Strange feeling after last night..

It is odd but walking out of the Superdome last night I didn’t feel nearly as upset/disappointed as I did leaving MBS after the SECCG last year. Last year it felt like we were truly the best team in the country and I’ll forever believe that A) we should have still been in the CFP and B) we would have won the National Championship if we had made it so when we lost that game I knew we had likely just lost a championship. But this year didn’t feel like that..

Did I think we could potentially out talent ND and Penn State and somehow find ourselves in the National Championship game in Atlanta where we would just need one magical performance in our own backyard to win? Yes, absolutely. This team showed the heart of a champion all year and I wasn’t going to rule them out until they were finally knocked out but last night they were. We can all agree this wasn’t our most talented team though and I think that’s why the ‘hurt’ from last night isn’t nearly as strong as last year.

The next 2-4 weeks will be very important for the future of the Georgia program as we have areas we absolutely need to address but for now, I’ll still appreciate having watched this group win an SEC Championship and give us multiple classic games and comebacks. It’s still GREAT to be a Dawg and there is nobody else I would rather have be our HC than Kirby Smart. This isn’t the last you will hear of Georgia.. GATA!!

Officiating

This will be my annual year end post on how bad officiating has gotten across all sports but in particular football. The officials did not cost
that game but the days of “officials don’t determine outcomes” is long gone. It will never be fixed until the protection these guys get, equal to a President, is removed and they are forced to stand in front of the entire media and answer questions publicly.

I’ve always said this would actually help rebuild trust, because there is very little trust now. People would get to hear the reason, the mechanics and the rules behind calls. It makes them human. These guys in the booth who they pull in, just protect their own.

There is no public accountability, which would help as well. Fans then would know that there are consequences for a poor job. Right now we don’t believe that anything happens.

And this is my yearly acknowledgement that it will not happen with unions. Until something bad happens and we are not from it in terms of a cheating scandal, fan attack, etc.

Money and protection rules the day. Something needs to be done.

Good Morning Dawg Nation

Well, that wasn't the ending we were all hoping for but it was a helluva ride. And the Vent is appropriately named for sure! So many emotions, but in the end I hope we all are thankful for what we've experienced over the last few years.
@aholbrook0523 said it best last night (great first post, btw!) We could be UF, Kentucky or any other team that's been sitting at home while we've enjoyed the fruits of CKS's labor......seasons we've dreamed about for 40 years and wondered if we'd ever see again. Be grateful.....events earlier this week reminded me that while I live and breathe Georgia football, it can all be over in a few seconds.

Hang on to your britches, lots of portaling and such is about to happen, maybe?!?!

Praying for all those on the LDGMDNOPL and the GMDN gang too 🙏🏻

Happy Birthday/Anniversary if you're celebrating today 🥳 🎉

Love you guys and gals, MEAN IT!!

Go Dawgs ♥️

Couple of Qs regarding the portal.....

1. Why would anyone be surprised that we don't sign an elite WR? Or more to the point, why would anyone expect us to sign an elite WR? We don't have a returning qb that slings it around AND we've never had a system that features ONE guy. (We haven't had a wr go over 800 yds since 2015 and over 1,000 yds since 2002).

2. Unless there's an established, ELITE qb in the portal, how does Kirby justify bringing in another guy ahead of Rashada, Pugs, and Gunner? All 3 are young guys that haven't had their chance yet. Seems like IF they were good enough to bring in, they are good enough to keep. Especially if the options in the portal are similar, unproven dudes.

I trust Kirby to get it right.

We've become spoiled a little bit. We beat Florida, Tech, Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson and Texas (twice) and won the SEC...

And yet, here we are talking about getting rid of coaches.

Imagine how this run of wins over the above would've felt 10 years ago. I remember that from 1983 through 2006, we didn't beat Florida and Auburn in the same year even once.

I'm not saying people don't have a right to be mad about last night, or about how the team has played all year. But we're a victim of increased expectations.
