Talent

Coaching definitely costs us tonight and we should have won that game. Gunner wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t cost us that game.

Overall, though, we need to address that the talent level is as bad as we have seen since Kirby’s first year. We were closer to an 8-4 team than a 14-2 National Champion. Honestly we used injuries as the excuse, but even at full strength this team is not close to what we are used to seeing. Worst was OL and WR. But DL, LB and DB were not what we have been used to under Kirby. LBers took bad angles consistently… corners couldn’t get off blocks… DL rarely got the push we are used to seeing.

Here is my question… we have not gone heavy in the portal and Freshman rarely make an immediate impact (maybe WR). Am I the only one that fears our talent quality will actually get worse next year? If so given our schedule, we will struggle to be elite.

Ohio State vs the SEC

Time to update a post I wrote in July 2022.

Ohio State vs the SEC

(Caveat: This is Ohio State’s record vs teams that were SEC members at the time they played. OSU likes to pad its record vs the SEC by including games against Missouri and others from before they joined the SEC and games against current members from before the SEC existed.)

Alabama leads OSU 4-1
Georgia leads OSU 2-0
Florida leads OSU 2-0
South Carolina leads OSU 2-0
Auburn leads OSU 1-0-1
Missouri leads OSU 1-0 (since joining the SEC)

Tennessee is now tied with OSU 1-1
LSU is tied with OSU 1-1-1

OSU leads Arkansas 1-0 (this win was later vacated)
OSU leads Kentucky 1-0 (Haven’t played since 1935. Other matchups pre-date the SEC)
OSU leads Vandy 1-0 (Haven’t played since 1933. Other matchups pre-date the SEC)

OSU hasn’t played Texas A&M since the Aggies joined the SEC
OSU has never played Ole Miss or Miss State

In total, the Ohio State Buckeyes are 6-14-2 all-time against SEC teams, one of those wins was vacated, and two more were from the 1930s.
