First met Sonny Smart, I guess it was 1988…

I was a sports writer with the Valdosta Daily times. Valdosta played at Bainbridge.
Sonny let me use his office to send to send my story.
Funny the things you remember….
Prayers up to the entire Smart family.
PS - I don’t know how Kirby was able to coach the Sugar Bowl knowing that all was going on with his dad at the time of the game.

The more I watch the replay the more I feel sorry for Parker Jones and the more I get

pissed with that little bitch of an official. That should have been a warning at most. It would have been different if he crashed into him and went down this was a nothing burger. What is this officials name? I need to do some research. Is his last name Holtz, Parseghisn or Rockne by chance?

Is 2025 a reload or rebuild?

Hate to say it but looks closer to a rebuild, tough schedule combined with upper classmen departures, plus QB questions. 2025 is not a write off year, but definitely need to use it to build depth for 2026.

I would like to see more freshman and redshirts get subbed in more, need to really see who has it on game day, that includes Puglisi. The last thing we want is questions at QB again in 2026.

2026 defense: Jr KJB, So. Griffin, add Cole, Justin Williams, ER at corner, that group could be special. Need to find answers and depth on Offense in 2025 to go with that defense in 2026.

Stay/Leave

As of right now I’m very curious on the following guys decisions on if they will return or leave for NFL/Portal. I’ve heard from some people that Malaki may not go to the draft. Regardless, lots of interesting decisions on the board right now
•Malaki Starks
•Fairchild
•ETN
•Bell
•Ingrams-Dawkins
•Delp
•Everette
Of that group I can see Starks and Fairchild going to draft but other than that I don’t see any other departures

The only thing keeping Kirby from becoming Saban

I'm thinking back to an interview with Kirby just before (or maybe just after) the 2021 National Championship.

Kirby was asked to reflect on Saban and his relationship with him and he made a comment that has stuck in my mind ever since:

"One thing I've seen in Coach Saban is that in his recent years he's truly come to understand the value of relationships much more deeply". That's not an exact quote, but that's the gist of it.

There is a whole lot happening in that comment. I could almost hear Kirby saying 'I have seen this guy destroy people in a way that he will never be forgiven for, and honestly it freaked me tf out'.

And therein lies the last remaining hurdle Kirby has to clear if he wants to fully become what Saban was. He has to completely embrace the age old wisdom that it's lonely at the top and he's often not going to be loved for doing what needs to be done. That he's going to have to let go of his friends if he wants to keep giving speeches about being elite. That he cannot let a modicum of feeling creep into his decision making process with respect to our program.

The Kirby Smart that sits at the dinner table of recruits cannot be allow to make any more hires. When it's hiring season, he has to be cold and hard and ruthless to the point that he leaves people around him wondering if he understands the value of human connection.

Kirby did not hire Mike Bobo because he was the best for the job. Mike had been fired 3 times in a row before Kirby pulled him out of retirement and put him in charge. Kirby did not hire Stacy Searles after a thorough search for the best available. Kirby hired Mike and Stacy because it was convenient and easy and they were all buddies and it felt good.

Next year probably isn't going to be great regardless, but the years after that are very much up for grabs. Is it back to elite status or back to the Richt years?

Kirby's ability to ignore the value of relationships will likely be the determining factor.

Placing blame for the loss!

It never ceases to amaze me how many people know how to coach a winning football team! I see all these people on social media casting blame on people for our lost. It seems everyone wants to fire somebody! People are blaming President Morehead, AD Josh Brooks, Head Coach Kirby Smart, Off. Co-ordiator Mike Bobo, Offensive Line Coach Stacey Scearels, and almost anll the other assistant coaches! One guy said Kirby needs to get his son off the side lines! One group has not been criticized yet is out fair weather fans who packed up and came home Wednesday after the problem on Tuesday night and the postponement of the game one day! Thousands of Dawg fans left! There were many empty seats in the Dawg sections! I understand if you had to be at work Friday or possible family issues were involved but otherwise people needed to stay and support our coaches and players and we failed as a group to do that! I say we fire all the fans who packed up and came home without a good excuse! I don’t know if they were scared or what but way too many left before the game! My group of 10 immediately said I am staying to support my team! I am appalled at the thousands that just ran home! I was sleeping less than 1 mile from where 15 people were killed! I never thought about turning tail and running home! We cannot let terrorist control our lives! I never felt fear or concern during the 2 days after! Whew! Glad I got that off my chest!
