libs are the worst and the fact someone would give an excuse for last night is a fing travestyThis is a joke right? The Republicans always stand for those types of people at the State of the Union.
Tonight was an embarrassment. There is no spinning it
do you have a kamala harris pic by your bed?@Anthony Dasher @Radi Nabulsi can you guys please remove this political thread?
You didn't address a single point I made but instead argued against several strawman positions that I've never taken.I don't know how you define fraud.....don't really care what terminology we use.
What I do know is this - American taxpayers (this is your money and mine) are not on board with Congressionally approved spending bills filtering into a maze of NGO's wrought with inflated salaries and too many questionable expenditures and causes to count.
In the private world, leading investors to think they are investing in one thing and then spending it on something else is considered fraud. I don't care what you call it.
The process of finding waste should be applauded, even if you don't like the messenger or the way it is being communicated.
You are on the record on the belief that many good expenditures are going to be cut, and that will translate to reduced services. Can you also admit that a ton of bullshit is gonna be cut?
I would argue that the American people are 100% on board with some level of tradeoff here. And given the size of the federal government and the hundreds of thousands of tentacles in terms of the flow of cash out......the only way to diagnose what is and what isn't worthwhile is to begin cutting and then assessing the fallout - the American taxpayer will have the opportunity to self correct items that were cut that were worthwhile.
We don't have a choice. The deficits post-Covid are ridiculous. Instead of re-verting to a "pre-Covid" stance post-Covid, the Biden admin chose not to let a good crisis go to waste....and re-set the bar on spending.
Also - you are correct on the behavior of the Dems last night. Next level shameful, and did themselves no favors. Not only was Trump able to complete sentences (I'm sure you would now concede that whole narrative was absolutely ridiculous)......he laid out a plan and a positive vision for the country in all the categories that matter to most Americans......admittedly in a way designed to goad the Dems at times (and got the desired response).
It is crystal clear that no matter the message, no matter how it benefits Americans......if it is delivered by Trump, the left deems it bad. I have zero doubt they are truly rooting against American success if it means Trump success. If there was any doubt before last night....it has been fully exposed. The only plan is.....Trump bad.
So, any article you don't like is bullshit? Or did you look into the articles and then decide they are bullshit? Just curious. That is fine if you want to go dig up complete bullshit about cancer research will. Which is ridiculous. It is four weeks in. Let’s see if it ends up suffering at all. Which I doubt. The pure optics would keep that from ever happening and you know it.
Let’s put that aside. Defend the evils of not standing up for Laken Riley’s parents. Their kid is dead because of the left’s policies. Is it too much to stand for them. Jon Ossoff and Warnock didn’t stand for them. Or the 12 year old’s family whose daughter was raped and killed by undocumented Venezuelans.
Or here is one with no political ties. How about the school teacher who was released from Russian captivity. Couldn’t stand for him either.
How bout just not standing for the president when he entered. No matter what side of the fence you sit on. Now, I will give one back with the standing for the president tradition. Some are saying this wasn’t classified as a sotus. I would imagine standing would be the respectful thing to do, but who cares right?
I don’t care how you want to classify doge. They call it waste and fraud. Just call it waste. 74 percent of the country supports and overhaul to the U.S. government. He laid it out pretty well last night what is going to happen. Even with the tariffs. He admitted it may sting for a minute but not for long. It was actually a good speech by him. Really long, but well done for the most part. He explained his vision clearly. Let’s see if he can make it happen. Not sure he can do all of what he claims. If he gets half of it done, he will have had a successful term for sure.
Listening to the sec of treasury doing interviews last night was scary enough to want some change. He didn’t have to leave where he was. He isn’t even all that political. Just felt like he should offer his help.
I am going to wait until the end to see what doge ends up finding. I don’t think there is any other way to look at it. It is an audit like we haven’t seen before. There is no precedent. I would like them to slow down some, but I understand why they are working at breakneck speeds. They want these numbers out way before the midterms. I think that is reasonable to wait and see where we stand. I think we will find plenty of waste and fraud before it is all said and done. You didn't address a single point I made but instead argued against several strawman positions that I've never taken.
I've never suggested that there isn't waste in the federal budget or that the American people don't want to find and end that waste. In fact, I doubt you could find a single person in this country who would agree with that statement.
That in no way justify what DOGE is doing and how they are doing it. At the risk of repeating myself again, they have been proven to not understand the very basics of work they are attempting to do. I suspect part of that is the pace at which they insist on moving and part of that is an utter lack of concern regarding the impacts of their decisions.
That should not be applauded, that should be criticized and condemned.
If the administration wanted to undertake a serious cost cutting effort, it wouldn't be run this way, it wouldn't be headed by Elon Musk and his team of tech bros, and they wouldn't keep making stupid mistake like conflating what is actually an $8m contract with a nonexistent $8b contract. They wouldn't be firing and scrambling to rehire the nuclear scientists who manage our nuclear arsenal. They wouldn't be mass-firing probationary federal employees that the courts just instructed them to rehire. They wouldn't be shutting down foreign aid programs in a way that left tens of millions of dollars of food rotting on Houston docks. They wouldn't be taking credit for contracts that were cancelled as long as eighteen years ago.
Saying 100% of Americans "are onboard with some level of tradeoff here" is vague enough to be another strawman argument. That's like saying everyone supports cutting waste. But what about thoughts on DOGE specifically? This is from February 21st, and I'll wager you these numbers of gotten meaningfully worse since then.
"DOGE itself had just 42% of respondents seeing it favorably, while 38% had an unfavorable view, according to the survey. A separate question about Elon Musk personally showed that 42% of respondents saw him favorably while 52% had an unfavorable opinion."

If you are so concerned about post-covid deficits, why aren't you screaming about a GOP budget projected to add as much as $2.5t to the deficit over the next decade?
Between my first post, which I'm not sure you read, and this one, I think I've detailed my position as much as possible.
So, any article you don't like is bullshit? Or did you look into the articles and then decide they are bullshit? Just curious.
I didn't defend a single action of the Dems. I didn't watch the event. What I did do was condemn the hypocrisy of the outrage and political virtue signaling of the people on here about kids with cancer and then arguing, with supporting sources, that DOGE and the administration was doing real harm to medical research. But you decided that's all bullshit because you say it's bullshit. Can't argue with that line of reasoning.
As I said above, saying that 74% of the country supports a federal government overhaul (no shit, Sherlock) is not an argument in support of how DOGE is doing it. In fact, the polling for DOGE is bad and getting worse and it's no surprise as to why given the kinds of mistakes I detailed above.
One last point. You have painted yourself into a rhetorical corner here. You claim it's only four weeks in, which I agree, so no one could possibly know what the impacts are. Yet, DOGE is claiming $105b in found savings. We know at least some of the programs these reductions have impacted because of the staff reductions and DOGE reporting. So, $105b in savings, mass firings, defunded programs, but no one could possibly have any idea whether things like medical research are impacted or not? Perhaps that means that they are moving too quickly, or the $105b is a bullshit figure, or the likely correct answer that both are true.

It's not fear porn and you can't just "restore funding". Take the time to read what I shared, and you might understand why. Studies and research don't pause, it doesn't work that way. Scientists need jobs like the rest of us and move on, carefully timed studies miss critical deadlines and years of research immediately become invalid, the facility is repurposed or sold (look what government buildings have been put on the market in the last four weeks).I am going to wait until the end to see what doge ends up finding. The presidency is 45 days old. I don’t think you can say that this admin is going to cut funding to cancer research without coming back around to restore or even add to what is important. That is just more fear porn and loud yelling because they are targeting someone’s federal money. There is no way when all is said and done they will cut money to those programs because it is considered wasteful. But freezing the money is something that has to happen. Blame it on the past politicians spending like crazy. And good programs wouldn’t be suffering like this if the government hadn’t become obese. Put the blame where it belongs. Imo
This is not accurate. I use my bare hands and more of a downward motion to the left…

and to add insult to their ridiculous Russia hoax... couldn't even stand when Trump recognized the American who returned home from Russian captivity and his 95 year old mom. Couldn't stand when he announced the terrorist perpetrator that killed 13 Americans was on his way to US to face charges. They thought they had their "little" disruptions w/their silly cards all worked out. Backfired again. They are evil. Proven last night.FREAKSHOWS
What a disastrous display of the DEM culture. They can’t even stand for the people Trump sited..instead acting like school children 😤with their little 3rd grade paddles😂😂😂
If they can’t stand for those people cited in that balcony, how can those POS Dem leaders stand for any other everyday American? They can’t, and it was on full display tonite! Showed again just how out of tune they are with American culture…zero humanity …what a total shame and embarrassment!
The infectious disease of AOC and the rest of the “Squad”, has spread throughout their whole pathetic party ….total whackos! All they can do is whine, cry, bitch, and try to sabotage.
They have NOTHING to tell, ZERO vision, ZERO accomplishments, wearing pink dresses after EVERYONE of them defended men in women sports earlier in the day….what a bunch of LOSERS!
On full display for everyone to see again tonite…why so many left that out of touch whacko party last Nov
Unfortunately that’s what is needed. I hate it for people, but the chainsaw had to come swinging one day. The longer we go, the worse it would get. I think he is moving too fast as well, but it isn’t hard to rehire good people for six figure government jobs brother. My daughter just went to apply for a cs job at uline. Not even a government job. That's the entire point. There is no wait to see here. People are losing their jobs and moving on, not sitting around waiting to see if Elon will remove his own head from his backside long enough to stop swinging a chainsaw around like an idiot and actually take the time to understand the impact of his decisions.
What's concerning is that Elon and DOGE make the same excuses you are making, and like you they don't understand how many/most of the impacted programs actually work. What's worse, its clear Elon doesn't care. But a lot of Americans do care and when it comes to things as important as complex programs like medical research, ready/fire/aim is an irresponsible and destructive approach.

Don't listen to me, listen to the market.....aka those investing billions of dollars based on what they believe to be the case. The bond market specifically believes that DOGE is going to have a real impact. According to bond experts, the single biggest reason that US Treasury yields have come down is the belief that we are on our way to decreasing the deficit...specifically because of the efforts of DOGE. The thinner the deficit, the more credit-worthy the US becomes, making it less risky and bringing required investor yields down. You didn't address a single point I made but instead argued against several strawman positions that I've never taken.

No they don't. Where do you get that? The satire that is Fox?Yeah I guess so. What gets me is they want the minority to rule the majority. That has never worked in any society that I know of unless you are Communists and you have to have the military backing you

I could do without the chainsaws and the rhetoric, but I do like the transparency of it all. And I sure as hell trust proven business leaders to do this job more than a government funded "inspector general" or anything else that is politcal.
Elon is just a pretty thing to look at in the 3 card monte that is getting a pipeline in Ukraine built, after we give our alli's land away. Because he is. He hired Rex Tillerson to do it, he refused, so they got his ass elected again and told him he needed to push it through to justify his Rosneft deal that got him elected the first time. How do you know?
It is both to an extent.....but some of the most respected bond guys who have warned about fiscal deficits and rising yields - guys like Jeff Gundlach, believe that the DOGE savings will be meaningful, and that is a big reason yields have fallen.Come on, Low. Don't try to bullshit a bullshitter.
I think it's fair to say that the flight to safety out of equities and into treasuries is having a meaningful impact on the bond rally. This is often caused by geopolitical tensions and fears of an economic slowdown, both current conditions we can directly point to DJT for causing.
I'm sincerely interested in ready a few articles attributing the current bond rally to DOGE as I can't find any. Please share when you have time.It is both to an extent.....but some of the most respected bond guys who have warned about fiscal deficits and rising yields - guys like Jeff Gundlach, believe that the DOGE savings will be meaningful, and that is a big reason yields have fallen.
To your point, I believe a lot of the tarriff noise is intentional.....specifically to get money moving into safety. Trump knows that it is exponentially better for the long-term and broad economy for long rates to come down, even at the expense of the short-term equity markets. He can't directly affect Fed policy. But he can rattle markets.
Bessent specifically mentioned their focus on the 10 year a few weeks ago. And Trump let slip unscripted last night the "beautiful move lower" in long rates.
10 year yields moving to 3.5% would have a more positive and meaningful effect on small business, housing, etc.....than anything else that could be done.
Tariff uncertainty = lower rates
Soft payroll data due to fed layoffs = lower rates
DOGE deficit savings = lower rates.
The good news if you hate tariffs. When all said and done the tariff fears are overdone. A lot of it is talk....both for negotiating trade deals, and less publicized, a backdoor way to affect yields on the 10 year.
Unless the “peace deal” has been put in writing and agreed to - let me know & not speculate.Because he is. He hired Rex Tillerson to do it, he refused, so they got his ass elected again and told him he needed to push it through to justify his Rosneft deal that got him elected the first time.
Saw it on a CNBC interview with Gundlach last week. Also with Zervos yesterday.I'm sincerely interested in ready a few articles attributing the current bond rally to DOGE as I can't find any. Please share when you have time.
they don't like blacks....and that is the truthBut that confirms it. They can’t even stand to honor a kid with brain cancer?
Unreal.
I see your point. I do. But I don’t believe they cut nearly enough. And that is the problem. We don’t need a pin prick here. Needs to be a giant hole punched into government spending. I do believe it could have been done better. That is obvious. Ironically more efficiently. I don’t blame trump for having someone he trusts to head this up. Too important not to have someone who will report directly to him and be straight. But it's not what is needed. That's just not true.
I will prove it. Here's an alternative:
DOGE hire a team of crack forensic accountants and pairs them with people with real operational experience. Each agency target gets a team that includes people with experience in the appropriate subject matter (foreign aid, science and medicine, defense, domestic social programs and whatever else is appropriate).
They have ninety days to report back. Thirty days to gather findings, thirty days to analyze those findings and thirty days to develop a plan of attack for cutting costs and improving efficiencies. This provides the time to consider the implications of what they are proposing and the people with the experience and knowledge to make those judgments.
All final reports are presented to Trump and his team by May 1st and then posted to a website in their entirety to ensure transparency. Trump takes another thirty days to provide final feedback and marching orders. That gets us to June 1st. We aren't even six months into a four-year term or still nineteen months before the Midterms.
No surprises, no mistakes, no scrambling to rehire people who were wrongly fired. Still incredibly fast moving and action oriented, driving meaningful results more likely to have a lasting impact with a minimum of negative consequences.
So why not?
