Agreed. Salary would be public. Net worth would be private. So how are people claiming to know this.

I’m definitely not trying to get in the way of a good rage fest, but I keep reminding people that at least half of what’s posted on Twitter is literally just made up and people seem to not remember

What's worse is that well more than half of what Elon Musk himself is posting these days is either a lie, a gross and intentional mischaracterization or highly inflammatory (obviously, many posts click all three boxes). This is particularly concerning given he is easily the second most powerful person in the country right now and has total control of what the X algorithms boost or bury.

There is literally not one scintilla of evidence to suggest that Elon is attempting to act in the best interest on the country right now.

Just ask the farmers who are facing bankruptcy because the $2b in USAID contracts for US agricultural products have been rescinded with no notice.

Or check in with the multitude of NIH- funded medical research projects and researchers that Elon unilaterally decided had no worth and shut down.

I could go on, but I don't have all day to chronicle all of the negative impacts we are seeing and will continue to see from the world's richest man and his group of programmers (not forensic accountants, programmers, which is telling) laying waste to programs with zero understanding of the impact of those decisions. In fact, the entire point is to make the outrage so overwhelming that it's difficult to know where to focus. It's working.

But don't be surprised when we discover the very real damage that Elon (and Trump, who is allowing it all to happen) are doing to the country. Ignorance is not an excuse.

To be fair, they have also already identified a ton of fraud and waste.

I believe the number is $2.8 trillion in spending that nobody has a record of. That does not include programs that are outside of the original scope of the organization.

Bottom line, Trump said he would do this when he was running, he won the election, and he’s doing what he said he would do. At a minimum, I respect him for saying who he is, and following through.

There will be collateral damage in the form of either un-intended or intended consequences of cutting "good" spending. It happens anytime a Company makes cuts.....in hindsight some bad cuts were made.

That said - Right now, the collateral damage of "business as usual" is hundreds of billions, if not $1T+ of yours and my money going to truly bullshit stuff. Someone needs to take a look under the hood, as any good organization would.

Ultimately, I predict that the collateral damage of trying to be a good fiduciary for Americans' hard-earned money will be less than 5% of the collateral damage we have now in the form of wasting our hard earned dough.

They have yet to identify a single dollar of fraud. Not $1. What they have uncovered is the legal allocation of funds that they disagree with and deem waste. There is a huge difference.

More lies from Trump and Elon. If you don't believe me, look it up and share any actual fraud that they have found. I suggest spending a few minutes to research anything from Trump or Musk if they are your primary source.

The DOD has failed seven consecutive audits, and many more than that in the past. I wonder how Elon's programmers are doing getting access to all of those systems.

I think you will be proven wrong and given the pace and the appearance of a total lack of a process or analysis from Musk and team, I suspect we won't have to wait that long to see.

Fraud or waste. Doesn’t make a difference to me. Any financial auditor will tell you that where there is questionable / wasteful spend, it is a recipe for fraud. Bottom line. I just want my dollars going to legit places. We need to cut spending. Don’t give a shit what they call it. Quit spending on bullshit.

We shall see. My bet is on a genius who is famously successful in everything he does versus the famously terrible efficiency and execution of the federal government. A terrible political hill to die on as well because 90 percent of Americans rightly believe a ton of government spending is terrible.

The difference matters. Rampant fraud is an excuse, not a valid excuse but an excuse, to skirt legal and constitutional safeguards and separation of powers. Waste does not provide even the false pretense of a justification for what Elon is doing.

This is exactly why we are being flooded with a tsunami of lies about fraud that they are not finding. It's an important part of the plan to get people to accept the breakdown of the constitutional order in the name of "the greater good".

Bottom line - like any organization the federal government needs a legit audit to get to a place where we can identify ways to save money - a win for everyone.

Fraud? Waste? Doesn’t matter to me. Cut it out. The disinformation I see is the fear mongering about how Musk is “stealing your information” or cutting Medicare or SS benefits. Or any direct payments to citizens whatsoever.

Aside from some legitimate concerns about how even legitimate layoffs affect good hard working people, and aside from Musk’s style, please tell me what DOGE is doing that is putting taxpayers at risk……relative to the benefit that cutting bullshit spend does for the taxpayer. Specific examples please of how this has hurt a specific taxpayer.

Well, I don’t think his programmers are going to do very well since I believe a judge just blocked their access, correct? But Trump said the department of Defence audit will begin next week. I believe that it will.

With all due respect, I think you are really splitting hairs on the word “fraud“. There is $2.8 trillion that is unaccounted for. Do I, or does anyone, have proof that it is fraud? No. But that’s not where the burden stands. I, as a taxpayer, would never have access to proof of fraud. The government must prove that they are spending things in a lawful, prudent way, and we have already identified that that is not happening. USAID failed for audits in a row. I believe the Pentagon has failed seven. You can say that that is not fraud, and you would be technically correct. But to completely mismanage an Organization to that level is really running up to the line where incompetence and fraud meet.

Honestly I think most of the expenditures could be classified as fraud. FEMA funds for illegal immigrant housing is fraud. SS funds to Ukraine is fraud. Chelsea siphoning funds is fraud. Funneling funds to left wing media is fraud. I consider most of the outrageous funding as fraud. Not to mention missing funds.

If this deficit doesn’t constitute a true national emergency, I don’t know what does. Looks like a majority of Americans agree.

I would love to help those in need at a greater level than ever before. Even those in need abroad. Not only is it the right thing to do, it absolutely makes us all stronger. I think most feel that way. But we have got to get our house in order first.

Quit spending on bullshit.
Call your house rep and your us senator. Vote them out if you don't like it. That's the appropriate response. Unplugging it like a damn video game is not the right approach (I agree with most here that spending is out of control).

These funds were lawfully appropriated by republicans in office, just as much as they were democrats (moreso even givne the Dems haven't controlled the purse since '22).

The senator and house rep have the power to allocate federal money. With that, you would think they would be interested in oversight, but they are not.

The executive branch, once allocated that money is responsible for executing that spend. That same executive branch has the power and now finally the will and skill to audit that spend.

To pretend like the only way you can legally impact whether or not our money goes to LGBTQ comic books is to call your elected representative is like saying the only way an officer in the military can order a subordinate to fire on an enemy is for that officer to be an elected representative.
