US oil production at HIGHest level in over 40 years.
US dollar at 12 year HIGH.

Time for a European vacation. 50 cent BEERS over there for Americans.

Because oil had just gone up. Gas has nearly fallen in half

Gas has different supply and demand factors than oil. Oil is used to make all kinds of things. Gasoline is just one of those things.

Plenty of oil, just not enough refineries to get ...

it processed into gas and out into the market.

Re: Because oil had just gone up. Gas has nearly fallen in half

I read an article last week where Delta CEO stated they would pass along fuel savings to stockholders and long-term debt as opposed to passing them along to consumers in lower airfare. Absolutely nothing wrong with that but one would think that one or two airlines would drop prices to try and grab market share - while fuel is down.

First new US refineries since the 1970s will online in next couple of years

That will bring competition like we haven't seen before, imo.

Absolutely. Unless Comrade BHO totally farks things up

with drilling and fracking before he leaves office, this country should be set up good for job growth in the industry as well as cheap fuel for us commoners.

Flights are full. Somebody brave will add more planes if prices stay down

But that means more costs, too. They are in the sweet spot right now.

That's why airlines and aerospace stocks have been such fantastic investments over the past several years, and are continuing to charge ahead this morning. The New York Stock Exchange Airline Index has tripled in the past 4 years.

He has no power. That's why oil plummeted while PUBs just took back

Congress.

Election was a huge catalyst for oil to finally adjust to market forces.
Threat of government destruction plummeted last Fall.

The price here...

Went down to $1.75 9/10 back in late Jan. It went back up to $2.25 9/10 in a 5 week period, only to go back down to $2.09 9/10 in the last couple of weeks. Yoyo...

Think I'll go out for a drive.

Didn't people in bygone days "take a drive" as a way of enjoying a Sunday afternoon?

Back in the day at D4S Amoco, folks WOOD come in the morning and

fill up their land yachts for $10.00 and do the same when they gat back that afternoon.

Gonna make the Grand Wagoneer my daily driver.*

Still do. Fambly made a 2 hour pleasure drive on Blue Ridge Parkway

On Friday, and then we all went to SC plantation on Sat.
Took 2 cars so people could split off. All because gas is CHEAP.

JBD fambly wood not have done any of that with $4 gas.

We used to take a picnic to the Parkway for after work suppers when gas was cheap. Will be doing that again once the weather gets warm. Used to love driving all over the region just for the hell of it. And that was before cooled seats.

JBD, never say never with Comrade BHO. Sneaky little SOB**

then shouldn't their be a shortage of gasoline?

we should see the same price for gas we saw two months ago when we had the same refining capacity as we do now - I think the difference now is that the refiners are doing that shift they have to do between winter and summer formulas required by the EPA, which they use as an excuse every year to raise the prices for a couple of months.

yes, so did gas prices, but gas prices haven't dropped back to

where they were when oil was at this level before.

I got the heated and I love them - cooled is next level ...

I need those on my next one.

They usually lag. Brent hasn't dropped to its earlier price yet, either

Gas and oil have different supply and demand factors. Lots of things made from oil...gasoline is just one of them. Oil hasn't really fallen back hard until the last few days. You really think gasoline should track it that close, day by day? It never does.

I'd be a little surprised if gasoline didn't follow along to new lows, but we will just have to see.

should they track that closely? they do when oil goes up

but it generally doesn't when it goes down. But the point is the price of gas isn't dropping with the price of oil presumably due to seasonal factors. I bought gas this morning and the price was pretty much unchanged from a few weeks ago when oil hit its short term high, and I'm assuming it has more to do with the annual excuse of "we're changing from winter to summer blend" than anything else (like there not being enough refiners which was suggested earlier).

Not having as much produced right now. Most refineries

typically go "off line" this time of year for maintenance and running at a minimum. Usually done at this time of year so when they start back producing, they just start running their summer blend.
