I agree with you and @-lowcountrydawg that our debt levels are not sustainable. So we are all in agreement. I’ll even concede that DOGE will drive some savings, although I obviously have severe misgivings about the damage that will be done that could be avoided.I see your point. I do. But I don’t believe they cut nearly enough. And that is the problem. We don’t need a pin prick here. Needs to be a giant hole punched into government spending. I do believe it could have been done better. That is obvious. Ironically more efficiently. I don’t blame trump for having someone he trusts to head this up. Too important not to have someone who will report directly to him and be straight.
The tax “cuts” you mention are really just an extension of what is in place. Do you really think an increase over and above what we have now is the right thing given the crippling inflation already in place and your opinion that the economy is teetering?I agree with you and @-lowcountrydawg that our debt levels are not sustainable. But neither of you have even touched one very important point that I keep bringing up. If Trump and the GOP were serious about the deficit, why did they just pass a budget projected to add as much as $2.5t to the national debt over the next decade? If we are going to gut Medicaid, of which about 25% of the funds go to cover children (just to bring my argument in this thread full circle), why don’t we have a budget that uses the $2t in spend reduction to reduce instead of adding to the deficit? Do we really need to reduce taxes further for the people in this country who have already concentrated the national wealth to a degree we haven’t seen since the Gilded Age?
It makes all of the talk of DOGE cost cutting feel like political theatre of the worst kind.
This has been explained. How his economic plan would work. I am one not smart enough to go back thru it again, but a couple of links out there on the first page lay it out much better than i ever could.I agree with you and @-lowcountrydawg that our debt levels are not sustainable. He has the House and the Senate in his pocket. Why not start the process by pushing through legislation that backstops what he wants to do?This has been explained. How his economic plan would work. I do agree that the early promises by Trump and Elon on doge findings will likely come back to haunt them. I think they are over extending themselves. Especially when if they find half as much that would be incredible. I guess you set your goals as high as you can. Strive for excellence is the saying. Or perfection. What comes from these aspirations is usually pretty damn good.
trump is saying the right things. And if the Dems don’t get on board with this philosophy they are going to be lost for a long time. Of all people, Stephen a has become a hugely popular Democrat. Why? Because he isn’t afraid to call out his own party for their idiocy. And give Trump some credit. He is a moderate. No one thought Trump would ever be president.
He laid it out last night. There was total transparency. It was a breath of fresh air. To actually have a clue of what as a country we are trying to accomplish
I think it is safe to say there is a more efficient way to do this. That being said, it has no real precedent. Flying blind. It is easy to be an arm chair qb. I get your point for sure.He has the House and the Senate in his pocket. Why not start the process by pushing through legislation that backstops what he wants to do?
The inefficiencies of blowing it up this way should be apparent by now. It’s all bogged down in court, because it is being done in a way that has little support in the law.
You must have not been paying attention since “You lie!”This is a joke right? The Republicans always stand for those types of people at the State of the Union.
Tonight was an embarrassment. There is no spinning it
I knew it before I askedI do actually
