Some observations about the team last night and the program...

  • Quick DL give our OL fits and have all year. We play better against the bigger bodies than we do the smaller ones. See both UTs.
  • ETN looked very tentative for whatever reason. Frazier's ball security issues are the only thing holding him back from being the clear go to guy.
  • Gunner is closer to Fromm than he is Stetson. Leonard was the much quicker QB on that field. He is not a dual threat QB at this level. That isn't a good situation with the way our OL blocks.
  • While the defense played well they still struggle with QB athleticism and edge runs. ND could run the ball and we couldn't. IMO ND played the better game defensively even though the stats don't show it due to the TO and the kick return. The defense clearly was better than the offense but I thought ND found their footing in the second half and our offense never did.
  • We lost to two teams that clearly benefited from the portal in Ole Miss and Notre Dame. We clearly did not outside of ETN. Legal issues and ability issues with this group of transfers.
  • I still contend the portal is about aiding what you are already doing more than it is about reshaping your identity. Just paying them the money isn't the answer. It is more about understanding what you need and finding those needs. We just swung and missed.
  • I think it is time to reshape the offensive staff. We need to move on from both Bobo an Searels. I feel like our plays are pulled out of a hat and have no continuity to them. It just feels like everything is hard for the offense even against weaker opponents.
  • Looking back on it, winning the SECC is a monster achievement for a team this flawed. We were closer to 8-4 than we were to contending for a NC. Without Jalen Walker we probably are 8-4.

Mike White vs Todd Gloden

Golden is 4-0 vs White I believe. Took Florida to SEC championship last year. White did good at Florida but they were not sad to see him leave, appears to be a reason for that. Hopefully things get better soon. At some point gotta stop talking about how tough SEC is and start being the one others fear. Why can't Georgia basketball get there?

The Irish are confident....or drunk....or both.....

"Them Dawgs ain't hell" Irish: I thing Georgia is overrated. They had one TD against Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Texas (in Atlanta), and it took them 8 OTs to beat Georgia Tech at home.

Dawgvent lurking Irish:
I took a trip over to the UGA board last night. To say they're taking the game for granted is an understatement. They believe they'll dominate both lines, that Leonard is too slow, and that our receivers are of no threat (they may be right on that last one). They think Kirby will get very aggressive and that he can't lose with this much time to prep. maybe 1 in 15 posts is, "I think ND is going to be a tougher game than you guys are predicting."

"Gonna take some luck. Got me lucky charms out and ready" Irish:
Georgia and OSU are the two most talented teams in the country but both are beatable.

They are a really good team and are capable of blowing us out if we don’t play great. I don’t think we are capable of blowing them out. We may win, but we will have to win the turnover battle and prevent them from running the ball. Make the young QB throw the ball and he will make mistakes. Their D line is light years better than anything we’ve seen. Concerned about RG. Pendleton wasn’t good last night

"We're better no matter who is behind center, but UGA has a shot" Irish:
I think the opening line of ND -1½ is about right. Should be a slight favorite against either QB. Have a hard time seeing them stopping the ND running attack after watching GT run all over them.

Rodney Dangerfield Irish:

It’s not just Georgia fans, it’s the entire South.

On TMB they say UGa is to ND like ND is to IU = not in the same class.

They cannot comprehend that worse ND teams have taken better Georgia teams down to the last possession. ND needs to change perceptions on NYE.

You want respect, but don't have any to give Irish: Georgia beating Texas twice surprised me a bit.

Hee Haw Irish:
Rumor has it that Their Qb might have a concussion and are now down to 3rd string at Qb...

Anchorman Irish: Please provide a link. I can not find what you are saying anywhere.

Not the smartest of the Irish: Ask yourself....Why did injured Carson Beck come back into the SEC Championship game? Link that

Rivals site Notre Dame Publisher Irish: I was told he doesn't have a concussion and practiced all week.

Ten foot tall and bullet proof Irish: ND will beat Georgia 31-17.
major QB issues for Georgia. Beck will be out and Gunner is not very good.
I like the Georgia run game so I believe they can move the ball.

ND will run for over 200

Blitz Irish Blitz: Their QB is the key to winning or losing that is why golden should put eight in the box or blitz on every other down. Knock Gunner around just to see if he gets rattled early on . Our defense will keep ND in the game and might even get a TO. Those little bubble screens are extremely effective some what an Oregon offense, which will wear down their defense. ND has come close to beaten Georgia twice once at their place

"Freak!! I hope we're not that bad!" Irish: I sure hope that ND doesn’t give up 17 points to a backup qb that has hardly played

"They don't think we matter" Irish:
Georgia fans are fairly dismissive about Notre Dame...they claim ND is slow and small; and can't match up with them. Notre Dame has to prove itself, that it belongs. Georgia doesn't have to do that. I'd say the pressure is on the Irish...due to the infrequency of opportunities to play for a championship. For Georgia....its just a matter of renewing its subscription.

Irish with the CFP scars:
I wish I had your optimism. Until we can actually win a game against a team like Georgia, I have a hard time seeing us winning.

Now. I don't feel this is one of those Georgia teams like we've seen in the past and they're obviously beatable. I kind of think we match up well against them. If the game is a low scoring affair, I give my node to us pulling it out, but we can't let them jump up by double digits early.

"It's us or Ryan Day, otherwise Kirby's got hotels on all properties from the jail square to the go square" Irish: This is a game ND would win 2 times out of 10 against Georgia, maybe 3. It has to be this game. Teams like OSU and ND are the only thing standing in the way of a complete monopoly.

Arkansas game feels crucial at this point

Obviously first of all we need to get back in the W column.

Second, given how highly road games are valued, it’s the exact type of game that really hurts to lose.

The way things are going, it’s looking like 8-10 will lock us in to the tournament. We need to get 6 more wins somewhere

Here are our best chances IMO:

@ARK
vs SC
vs LSU
vs Moo St
vs Mizzou
@ Texas
@ SC
vs Vandy

Of course, there are other games that we COULD win, and we probably will steal 1 or 2, but I think we need to go 5-3 or better in the games above.

Watching the Hoop Dawgs last night, it was amazing to me...

how absolutely interminable the last few minutes of the game seemed! I'll admit I don't watch very much college hoops these days (or NBA), but good lord, it was like the refs had to review every single play for something, anything, who knows what. I swear the game clock hit 4 minutes at 9:00, and the game didn't end until after 9:30. Just so many fouls, especially by Kentucky, even when the game was clearly out of reach. Way too many unnecessary timeouts, and as I said, way, way too many reviews. I'm obviously super glad we got the win, but man, that was almost painful to sit through!
