I trust what Rubio said yesterday. USAID was actively working against US interest in several countries. He did say that some spending was justified and would continue, just not that which goes against US foreign policy.
Thank goodness there are those like litedawg1968 who care. Trump and Musk are evil and those who refuse to acknowledge that will one day regret that they put their heads in the sand when our democratic freedoms and values were being taken away.

i notice no critiques of any of the cuts being made and corrupt spending, just focused on the fact that Elon wasn’t elected. Why does the work DOGE is doing scare anyone? It’s the reason I went from a lifelong democrat to abrepublican last year as it has become the peoples party and is holding government officials (unelected) accountable. That should be welcomed by all and is by the vast majority. I am half sad to see the party i supported for so many years come to its demise, but it is certainly self-inflicted and full of corruption.

USAID was established by an executive order from John Kennedy so President Trump can eliminate that department by executive order. All Trump wants to do is see where the money is going and who it’s going to and what for.

No, it wasn't. Congress pass a law to set up a foreign aid program and Kennedy created USAID with an executive order to comply with the law. Nothing says the function of distributing foreign aid can't run thru the state dept and nothing says the funding must go to countries and orgs that are in conflict with the current POTUS's foreign policy.

Yes, Kennedy was complying with the Foreign Assistance Act which mandated the creation of an agency. So he was not acting on his own and used the executive order to create the agency. Someone else trying to eliminate it with an executive order is trying to take away power from Congress. The big issue is the executive branch trying to control the Supreme Court and Congress.

Power is not being taken from Congress as long as the agency spends the money. POTUS has the authority to direct all foreign policy and foreign aid. Iows, POTUS can put Rubio in charge of USAID and direct him to give the money that has been going to the Lutheran Church to facilitate illegal activity and give it to an org that is spending money to keep immigrants in their home country.
True. But whatever words you want to use, Trump is intending to eliminate it by executive order. Change is needed in a lot of areas, but the way he is going about it is not good.
Heard today but have not verified that USAID has been sending millions to the taliban and hamas. We also know USAID has been sending millions to NGOs which are violating US immigration law.
I am okay with AID going to impoverished countries to feed little girls but I dont think many Americans want their tax dollars used to prop up corrupt regimes that steal the aid or to fund terror orgs. I am not sure how anyone could justify a government agency knowingly funding groups that violate US law.
I wasn't defending USAID; let's get rid of all the inappropriate contributions you mention. The problem I have is Trump trying to disrupt the government on an unprecedented scale. The executive order regarding citizenship was a shot right out of the gate. So all we have now is chaos as another federal judge has issued a nationwide injunction. No one is going to convince me he is going about things in an appropriate way.
Problem is we have been trying to do it the appropriate way for decades and we have reached a point where some agencies thumb their nose at oversight. POTUS is in charge of the executive branch so while I expect conflict between the exec and leg branches, agencies under the purview of the exec aren't in a position to negotiate with the POTUS.
"Appropriate" is measured by lasting outcomes, not process.
That measure, however, can only be known in the future.

I understand the argument that "yes", the process is more important than outcomes - I used to believe this myself. That unorthodox action in this case, becomes precedent which creates NEW SUPER BAD PROBLEM in the future. The problem is that unorthodox actions are routinely used in ways that create all sorts of new super bad problems, without being used to fix pre-existing bad problems.
America's government is fundamentally broken. It has been for a long time. It is entirely unable to deal with real, structural problems. Trump isn't responsible for that, he is the beneficiary of it. A well functioning political system doesn't elect a Trump (and definitely doesn't do it twice.)
Ultimately the purpose of running the government, at least in theory, is to improve the lives of those that live under it. It is not meant to exist for the sake of its own existence. Throughout history, we have seen all sorts of powerful governments decay under their own corruption and self-interest, with the incentives of that government so tightly wound into its corruption that solving it is not practical.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for the ideas of Cicero. But ultimately he was an enabler of the corrupt senate, and it required Caesar to solve it through action.
