB in 2021... and that guy almost certainly would not have been Stetson Bennett. Maybe we end up winning it anyway in 2021, but it's hard to dispute that it would have been a harder task breaking in a new QB (as opposed to having two QBs with starting experience).
