Playoff X-Factors: Players

I’m laying out my chosen X Factors on offense and defense. I’m leaving out Gunner just because, but I encourage everyone to place theirs in the thread below.

Defense:
- Smael Mondon
- TID
- Chris Cole

Offense:
- Arian Smith
- Luckie/Delp
- Jared Wilson

Defensively, I think a healthy Smael being spelled by Allen or Wilson is massive for that room. He has the athleticism to erase space and make key calls. TID is a guy outside of Mykel or Jakob that can wreak havoc. Chris Cole could have a big role in the star position against ND.

Offensively, we need Arian to go the distance. He hustles and makes plays despite the drops. I’d also say he has some of the most clutch plays in GA history. Luckie/Delp, I anticipate more play action with the TEs heavily involved with Gunner at QB. Lastly, Jared Wilson helping Gunner make calls and identify the defense. I know Gunner knows the system but I think this is overlooked.

Go Dawgs! I think we beat ND by 14-17. Kirby kills teams with three weeks to get ready.

People are mistaking …

Not crowning Gunner tonight as the the starting qb for eliminating the possibility that Gunner will win the job.

He may…I’m just saying I saw nothing tonight that sewed it up for him.

I am for bringing in someone from the portal and opening it all up. As others have pointed out, Pugs has a high ceiling and Rashada was once very highly touted.

I think we will have a real open competition that may not be decided before August.

Disappointing…

But I do think there is something to be said about every team with a bye losing. Each game is certainly different and for the most part the best teams won. But don’t tell me Notre Dame being able to shake off rust against a weak Indiana team wasn’t an advantage. And Penn St was gifted two G5 teams.

NonDawg Players Getting Grad Degrees

Random question.

We are all aware of several cases where guys have graduated early with some football eligibility left, and used their fourth or fifth (hell, now it's sixth and seventh in some cases) to pursue graduate degrees either at their current school or as a transfer.

From what I recall, most of these grad degrees are either continuations of their undergrad minor (sports admin, health admin, education, communications or policy etc.), an MBA or something like that...but have we ever seen a more traditionally intensive graduate program like law or medicine while playing? I doubt there are many cases if at all with how the time demands would shake out, and I doubt a really serious football program like UGA (or a respected law school that has a traditional 1L year schedule) would ever permit it, but I'm curious if it has happened anywhere.

First Half Point Production is what kills us....

Throwing out Tn Tech and UMass, our first half points were 6, 3, 7, 14, 27, 23, 6, 7, 17, 0, 3, 3. In only 4 games, did we get reasonable production in the first half.

In past years, we were often up by 14-21 points at halftime. At that point, it allows you to substitute more freely and run the ball more with attitude, and wear the other team down gradually, because they're forced to pass. Without that early production, we can't do Kirby's boa constrictor complimentary football. We spent most of the season playing from behind or in fights deep into the fourth quarter.

And with that type of lack of point production, it's amazing that we won the SEC.

But it will have to get fixed going forward.
