excluding those caused by combat. Hitler and his National Socialists get the most pub but he was not in the same league with the other two. Best estimates say Stalin was responsible for from 45 to 55 million whereas Mao with his agrarian reforms, his great leap forward and cultural revolution was responsible for the killing of upwards of 60 to 65 million humans. Hitler is held responsible for killing 6 million Jews another 1 to 1.5 M foreign workers, gypsies, disabled Germans and about 400,000 of his own citizens. Maybe 8 million. Yet 1 year after WW11 ended the US government estimates that roughly 50% of all German citizens interviewed by them (US Gov't) said National Socialism was a good idea it was just carried out wrong. But per capita the biggest big government socialist killer was the Khmer Rouge who in a short period murdered 2 million Cambodians of a total population of 7 M. The most prolific killer today is of course the little dictator and his recently deceased father of the Democratic People's Republic of N Korea.
Just finished reading The End by Ian Kershaw. Interesting enough Hitler got his political start by being assigned to spy on communists and socialists group at the end of WW1 and was converted by one of them, joined and then took over.
