I checked one of the Vol boards and suddenly realized their fans have finally cycled through the five stages of grief that are noted by psychologists. Seriously—I've seen all these sentiments on Vol boards over the last few seasons.

  • DENIAL: "We're just a year away. Next season, Derek Dooley runs the table."
  • ANGER: "Butch and his brick by *&^% brick! I got a brick for him right here!"
  • BARGAINING: "Back up the money truck on Jon Gruden's driveway!"
  • DEPRESSION: "I don't know. I'm finding other interests in life. My beer bottle collection is really growing..."
  • ACCEPTANCE: "You know, we were in the game with Georgia State until the final whistle. Our boys gave a good effort, that's all I care about."

They lost at home to Pitt, but most of them think it was "not so bad." I almost liked them better when they were the most despicable fan base on the planet. Now they're just sort of pathetic. There needs to be a shelter or something for them.
