Just a reminder..

I already posted this in CGD’s thread but I’ll post here so it doesn’t get buried and derail that thread..

Todd Monken was hired at Georgia on January 17 after we beat Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. And even then, Coley was never officially ‘fired’ as OC. In fact, I don’t think Kirby has ever officially fired anyone in his tenure in Georgia. You just see guys leave for ‘other opportunities’.

So for anyone expecting to see wholesale coaching changes this soon, I would temper your immediate expectations and give it 2-4 weeks. There is a lot going on both on and off the field for Kirby right now but the top priority football wise is on player retention (portal and draft) as well as adding players in the portal as that is what has the most immediate deadline. Any staff changes would then likely happen after those deadlines.

Is there any NIL consideration for a Beck return?

Reading the latest Athletic report on Beck's injury, it mentioned an evaluation that I had not previously seen, which is that (pre-injury) Beck was viewed as a Round 3-4 QB. Dane Brugler is pretty good at his job, so this isn't just an arm chair draft blogger.

Given that portal season opens up serious discussions about capital allocation, is there any serious discussion about the potential of having NIL funds on hold for Beck to make a final decision?

I know there may be some added awkwardness internally if the team rallies behind Gunner and gets a ring with Carson injured, but I was curious if any people in the know were aware of this even being considered.

Without any disrespect intended, I have my own doubts that Carson will ever truly be a viable 1st round QB prospect. But if his dream is to be a starting NFL QB, it would probably be worth delaying another year given that 3rd rounders very really have the opportunity to prove themselves in the league (fair or not.)

For reference, if he were taken in the middle of the third round, his first contract would be a little over 6 mil for 4 years, with north of $2.5 million his first year (including a signing bonus.)

Obviously, the injury could further diminish his draft potential.

I feel much better about Georgia's playoff situation with Gunner than I do about the spot Beck is in right now. Really hate it for him.

Think of this sceanario….

If Kirby was still defensive coordinator at Bama under Saban and he looked into the future and had to stop Bobo’s 2024 UGA offense……he and Saban would have been licking their chops!! It would have been UGLIER offensively than what we witnessed any time this year!! I’m sure Kirby recognizes our offensive ineptness in our current situation……I’m sure there were no defensive coordinators we faced this year that was in fear of our offense…..smh
