You didn't address a single point I made but instead argued against several strawman positions that I've never taken.
I've never suggested that there isn't waste in the federal budget or that the American people don't want to find and end that waste. In fact, I doubt you could find a single person in this country who would agree with that statement.
That in no way justifies what DOGE is doing and how they are doing it. At the risk of repeating myself again, they have been proven to not understand the very basics of work they are attempting to do. I suspect part of that is the pace at which they insist on moving and part of that is an utter lack of concern regarding the impacts of their decisions.

If the administration wanted to undertake a serious cost cutting effort, it wouldn't be run this way, it wouldn't be headed by Elon Musk and his team of tech bros, and they wouldn't keep making stupid mistake like conflating what is actually an $8m contract with a nonexistent $8b contract. They wouldn't be firing and scrambling to rehire the nuclear scientists who manage our nuclear arsenal. They wouldn't be mass-firing probationary federal employees that the courts just instructed them to rehire. They wouldn't be shutting down foreign aid programs in a way that left tens of millions of dollars of food rotting on Houston docks. They wouldn't be taking credit for contracts that were cancelled as long as eighteen years ago.
Saying 100% of Americans "are onboard with some level of tradeoff here" is vague enough to be another strawman argument. That's like saying everyone supports cutting waste. But what about thoughts on DOGE specifically? This is from February 21st, and I'll wager you these numbers have gotten meaningfully worse since then.
"DOGE itself had just 42% of respondents seeing it favorably, while 38% had an unfavorable view, according to the survey. A separate question about Elon Musk personally showed that 42% of respondents saw him favorably while 52% had an unfavorable opinion."

If you are so concerned about post-covid deficits, why aren't you screaming about a GOP budget projected to add as much as $2.5t to the deficit over the next decade?

Yet, DOGE is claiming $105b in found savings. We know at least some of the programs these reductions have impacted because of the staff reductions and DOGE reporting. So, $105b in savings, mass firings, defunded programs, but no one could possibly have any idea whether things like medical research are impacted or not? Perhaps that means that they are moving too quickly, or the $105b is a bullshit figure, or the likely correct answer that both are true.

I am going to wait until the end to see what doge ends up finding. I don’t think there is any other way to look at it. It is an audit like we haven’t seen before. There is no precedent. The presidency is 45 days old. I don’t think you can say that this admin is going to cut funding to cancer research without coming back around to restore or even add to what is important. That is just more fear porn and loud yelling because they are targeting someone’s federal money. There is no way when all is said and done they will cut money to those programs because it is considered wasteful. But freezing the money is something that has to happen. Blame it on the past politicians spending like crazy. And good programs wouldn’t be suffering like this if the government hadn’t become obese. Put the blame where it belongs. Imo

It's not fear porn and you can't just "restore funding". Take the time to read what I shared, and you might understand why. Studies and research don't pause, it doesn't work that way. Scientists need jobs like the rest of us and move on, carefully timed studies miss critical deadlines and years of research immediately become invalid, the facility is repurposed or sold (look what government buildings have been put on the market in the last four weeks).

I could do without the chainsaws and the rhetoric, but I do like the transparency of it all. And I sure as hell trust proven business leaders to do this job more than a government funded "inspector general" or anything else that is politcal.
But it's not what is needed. That's just not true.
I will prove it. Here's an alternative:
DOGE hire a team of crack forensic accountants and pairs them with people with real operational experience. Each agency target gets a team that includes people with experience in the appropriate subject matter (foreign aid, science and medicine, defense, domestic social programs and whatever else is appropriate).
They have ninety days to report back. Thirty days to gather findings, thirty days to analyze those findings and thirty days to develop a plan of attack for cutting costs and improving efficiencies. This provides the time to consider the implications of what they are proposing and the people with the experience and knowledge to make those judgments.
All final reports are presented to Trump and his team by May 1st and then posted to a website in their entirety to ensure transparency. Trump takes another thirty days to provide final feedback and marching orders. That gets us to June 1st. We aren't even six months into a four-year term or still nineteen months before the Midterms.
No surprises, no mistakes, no scrambling to rehire people who were wrongly fired. Still incredibly fast moving and action oriented, driving meaningful results more likely to have a lasting impact with a minimum of negative consequences.
So why not?

I think it's fair to say that the flight to safety out of equities and into treasuries is having a meaningful impact on the bond rally. This is often caused by geopolitical tensions and fears of an economic slowdown, both current conditions we can directly point to DJT for causing.

Because he is. He hired Rex Tillerson to do it, he refused, so they got his ass elected again and told him he needed to push it through to justify his Rosneft deal that got him elected the first time.
It is both to an extent.....but some of the most respected bond guys who have warned about fiscal deficits and rising yields - guys like Jeff Gundlach, believe that the DOGE savings will be meaningful, and that is a big reason yields have fallen.
To your point, I believe a lot of the tarriff noise is intentional.....specifically to get money moving into safety. Trump knows that it is exponentially better for the long-term and broad economy for long rates to come down, even at the expense of the short-term equity markets. He can't directly affect Fed policy. But he can rattle markets.
Bessent specifically mentioned their focus on the 10 year a few weeks ago. And Trump let slip unscripted last night the "beautiful move lower" in long rates.
10 year yields moving to 3.5% would have a more positive and meaningful effect on small business, housing, etc.....than anything else that could be done.
Tariff uncertainty = lower rates
Soft payroll data due to fed layoffs = lower rates
DOGE deficit savings = lower rates.
The good news if you hate tariffs. When all said and done the tariff fears are overdone. A lot of it is talk....both for negotiating trade deals, and less publicized, a backdoor way to affect yields on the 10 year.
I'm sincerely interested in ready a few articles attributing the current bond rally to DOGE as I can't find any. Please share when you have time.
