Nobody would take me for a Trump fan. I don't care at all for his style but there are pieces of his platform that are way overdue. Making the EU fund their own security is one of those things. WWII ended almost 80 years ago. The Soviet Union collapsed. The EU has a population of 450M people and combined economic output of around $29T. Russia has 140M people and GNP of 6T. It's just a matter of making the EU wake up and fend for themselves. Why would we die for people that won't take their own defense seriously? I say this having seen it first hand a soldier when there was a wall with East Germans and Russians on the other side. Whatever threat Putin may be to his neighbors, he's shadow of what they were back in the 70's and 80's with conventional arms. His biggest stick is a lot of bluster about using nukes and he has a lot of those.
As far as the Ukraine goes, there are a lot of people that say support the Ukraine but I don't think you'll find many that would support putting US boots on the ground there. If NATO doesn't escalate with bodies, then it doesn't matter how many bombs and bullets we send them, Ukraine is going to lose a war of attrition and when it finally snaps, it will likely be a rout and the whole country will be gone. They simply don't have the bodies for this to go on continuously.
