Yep - the point of flattening the curve was to prevent over-burdening of hospitals and healthcare providers - not to make cases plunge to zero. In fact if you go back and look at what epidemiologists have said, the point of flattening the curve was not to reduce cases, but to spread them out so that healthcare systems didn't get overwhelmed and we had the time to ramp up supply production to meet additional spikes in cases.
That seems to have been quickly forgotten.
Let's kill everybody in 6 months instead of 12-18. Don't leave anyone lying around for the flu season when it starts up again in October because Covid got them already.
The governments and health systems have now had 4 months to take a look at this and they know who is at risk. Lay in safeguards to protect the retirees first... They aren't working and if you cut their infection and hospitalization rates down, everyone else becomes manageable. The younger ones with underlying conditions will need to take appropriate measures but they aren't the biggest share of the problem.
Georgia Death list shows count of 855
Of that number 281 are under the age of 67 so 33%
Of that 33 Percent, 13 were confirmed to have No previous underlying conditions
81 were listed as Unknown but go figure given what we know about comorbidities.
Dougherty County - 110 Dead, Average Age 71. Everyone 65 and under (total 39) had an underlying condition or was listed as Unknown. Average age of those over 65 was 79 so pretty much in line with average life expectancy as a whole.
We've got 330 Million people in the country. This gets real simple.
Flattening was just to buy time. It's not viable long term and the virus is not going away.
If you're old, stay inside, wash your hands and don't touch your face.
If you have an underlying, stay inside. wash your hands, and don't touch your face
If you're poor and one of the above, and live in a higher density urban area and rely on public transportation you're pretty much SOL but stay inside if you can, wash your hands, and don't touch your face. That's what got NYC. Put everyone that rides Marta in a Hazmat Suit and they might stand a chance.
