The Government is a Shit Show

Stick with the Karen, trans, gender stuff. That’s your sweet spot. No idea what any of that has to do with my post.

I was talking about the results that Trump has produced so far. It’s amazing to watch the absurd explanations on here. Just explaining away ever stupid decision, every shitty result.

The concensus amongst Maga guys is that his horrible results are … what?

He’s an idiot. We are screwed.
As I recall Biden f’ed it up for 4 years. Trump has been there a little over 2 months. All you focus on is the negative. Tariffs have helped in various circumstances just not the ones you care about.

In other breaking news, water is wet.
Our government has been a shit show for decades.
I’m a free trade guy myself, and generally against tariffs, but other countries sure as hell put them on us, and our domestic manufacturing base has been dwindling for a long time.
There was a time up until about thirty years ago when most of our clothing was made here in the U.S. This clothing was produced
by a lot those uneducated hillbillies that the elites positively abhor in most any town in the rural south with a population of at least 900-1000.
My father was in this business. He would own and operate one or two of those small manufacturing plants at any one time. I worked in them, too, boxing up and shipping garments, loading and unloading trucks, hauling those garments to various places in Florida, Alabama, SC, NC.
Then came NAFTA, and the domestic manufacturing of clothing all but vanished. I watched him hang on as long as he could, seriously considering moving us all to the Dominican effing Republic, where a lot of that manufacturing went, until it simply became unsustainable. Fortunately, one of the few places clothing is still made here is in prisons by prisoners, and my father was able to secure a position with the state of Georgia to oversee that operation.
Tariffs are something neither of us wants to see, but maybe the only solution to restoring our manufacturing base.
When it’s all gone, when we don’t make anything here anymore, when everything is imported, other governments will have our shit show government, and by extension, me and you, by the short and curlies.
Nice post….posted on here before, my wife works for a major retailer here in the US. They are also overseas.

Most of their stuff comes from China. It all has more than a few concerned (tariffs). I’m pretty sure not too many would want to sit in a factory here and do what the folks in China are doing…and what about the interim (if no supplier).

I believe in free trade also, unsure of this broad brush stuff on all items - then you have the reciprocal stuff starting next month. Hopefully, all of this is to get countries to the table and compromises are made.

Tariffs are like a double edged sword. Not a fan of this tit for tat stuff either, it doesn’t help. But maybe all of the back & forth is part of it all.

One thing is for sure, it does all indeed go back decades ago. Trump is faced with a lot of issues, but if you don’t try, nothing changes.

I’m a libertarian by nature, registered as an independent. Voting libertarian, unfortunately, elects Democrats, who seem much more likely to destroy the republic than Republicans, so I vote almost exclusively Republican. I’ve voted for a Democrat sheriff and a Democrat coroner and a Democrat water board representative in the last 20 years, and that’s it. BibbCo has since done away with partisan elections for a lot of those positions.
I part with Republicans on things like gay marriage. Have been in favor of allowing it for a long time. Gay citizens minding their own business have a right to be just as damn miserable as everyone else that’s married (I’m divorced). That doesn’t affect me.
Transvestites do not have a right to prance around in front of other people’s kindergarteners in their negliges with their junk hanging out for some drag queen story hour. That affects my fellow citizens and is obscene. I’m quite surprised to have not yet read a story about a group of dads taking one of those transvestites to the woods and beating it (don’t want to offend the pronoun police!) until it understands that’s simply not acceptable.
I part with Republicans on abortion in the first trimester. The problem with that debate has always been this:
Reasonable people can agree that there is an enormous chasm of difference between so-called “partial birth abortion” and so-called “ morning after pill.”
The problem is, unreasonable zealots on BOTH sides of that argument will swear to you that there is absolutely no difference between those two things. That’s irrational.
I am very much in favor of
1. Article V convention.
2. Repealing the 17th amendment.

By the way, I grew up in Cedar Grove. It’s on the way from you to Soperton. My mom and dad still live there and have been to the Huddle House over there enough to be asked. “Your usual?” as soon as they sit down.
I went to WL. Y’all always beat us mercilessly, using those incredibly athletic Northcutt kids that y’all grow over there.
Interesting fact: I looked it up. The highest concentration on the planet for the last name Mullis is in Dodge County Georgia. Second is Lauren’s County.

Bob’s Candy and the tire plants and other industries in Albany built many a house and sent kids to college.
The Offshoring cycle killed Albany.

HA!….probably because everyone is related down there (Mullis).

Grew up in Vidalia and Eastman, moved away when I turned 18 (long ago). Been to Soperton many times as a kid, remember them always having good track teams. Live in-the Midwest now.

Not hung up on one party or the other, will vote for whoever makes my family & life better. But it’s been Republican lately. Like most, safety and my wallet are the most important driving forces. More of a moderate.

Agree on the gay thingy, as long as it’s not being put in my face….it doesn’t affect me, what anyone does behind closed doors is there business. Homosexuality has been around since before time.

Wait, why do you want to repeal the 17th, of all amendments? You want to go back to the state legislature appointing senators? What does that accomplish?

Not trying to pick a fight, here, just want to understand this position.

Understand, but at this point in my life…it certainly wouldn’t be in our best interest for it to happen to her/us.

There is nothing to be gained (US).

I’m not triggered. And I never voted for Biden.

Trump is an egomaniac idiot. So far the results prove that out. Keep on explaining away the results though.

Yep, but he’s light years better than a non compos mentos walking zombie being managed by Deep State “Handlers” to milk the tit of government to suckle illegitimate NGOs and thereby build generational wealth for Democrat minions all at the cost of hardworking everyday Americans.

Buying in to the Trump is an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing agenda is fine, just get us all a choice that’s not far worse than he is, because at this point, he is the least worse option to the perfidious two time assassination attempting Ancient Roman Senators in Congress.

And the 3rd generation of the McCormick family helped with the demise of Bob's Candy. Liberal silver spoon elites in over their heads.

No fight is felt to have been picked at all, brother,
Before the 17th, our state legislatures picked our Senators. My state representative is at arm’s length. I understand the counter-argument in favor of the 17th “welll, then the seat just goes to the highest bidder!”
Good. The stinking rich willing to serve and try to do the best for their best for the American people is better than the current situation, which is the DNC pumping money into Georgia to elect Warlock and Assoff. My U.S. representative, after I got ‘mandered into his district, is Sanford Bishop.
That’s my representation in Washington. Warlock, Assoff, and Sanford Bishop,
Without the 17th, if I see Warlock or Assoff voting like I don’t want them to vote, I call upin my state rep and say “hey, this person ain’t voting my interests. Y’all snatch his ass back home and put somebody else in there.”
Now, with the 17th, is when the seat actually does go to the highest bidder- namely the DNC and George Soros.
There are a lot of us patriots in favor repealing the 17th. We have a big tent. Join us and help us take back at least some say in how our masters in Washington rule over us.

Essentially this is a power to the people argument. The 17th amendment centralizes power. This is our country, not Washington’s. I would like a say in how it’s governed. I have none at this time, but without the 17th, I at least have a shot.
There is no better example than our current POTUS of someone who is immune to being bought off by special interests. There is no better example than our last POTUS, the Big Guy, of someone that can be bought off by special interests. I know, different branch of government, but are you happy with how Assoff and Warlock vote? If so, fine, God bless you, fellow American.
If not, without the 17th, at least you have a shot at correcting what you don’t want for YOUR country. Not Assoff’s. Not Warlock’s. Yours.
Apologies, I’ve rambled. The decentralization of authority away from Washington is absolutely a good idea. Repelling the 17th is a part of that.

Can anyone give an intelligent explanation for what we are seeing? Crashing the stock market and driving us into a recession, so interest rates drop - seriously.
Trump is getting his revenge. He wants to destroy our democracy and government as we know it. He wants to be like Putin. Tariffs against our allies and best trading partners; cutting off all military support and all intelligence to our ally, Ukraine; turning a blind eye to inflation and the spooked stock market; and he has appointed the most incompetent and inexperienced cabinet in history. All that and then he turns Elon Musk with his young hatchet men loose to gut all government services (nuclear energy experts, bird flu experts with the CDC, and gutting our national parks services). We voted for it so we are to blame.

I appreciate you taking the time to write out your thoughts on the 17th Amendment. I must admit that I'm new to this argument and still trying to get my head around it.

It does strike me that much of your discussion reflects the same goals that led to adoption of the 17th Amendment. It was supposed to take power away from the centralized government and give it back to the people. Clearly, that hasn't happened. I don't know that changing it back will fix that, either.

That is indeed a conundrum, which brings me back to an article V convention. These career grifters certainly aren’t going to ever vote to term-limit themselves, but we, the people, have at least a puncher’s chance to do just that through an article V convention.
You’re right, the 17th has not at all increased my voice in Washington.
