The next five days...

could be brutal in portal... my guesses...

three offensive linemen
one running back
two receivers
one tight end

two defensive linemen
two linebackers
two defensive backs

think we take a wide receiver and running back immediately.

Biggest question marks on guys not coming back are...

TID
Cash
ETN
Everette
Young
Miller
Fairchild

Coaches...

Bobo
Searles
Williams
Uzo

just my opinion.

Seems like Sunday.

CFP Semi Finals

No conference champions. By default through the committee's seeding, no teams who got the 1st round bye are in the semi's.

This current model are making CCG's mean less and less. I was on the win the SECCG and get the bye bandwagon from the beginning. And I'm proud of the team for winning, but not sure it helped us. Also, not sure this team was getting past the quarter finals either way.

Stacy Searels had a worse night than Parker Jones

The sideline penalty was brutal. 20 yard net effect but absolute momentum killer. Even so, Searels and the OL got whipped all night. They were flat footed. They were slow. They were not prepared. That dude was a concern all season. He was a game killer tonight.

Kirby has some tough staff decisions to make. How he handles WR and OL will tell us a lot.

Loyalty is an important part of team building

But at some point you need to realize who isn’t performing and take steps to improve where needed.

I’m starting to feel like we may need to fill more than just a few holes with the portal. College football has changed, you have the ability to manage a roster more like an NFL team and payroll needs to be allocated appropriately

If someone’s not performing you can address that through the portal, you have the ability to reduce NIL to players who didn’t play to their expectations and reallocate to others. You can encourage guys to stay and improve but at the same time bring in better talent. Some will certainly leave, but that may not be a bad thing if they leave because you’re bringing in better talent.

Going to be some tough decisions, but I believe we might need to focus a bit less on spreading NIL around to a lot of guys who didn’t perform. time to try spending a bit less on retention and more of the budget on acquisitions. Especially on the offensive side of the ball. A #1 WR and LT are absolutely critical to next seasons success. I didn’t see Gunner as the answer at QB, but tough to tell with as little time as he had. This is college football now.

Reactions: Golfing Dawg

The 2024 version of Georgia football has been a head scratcher for me all season…

… and, a team I found it really hard to trust with my heart. As principal evidence, I thought UGA could lose to any number of the teams on its schedule; whereas, in years past, I thought it was us and Bama and no one else.

Carson Beck, while an able, serviceable QB in most respects, was never a leader with whom I was comfortable . Maybe it was his demeanor… because I never saw the fire of a Zeier, Stafford, Murray, Fromm, or Stockton over his two seasons of service. When the season began, and he was listed as a Heisman front runner, I really wondered what others saw that I missed. In the end, we’ll never know due to his arm injury whether the NFL saw him as valuable as the media.

The 2024 team, as a whole, was utterly lacking of standout players compared with previous seasons. If you think about 2017, for instance, there was Chubb, Michel, Fromm, Roquan, Hartman, and Woerner that you were absolutely sure could make a play if needed. The defense was a brick wall. Pick any subsequent season until this one and you can say virtually the same thing.

Our lack of stars plays into another of my neuroses. Like many of you, I am nervous about our NIL and portal game. Maybe I shouldn’t be about the former, but the latter concerns me sufficiently to question both. Supposed game changers seem to end up in places they shouldn’t (Nebraska, Colorado, etc.) or places that directly impact UGA (Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas, etc.). I can only wonder if the stars we have come to expect are now playing elsewhere.

In the coming weeks, I hope Kirby addresses a.) talent and b.) coaching. I need hope for 2025… which demonstrates just how spoiled I’ve become considering 2024 will forever be an SEC Championship season.

Can we retire this one for good?

Since people talked and re-talked about it for weeks, let's bring it up again the morning after the game.

There was a HUGE number of folks on this site that somehow had convinced themselves that the Dawgs were going to play better now that Gunner Stockton was QB because the team liked him more. I said it after the SECC that backup QBs often succeed when they come into the middle of the game and can cause a spark for that game. However, it doesn't generally continue after that because, well, they're the backup for a reason. (and Gunner played pretty well last night)

Other things that stand out to me...
  • We had 1 TFL. That's absurd.
  • We held Leonard to 90 passing yards.
  • We still can't catch the ball.
Finally, Mike Bobo orchestrated an offense that finished 120th in the nation in 1st quarter scoring. In our last 3 games, we averaged 2 points in the 1st quarter. We also finished 99th in the nation in 1st half scoring on the season.
