Big surprise... California fast food franchises uniformly raising prices...

in response to the $20/hr law.

What did they expect?
25% increase is huge. Full time = 40K per year w/o overtime. Can see it spreading throughout US.

Guessing it will price some folks out of business, especially the marginal FF places.

Wish I would have known ahead of time, would have told oldest daughter to go pound sand….. could have saved the roughly 140K for college.

Flipping burgers pays as much as teaching….and probably less dangerous.

I suspect this will simply usher in the robots. Already don’t need cashiers, cooks are next.

Probables is, in 20 years, we look back and say that it did not have to be this way. Nobody was trying to force these people out of a job, but the only way to keep costs at a reasonable level was to automate absolutely everything.

I saw a story on the $20 Big Mac. $20 for a fast food hamburger
I am going to have to congratulate Joe on being two steps ahead of me. I hate to give him credit for anything. I said in my parody of why I would vote for him that we could expect 30 dollar fast food meals in our future if he is reelected. I was wrong. We are going to see that before his first term is over.

The story I saw said this should cause a 20 CENTS per burger. Of course they will see a $5 increase and blame it on Newsom.
I concur with the highlighted portion of your response, cooperate greed is at a all time high. Regardless, Newsom needs to get his financial house in order. Cutting $ 40 billion or so when a legislature doesn't want to cut anything will be very difficult.

The Socialist Republic of California deserves it....
Yes they do. Even at 20 bucks an hour those fast food workers will still spit on their food, so we can take comfort in that. I was in Burger King getting lunch one day and I saw this kid slouching around behind the counter with a bunch of french fries stuck to his shoes, shirt tail out, looking pissed off at the world. I happened to need a clean up guy in my business, so I asked him “You want out of this dump?” And he said f*** yeah, so I hired him. He quit on the spot and I had him swinging a mop about an hour later. Bout a month after that I was back in Burger King for lunch and another guy asked me, “Hey, you the guy who hired the guy who jacked off in the milk shake machine?”

Well, we didn’t have a milk shake machine, so I felt pretty safe but the rest of the employees gave him hell over it.
