Why does New Mexico lean left?

All the models/polls I have seen predict NM to go blue. I'm really surprised based on them being a border state and the immigration problem. I understand they are 49% Hispanic so maybe I've answered my own question.

IMO, New Mexico is the Mississippi of the West. Very poor, little industry and the Fed gov is a large employer/presence in the state.

Also add in all the reservations that are dependent upon Fed $$$ and it makes more sense.
