Does cold weather really favor the home team?

I see a lot of talk about the teams up north playing home games having an advantage in the CFP first round due to the weather. I think there is something to this, but is it overblown?

The regular season usually ends in November, and the weather (usually) is not severe in November. Occasionally we see a snow game, but they are really pretty rare. I might argue Ohio State is no more prepared than Tennessee to play in the snow. Neither one plays football in the snow during the regular season. Temperature can be a factor, but if it's not really severe, keeping warm as a player doesn't seem like a big deal. If the temperature is severe, everybody, including the home team, is miserable.

On the other hand, it does feel like Southern teams have a home field advantage when it's hot and humid. So perhaps the argument that hot and humid favors Southern teams is akin to cold and wet favors Northern teams?

ESPN CFP Player Rankings

I do not put much weight into these nor do I think the players do as much as I wish they did but I still hope these get posted in their lockers. Sure SMU and Boise have had cute seasons but come on. Clemson having 5 players on the list is a joke. I am also tired of seeing the LT Banks from Texas consistently rated above Jalen on every list that comes out when Jalen abused him.

Memphis

I’m not sure who their OC is but damn maybe we should be looking at him if Bobo decides to step down. Watching the Memphis v WVU condensed game right now and love how he get it to the backs out of the backfield.

Their QB, their backs, and that WR #3 are all legit.

Million Dollar Playoff Hypothetical Quesiton...

If Ole Miss and Bama had not suffered those late season upsets in Gainesville and Norman, and everything else happened as is...would we have made the playoff? I'll go off the assumption Texas beats Bama in the SECCG:

1 Oregon
2 Texas
3 Boise St
4 Arizona St.
5 Penn St.
6 ND
7 Bama
8 Ohio St.
9 Ole Miss
10/11 (Choosing between 3 teams: 11-2 SMU, 11-1 Indiana, 10-2 Georgia)
12 Clemson

I think we would have, but it would have been close. It was close with a 9-3 Bama vs. SMU, and I think a 10-2 UGA with an even stronger schedule gets the nod, but Tennessee would have most certainly have been left out.

NIL Allocation

I don’t assume UGA’s collective spending is already at $20M, but will get there and likely above with the rev sharing.

How close we do think an allocation like this is to reality? Obviously this chart is more thought exercise than practice, but seems like some of the principals align to Kirby’s strategy

- high end starters / NFL guys make GOOD money

- a decent minimum for guys on the roster / entice P5 level kids to walk-on

- pretty tiered middle group that keeps us from jumping into bidding wars for HS recruits (example… we’ll spring for a KJ Bolden in a tight recruitment to get 300k - 500K but not 750K+)

I hate NIL. Here are WR Micah Hudson’s list of demands. SMH

1- minimum of 700k wired up front for 1 year deal

2- separate NIL deal for 3 cars for family members

3- personal driver with Cadillac SUV for Micah from spring practice until end of season

4- family hotel and travel arrangements for up to 10 family members or friends. All travel, tickets and costs paid for

5- medical injury time off and playing after injury only determined by Micah

First round CFP predictions

I have to admit that while I’m not necessarily a fan of the 12 team playoff that I am excited to watch these games. Should be fun.

On paper, it looks like all the home favorites should win but that just seems very unlikely given the way this year has gone.. So I’ve got Texas, Ohio State, Penn State and then Indiana winning in an upset.

Who ya got??
