GO DAWGS

Maria and I were just finishing our anniversary dinner in the tamarind room aboard the cruise ship when the maitre de came up. He saw my 21 and 22 national title lanyard and said GO DAWGS. He was from Thailand but knew all about UGA football.
Amazing how widespread dawg fb is. He wanted to know all about the sugar bowl and who we would play.

Why the consensus that a Gunner-led offense will...

...be limited to short and mid-range throws? He seems to have a cannon for an arm, and he didn't amass 13,000+ yards in HS from short passes only, did he? I know we have a small UGA sample size, but it seems that there is plenty of potential for stretching the field with him at QB. And an added dimension, that's already been widely covered, of creating plays with his feet. With 3+ weeks of QB prep, I will not be surprised to see a mix of short, mid-range, and deep throws from him.

Prayer Request UPDATE, finally, my cancer marathon has begun.

FIRST DAY OF CHEMO.

Every marathon begins with the first step so let it begin.

Tomorrow is my first radiation treatment,
and I'm pumped to get radiation underway.

I'm more excited about the radiation because as the mass in my ribs reduce in size, so will the pain.

My hope, no rib pain several days before we win the Sugar Bowl, and a significant improvement in other measureable areas the day we win the National Championship.

NE,Macon Ga at Dome

I am proud of NE's effort today & applaud Toombs Co for winning State Championship!!! BUT what I really applaud The Crowd from Bibb Co that filled the Dome, but for them to fill their side of Dome in a Tuesday at Midday & the GPB Crew for some reason decided to ignore them & let The State of Ga & others see how They represented!!! My 1980 Story (pics included)

I did not attend The University of Georgia. I did not even grow up in Georgia.

But I was born in Dublin, Georgia. My father was not only a high school football legend in that town, but a diehard Georgia fan. Some of my earliest pictures are of me decked out in Georgia gear. But at an early age, my father was transferred down to Mississippi where I spent most of my childhood into my college years.

I inherited my fanaticism from my father and carried it with me to Mississippi. I watched every Georgia game on TV and when they weren’t on TV, I listened to a faint reception of Munson on WSB 750. The reception was much better at night, but during the day I usually only caught every other play if that, but enough to keep up. Thank God WSB had a strong enough signal so I could at least get something!

I was the only Georgia fan in my school and outside of my family, probably in my town. I saved everything Georgia I could find, pictures in magazines and the old TV Guide rosters for every game:

My dad took me to the 1977 Sugar Bowl, which I believe was my first game, but I had never been to Sanford Stadium.

By the time the 1980 season rolled around, Georgia football consumed my mind and heart at 13 years old. Herschel became my hero. And when it was decided that Georgia would be playing Notre Dame for the national championship in the Sugar Bowl, that’s all I wanted for Christmas – to go to that game. New Orleans was only an hour and a half away from where we lived. My father told me to not get my hopes up about going to the game. Tickets were nowhere to be found. He was being completely truthful; it was not a fib to keep it a surprise. He really couldn’t find any tickets at all.

Believing him, I decided that I would take matters into my own hands and go straight to the source – Vince Dooley. So, I wrote him a letter asking him if he could help me find tickets.

And he wrote me back. I still have that letter. He thanked me for writing but unfortunately, he could not help me, but offered some suggestions. He told me that there was very little chance I would find any tickets.

I know my dad must have really been disappointed that he could not find tickets for me, as I would have been for my own sons. But knowing he couldn’t get tickets, he commissioned a local artist, a friend of his, to paint a picture of Herschel and UGA for me for Christmas. It hangs in my office today, right behind my desk.

On Christmas Eve, there were still no tickets to be found. I was in bed waiting for the big day, but with the realization that I wasn’t going to the game. So, I fell asleep.

When it turned Christmas at midnight, as my father was setting out Christmas presents for the morning, our neighbor knocked on the door. My father opened the door and our neighbor asked if my dad would fix him a drink. My father was puzzled and a little put out about this intrusion so late, but he was a nice guy and fixed our neighbor a drink. They sat down in the living room, and while sipping on his cocktail, our neighbor reached into his front pocket, pulled out four tickets and said, “Merry Christmas.”

My dad was in shock.

So, the next morning, I wake up and see this amazing portrait under the tree. I was thrilled! Next up, the stockings. I dumped out the stocking full of candy and at the bottom was a box. I opened the box and there in it were four of the most beautiful pieces of paper I’ve ever seen. Sugar Bowl tickets!

I cried like a baby.

I did not enjoy the game at all. I was a nervous wreck. But what a glorious feeling when the clock ran out and I watched all those crazy people run on to the field. My dad didn’t want to risk taking his kids into that crazy mob.

But it was glorious to behold.

I’m not going to the game this time. My back probably can’t handle the trip as I’m preparing for back surgery soon.

But I’ll be watching just about like I watched that game in 1981 – a nervous wreck.

Go Dawgs!

Good Morning Dawg Nation

Taco Tuesday?

I vote yes, so I don't have to plan a meal or cook it, tonight!

How bad are the QBs for Atlanta and Las Vegas? Geezzzz..... that was painful to watch. Feel really bad for Bowers. Such a talent on THAT offense. He just keeps giving 100% though. Still miss that guy!

1700 in the portal?!?!?! WTH?? That's some crazy numbers. Surely the powers that be realize something has to be done? Can you imagine if real life worked like that?

Praying for all those on LDGMDNOPL
and all the GMDN gang too!

Happy Birthday/Anniversary if you're celebrating today 🎉🎉

Love you guys and gals, MEAN IT.....

Go Dawgs ❤️

Scouting Notre Dame vs USC

The only real opponent game I could find for Notre Dame was USC (I am limited by the youtubes). There isn't anything fancy or flashy about them. On defense they're going to line up in a even front, 4-3 and play man. They really like their one corner who will play more on-man or press man than the other, but they will go man across the board. No one in their front 7 really stands out. They're not big, they're not fast. The secondary is where their bread is buttered. Their safeties will come flying up the field on the bubbles and tunnels (I'm waiting for us to go screen and go one time). Our man coverage beaters need to be on (I don't think I've seen UGA run mesh a single time this year for some reason but that's another post). Any type of double tight or tight/wing formation they'll have 8 in the box, and I still think you can run on them then. USC hurt them with H back insert and double insert which is something we've been doing a little more of lately. They're not soft up front, there's just nothing special about their front 7. They don't blitz a lot but they will slant and stunt their defensive linemen, which is what you have to do when you're smaller.
On offense it's very similar. Not a whole lot of layered pass concepts. It's pick/rub routes and I don't think any of their receivers scare me. Their QB is not afraid to tuck it and run and he's pretty good at that. Our scheme where we pressure with 5 and have Jalon eyeing the QB and triggering whenever he commits will create big plays for us on defense. They haven't seen anyone with near our team speed on defense. They're pretty vanilla. It's tough to say how good their offensive line is because USC defense is just bad. Notre Dame's offensive running stats aren't eye popping but their running back is fairly quick and he's tough. He's not afraid to stick his nose in. I would bet that they'll run the Q on the zone read early to see how we defend it; early stops in the game will be critical for us to set the tone and make them adjust to what we do. I think we can go man on them and just load up against the run and force them to try and beat us with the Q's arm- probably what they will do to us with their defense as well but I like our run game more. We have more diversity and explosiveness there then they do. I think we match up very well with what they do on offense. Having Mykel or Jalon bust up their QB early would be great because he's never seen anyone with our size and speed combination.
