Reflecting on watching the game last night, really only one thing makes me smile...

On the long pass to Arian Smith (in which the official ran into Parker), immediately after the reception, my wife bounced up off the sofa, fist-pumped into the air, and screamed ''HE CAUGHT THE BALL!".

Still cracks me up just thinking about it.

Hey, it's not much, but I'm going to try to make that my one good takeaway memory from an otherwise miserable game.

On to 2025.

A 60 minute performance

Finally had the time to process the Sugar Bowl. All season long, this team has been unable to put together a consistent 60 minute performance. They pretty much slept through a half in every game.

Well, Thursday evening they finally put together a consistent 60 minute performance. They slept through the whole game.

Oh well, SEC Championship ain’t nothing.

Kirby needs to retool that offense though. Both personnel through the portal and coaches with new faces.

Go Dawgs…no matter the outcome.

Could we have caused delay of game on punt substitution?

When I saw it live, I was confused why we were sprinting on full speed to change personnel. Notre Dame ran off its full punt squad and the offense didn’t get set until 14 seconds left on the play clock.

Since they subbed and we are given adequate time to respond, couldn’t we have slow played it and caused Notre Dame to take a delay of game or call a TO? This wasn’t one or two guys we’d have to account for, it was a full personnel change.

I’m not a rules expert, but I’ve definitely seen late substitutions by the offense cause them to take a delay of game or waste a TO because the sub doesn’t afford the defense enough time to respond.

If you’d like to rewatch it, it occurs with 8:00 left in the 4th.

At the very least, we should have either called a TO or called their bluff that they’d actually snap it (I have no doubt they only wanted to draw us off and were never planning to snap it until Jalon jumped).

Gunner

I am no QB guru but I thought Gunner played pretty good. He looked a little nervous on the 1st drive but after that played good. He took multiple big hits and never really seemed to get rattled. Deep passes were on the money, accurate on short passes, and back shoulder. He does need to have that clock that they talk about but that will come with more starts. He’s a gamer and one tough dude. Yes I know that long delivery is scary at times but surely it’s something he can work on with a good QB coach.
Pretty disappointing in our OL play and play calling.
I always trust Kirby so I will rock with whatever decision he makes but I do think Gunner can be the man to lead us to another MNC next year.
I know it’s not the ending we wanted but we are still the sec champs and made the playoffs. I wouldn’t call this year a failure.
