Whats with all the doom and gloom?

This kind of BS seals it; college football is no longer an amateur sport and it is going to destroy the culture of college football.

You gotta be effing kidding me. Man what’s going to become of college football…

Same level of disappointment .......

Whether he was wanted back or not that seems strange. Why wouldn’t Courson help him through the process. Regardless, bad look for UGA here

Carson wasn't part of the plan for next year. He said he was going pro. Now he wants to portal? Wgaf? We shouldn't. Wasn't part of the plan either way.

It wasn't a bad look for uga it was a bad look for Beck. Just like all the smiling on the sideline at ole miss. The wanting to be anywhere but new Orleans at the sugar bowl. The pouting. The bad body language. Good riddance. You boys are way too soft.

Kirby needs a QB with some b@lls…

You could listen to how he talked about Carson in press conferences all year. He was always trying to pump him up and tiptoe around his ego. Yet I remember him dog cussing Stetson at halftime of the orange bowl when we were up multiple scores. To play for Kirby you’ve got to have a little bit of FU in you and I don’t think Carson has that.

What is REALLY messed up

Everyone knows Kirby has been the gold standard the last few years on defensive development and putting defensive players into the league. HC's elsewhere can let Kirby recruit and develop these young players for a year or two (Damon Wilson). Who wouldn't want to spend $$$$$ to buy a Kirby-developed defender who is entering their prime?

You are going to see a ridiculous amount of year 1 and year 2 defensive players poached from UGA over the next several years IMO. Just pure evil. So easy to see why Saban walked away now.

On the portal...

I am as excited as anyone about these new portal additions - Thomas, Branch (x2), etc. We've picked up great players in the past who have shown themselves to be DGD.

But I also hate it.

I hate that we spend years becoming invested in a player's development, talent, and commitment to the University, all for him to transfer somewhere else - or lose his starting spot to a newcomer who wore a different jersey 2 months ago. I want Stockton or Pugs to start at QB. I want Bell, Tuggle, and Evans to be the guys at WR. I want the guys who I've read about and rooted for over the last few years to become the guys who lead us to victory on Saturdays.

One of the best things about CFB is the chance to watch young men grow up in front of your eyes, and it's even more fun when you get to trace the trajectory all the way back to their sophomore or junior year of high school. That experience is effectively gone.

NIL sucks too, but if I had to pick that or the portal, I think I'd give up the portal.

Latest Athletic draft board has Asa Newell up to the sixth overall selection

“6. Portland Trail Blazers

Asa Newell | 6-9 forward/big | 19 years old | Georgia

Newell has been about as metronomically consistent as you will find for a freshman this year. He’s averaging 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks per game. He’s been in double figures every single game save for one, a nine-point showing against Marquette. He’s switchable and impactful on the defensive end because of how flexible and coordinated he is athletically. Georgia can play him in drop coverage against ball screens or can use him in more aggressive coverages. He does a good job of rotating across the play and protecting the rim from the weak side and is quite active with his hands. Offensively, he largely plays as a big, but one who can pick-and-pop and occasionally knock down a 3. He’s hit nine of them this season, albeit at a 29 percent clip.

And yet — and I mean this as no shot at Newell — it feels aggressive to have Newell this high given that he’s largely just been utilized as a low-usage, defensive big this season. He looks like he’s going to be an excellent NBA player, but there’s a lot of work to do with both his frame and his ability to consistently attack the glass. Still, he’s an enormous athlete who has been productive, and NBA teams are excited to see how he fares in SEC play.”
