If this happens, it will happen fairly quickly. The attempt to circle the wagons is seemingly stalling, and for good reason. Nate Silver is absolutely right when he says after watching the debate, putting that man in office for another four years is the biggest ask in political history. It is basically asking the electorate not to believe their lying eyes.

As this week rolls on and folks have discussions over 4th of July, it will become clearer and clearer that this is an impossible ask for donors as well. A total waste of money. And then the polls will confirm what is already in everyone's heads. The 40%+- that will remain for Biden would be there no matter what. That is truly the lowest bar. And he will find it.

At that point, it is true that yes, this is technically up to Biden.....but the prospect of stubbornly remaining in the race if guys like Schumer and Pelosi abandon him? No way. He will "voluntarily" bow out, but not truly by choice.

Which brings us to who replaces him? The truth is that every democrat would rightly prefer Whitmer, maybe Newsom. But the political reality within their party of jumping the sitting VP, who is a woman and black would make anyone else's candidacy a circus of political in-fighting. Even if you believe that a straight up election in a vaccum between Trump and Whitmer yields a Whitmer victory......it won't with all the noise and in-fighting associated with Kamala being passed over. And you'd be left not only with a loss to Trump, but would-be potential winning future candidates that are now wounded.

Trump v Harris 2024.

Kamala's Ace In The Hole? $91 Million Biden-Harris Campaign Fund Looms Large

As the Biden presidency teeters in the wake of last week's disastrous debate performance that left no doubt about his sharp mental decline, discussion of Vice President Kamala Harris's prospects for becoming the party's new 2024 standard-bearer tend to focus on her (lack of) electability and Democrats' reluctance to pass over a black woman who holds the title that makes her a natural successor.
Little attention has been paid to what might be Kamala's greatest asset: her name on the $91.2 million Biden-Harris campaign account. Per federal election rules, in the event Biden drops out, that account can't simply be handed over to whomever the party eventually nominates for president -- unless it's Harris.

CNN poll has trump up 6 on Biden now. Harris only trails Trump by 2. It’s happening.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all, already pulling the race card thingy……veiled, but she’s doing it.

I hope they believe that because all the other polls show her doing worse than Biden. Once people start hearing her talk on a regular basis again it will get worse and Trump will end up with 30% or more of the black male vote.

"What can be, unburdened from what has been." Kamala Harris, so profound.

I would say it's at least 50/50 that it happens.

He can pardon him out the door.
There is potential for more charges. Don’t think he can pardon him for something that hasn’t been charged but I may be wrong.
But, his brother and others will need pardons as well. His whole family are grifters and have potential charges in their future.

I believe it more after today’s WH briefing with KJP. The media that had turned a blind eye has now awaken and will not let this rest. The WH has no answers for how Biden will be mentally or physically for a second term.

Don't see that happening. A lot of high powered players in the DNC detest Harris. If you are a Trump fan, that would be the best possible scenario for the upcoming election.
It is tricky for Trump.

He would have to be careful not to bully her in a debate or talk down too much to her

Biden such a train wreck post Thursday Trump probably has in the bag now but he could screw it up with Harris regardless of how unpopular she is now

If she is nominee some voters all of a sudden give her a second look as lots who support Trump today are really opposing Biden

Trump still the favorite but not as much as today

I don't see any possible way they replace Biden, with anyone but Harris.

If they pass over Harris, there is going to be major problems.

The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner, with their own DEI mess.

They can keep a clearly impaired Biden.
Replace him with an unpopular Harris
Or go with someone else and alienate a major part of their voting base.

They made their bed.

This might be the first time anyone has used “Trump” and “careful” in the same sentence.

Fact is, if he had been careful in the debate, the election would already be won. He couldn’t resist piling on and grossly exaggerating everything while Biden was setting himself on fire. If he had been careful he would’ve watched Biden burn and swung a lot more votes.

The man can’t help himself.

You are not wrong.

He could have stepped back, turned positive and let the train wreck happen around him and be home free. But he couldn't help himself.

I still think he wins either way but at this point any new variable introduced adds risk and he like Biden have the unique ability to grab defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Seems like yesterday that potential Democratic voters didn't even support Harris.

Oh the irony of anyone complaining about her not getting the 2024 nomination much less winning the office.

Trump had made headway with the black vote. I suspect Harris will reverse that trend. It will also be interesting to see if the youth vote supports Harris. She will be a tougher candidate than you think.

The African American trump vote is almost all male. I’m honestly not sure if Kamala doesn’t send more of that vote to Trump. Especially when folks start to really tune into the most annoying voice / messaging of all time.

I think she does initially add some energy to the Democratic Campaign but then we realize she speaks in word salad, is the Boarder Zsar who doesn't go to the boarder and many of her staff quit within months after working with her. I think she will poll close to 50/50 initially and then be down 3% or so by mid September. She, like Hillary is not likeable and it will show. More attractive than Hillary but not as smart...........

Go ahead Dems....run Kamala. I'm all for it.

The Republicans will have a field day with her poll numbers, numerous failures, gaffes, and word salads.

Just saw on X that someone refers to her as Giggles McSucksalot.

Thoughts?
