When I was young, this game tonight was THE GAME to go to during the Christmas break in Atlanta

Georgia/GT at the Omni was gold. I went to so many sold out games when i was a kid. Then, while at Georgia, we'd all go to the game during the Christmas break in Atlanta at the Omni. It was so much fun and always such a great game. Joe Ward, James Banks, Cedric Henderson, Kessler, Litterial Green, etc.
Now, the game isn't even on TV, and it's an afterthought. ESPN+? Awful. A damn shame.

UPI ATLANTA -- “Joe Ward wanted it clearly understood that the Georgia basketball team pulled off a come-from-behind, 60-59, victory over 14th-ranked Georgia Tech Tuesday night for itself, not to avenge the Bulldogs football loss 10 days earlier to the Yellow Jackets.

'Basketball and football are entirely different,' said Ward, a 6-foot-6 junior forward who got the final two of his game-high 20 points with just five seconds left to play. 'Sure, we were aware that some of our fans were anxious for us to even things up. But our desire to beat Georgia Tech would have been just as intense even if our football team had won.'

Georgia, 3-1 and unranked, trailed previously unbeaten Georgia Tech (now also 3-1) by five points, at 59-54, with just over two minutes left to play. Ward cut it to three, junior guard Donald Hartry cut it to one with 55 seconds left on a turnaround jumper, and Georgia got the ball for the last time with 19 seconds left when Tech forward John Salley committed an offensive foul.

The Bulldogs, who have now beaten Tech seven straight times over a five-season span, called time out to set up the hoped-for winning shot and Ward came through from the top of the key.

'It was a play we work on all the time,' said Georgia coach Hugh Durham.

Ward, who had only eight points at halftime when the score was tied at 33, said he knew the winning shot was going in when it left his hand. 'I followed through just like Coach is always telling me to do. I wanted it to be right -- and it was.'

Georgia Tech had six men on the court when Georgia came down court for its winning field goal. Scott Petway had gone in at center for Yvon Joseph and when Joseph didn't leave, freshman forward Duane Ferrell went to the sideline.

'What can you say?' asked Tech Coach Bobby Cremins. 'We had a little confusion there at the end. We substituted Petway for Joseph and Yvon didn't hear the substitution.

The favored Yellow Jackets led by four points early, fell behind by five with five minutes to play in the first half and tied it at the halftime buzzer when 7-foot freshman Antoine Ford tipped in a rebound.

Tech jumped back into the lead at the start of the second half and stayed there until Ward's winning goal.

Georgia unveiled its highly touted 6-8 freshman Cedric Henderson, who only became eligible this week because of previous academic problems. But Henderson, playing only seven minutes, was 0-for-3 from the floor and 0-for-2 from the free throw line while committing two turnovers and two fouls.

'We put him into a high-voltage situation,' said Durham. 'We were playing before the biggest crowd (16,119) ever to attend a college basketball game in the state of Georgia and in an extremely high-pressure game. It might have been better to let him wait until our next game, at home against Georgia State, but he was chomping at the bit. he really wanted to get in there.'

🚨 Dville’s Fake 321 🚨

This week’s Fake 321 is brought to you by night games, Gameday, the crowds at Onward Reserve this afternoon, and this Tropicalia I just cracked open. Let’s get after it.

3 Fax

1. The last stand. From 2019-2024, the Dawgs have started a lot of streaks. Unfortunately they’re almost all gone now. Back to Back titles, 29 straight wins, regular season win streak, road game win streak, beating everyone but Bama streak. It’s all out the window.

The one streak that remains is we haven’t lost at home since 2019. It’s a night game (finally), and the Dawgs need the crowd to get loud and make the Hedges shake because we’re coming home.

2 🎶 Then I saw her face now Iamaleava 🎶. Tennessee’s QB has a concussion and has been listed as “questionable” on their injury report. I’m not buying it. That dude is playing if they have to Weekend at Bernie’s him. I’ll be floored if he isn’t out there on Saturday night under the lights. Let’s make him uncomfortable, shall we?

3. They took our playbook! The Fake 321 has some inside information, and it turns out that Ole Miss had gotten a copy of our playbook last week. That explains which we weren’t able to move the ball as well. Here’s what they found:

Two Questions

1. Can Carson stop throwing interceptions? This is the third week in a row we’ve asked here in the Fake 321. That dude is giving it up more than the 2 am girl you took a flyer on at Boar’s Head at last call. Let’s be like a monk and keep the balls to ourselves, shall we?

2. What’s left in the tank? Let’s be honest. This team looked tired last week. This schedule has been an absolute gauntlet, and our guys looked like they had the weight of the world on them. Can our guys Hunker it down one more time?

1 prediction

I’m out of predictions with this team. My only prediction is that the fans will show up ready, and the team (or at least what’s left healthy of it) will show up ready. I don’t know who’s going to win tomorrow, but in confident that the effort will be better than Oxford.

Let’s make it 60 minutes of hell for Tennessee tomorrow and make them remember, forever, the night they played the Dawgs Between the Hedges.

Nashville Sports Radio doesn't think we even need to play the game tomorrow.

Things I heard on the air today (paraphrased):

The only way Georgia can win is if Tennessee hands it to them.

Tennessee is better on O than our D, their D against our O and special teams because of their return guy.

Who dubbed Kirby as the 2nd coming of Nick Saban? Kirby was lifted 2 championships. Heupel can jump him tomorrow (multiple calls along the same line)

Best thing to happen to the Vols is Kirby hiring Bobo. (I agree with this one)
