Bush backed away from his deadlines to get out of Iraq repeatedly. A standing army in Iraq would mean endless deadly attacks that would still be killing thousands of Americans. War is not perfect, but I far prefer Obama's results in Iraq to Bush's. More to the point, Bush opened Pandora's box and no POTUS will be able to make it right.

It came from an unnamed source who a writer claims is in the agency, Who knows if it's true, these things take years to sort through sometimes.
We all know We're the world's biggest weapons dealer. What made Iran Contra the worst of the worst is it had running hard drugs into this country while the official line was ''just say no'', selling weapons to Iran at a time they were our enemies and using the gains to illegally supply some really unsavory people who killed most anybody who spoke up, priest, farmers, lawyers, you name it, they killed them.

The only 2 known facts from that link are..
We did supply small arms to ''Arab Spring'' rebels.
We did have CIA and special forces desperately trying to round up every loose surface to air missile in the contested areas. This was a TOP priority. Everybody, from State to The CIA and The Pentagon agreed having stingers loose to target Commercial aircraft would be too dangerous to NOT make every effort to reel them in. Third party boots on the ground were paid to help in the effort. It wouldn't be at all surprising if Benghazi was a clearing house for the effort. I seem to recall small weapons were exchanged for stingers as well, which would have tied everything together.
The reeling in of stingers would have been a very legitimate operation, but one in need of secrecy.

Not sure who they would want to avoid. They were relying on a local militia who ultimately helped take pics of the consulate for the attackers and then ran So the locals knew they were there.. If they wanted to not draw attention why have Stevens there at all?

I could maybe buy they would rely on the CIA security officers at the Annex who were only a few miles away but they were given an stand down order and delayed for a 1/2 hr. They ultimately went anyway. I think they were naive in thinking the local militia would actually stand and fight which they didnt.

Iran contra was somewhat complex. and I don't remember enough to comment. Even the Israelis were involved to give weapons to the iranians in exchange for hostages.
As for Fast and Furious, it was a pretty big deal in my opinion., We ended up giving thousands of weapons to the Mexican mafia or drug cartels thinking we could track them but they never tracked them. Holder ended up caught in a lie and was held in contempt of congress which had the effect of giving him a parking ticket. Obam got him out of his mess by claiming executive privilege. Several border agents were killed by these guns and I am sure hundreds of Mexicans as well.

I was happy with Iran contra. And unsurprised at Benghazi. Outraged is not my feeling. Rationale is simple. Reagan and his underlings were on our side. Protecting America. Doing what they needed to do to make our people safe. They had taken the side of the American citizen. Clinton was doing what she did to protect her azz and that of her boss. Simply because they had taken the side of protecting Muslim extremist's actions at the expense of American interests. And it blew in their face. Spare me the hyperbole, when it comes to my kids and my own last years on this planet I AM FOR US and the USA! Others have chosen their gang over the people here and their children/families. Since I am an independent I don't have the gang affiliation burden that most have. I can be honest. And carry a do the right thing as far as our best interest attitude.

I want my country to be safe, I want our culture to endure, I want my children to have the same advantages and opportunities I have had. I love what I have had. Which includes the chance to serve in the US military and see how terrible people in other parts of the world live. You probably have not therefore you are naive. You want Hillary to endure, you want a political party to endure. I sense anger and a desire for vengeance against the people who have made something of themselves on the part of leftists here. ''Happy with Iran Contra'', that is as clear an indication of a lack of morality intellectual honesty as I can think of. I can't speak for the rest of the country but we do not need a bull dyke in the Whitehouse that really has a difficult time being honest. Carter pointed to last week's rescue operation with Kurdish forces in northern Iraq to free hostages held by ISIS.

Carter and Pentagon officials initially refused to characterize the rescue operation as U.S. boots on the ground. However, Carter said last week that the military expects "more raids of this kind" and that the rescue mission "represents a continuation of our advise and assist mission."

This may mean some American soldiers "will be in harm's way, no question about it," Carter said last week.

After months of denying that U.S. troops would be in any combat role in Iraq, Carter late last week in a response to a question posed by NBC News, also acknowledged that the situation U.S. soldiers found themselves in during the raid in Hawija was combat.

"This is combat and things are complicated," Carter said.

During Tuesday's Senate hearing, Carter said Wheeler "was killed in combat."

White House deputy press secretary Eric Schultz on Tuesday said the administration has "no intention of long term ground combat". He added that U.S. forces will continue to robustly train, advise and assist.

A feisty Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said on Tuesday in the Senate Armed Services committee hearing that the U.S. effort in Syria is a "half-assed strategy at best," and said that the U.S. is not doing a "damn thing" to bring down Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

Carter on Tuesday pushed back against that notion.

Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged that the "balance of forces" has tilted in Assad's favor.

If We'd left a large enough force in Iraq to make a difference We'd have thousands more dead American soldiers and nothing would have improved. Besides, The Iraqi government ordered us out.
If You think occupying Iraq would ever be like occupying Germany or Japan, You couldn't be more wrong.
I wouldn't listen to Graham or McCain in this matter, we'd be in a huge land war with Iran if they had their way.

I can't speak for the rest of the country but we do not need a bull dyke in the Whitehouse that really has a difficult time being honest. That plus having to hear about Bill running around with all of his hoors for 4 years makes me sick to my stomach. I have got to believe that this country has not sunk to a level that it's citizens believe that is our best option.

I keep keeping it as close to real as possible. The lie about sniper fire is a far cry from the worst thing a presidential candidate has ever said, or more importantly, done. It's nowhere near as bad as many things done by a POTUS either.
It's this pretense that she is somehow worse than so many other lying politicians I object to.
