My ADD Random Thoughts

Mr. Thorson is not only pretty friggin' funny on Twitter as well as a great punter but obviously put the time in over in Australia to play their version of football. I mean do we now have him leading the angle tackling drills in practice? That was textbook, a huge play in the game, and then he put a little extra into the Vol he had just splattered. That was just the perfect synopsis of how all 3 phases came to play last night.

Home games matter in the SEC. Several of us on the Vent kept saying it to the naysayers. Tennessee had barely left Knoxville and the Dawgs hadn't seen Sanford in forever. And at night???? LSU's Death Valley should no longer be considered the toughest place to win at night. I believe the Dawgs haven't lost a night game in Athens since 2009.

The O-line was beautiful in pass protection. That was truly a long lost and welcome sight. Run blocking still leaves a lot to be desired but at least we can hang our hats on being good at one of them. (altered cadence helped)

I'm a huge fan in Carson Beck. Was during his struggles, still am today. LAST NIGHT was why you don't bench your starting QB when he goes through a bad stretch. That position is different. We had a ton of people asking for a benching or to sit out several series in games. No. Absolutely not. Kirby has done an outstanding job handling him. I'm ready for some receipt threads.

Speaking of Kirby, he was at his calmest when we were down and was most fired up when we were up. Togwo Would CALL THAT Coaching 101.

My funniest complaint last night that was audible to my wife was, "Why do we recruit receivers with nubs as hands?" Sigh. At least we cut back on the drops.

Loved seeing Chauncy get snaps as well as Nitro and Sacovie. Keep fitting them in, please!

Delp is back. And hello, Monroe Freeling.

I still don't know what a pass interference is and isn't. On a game to game basis, I am consistently confused by the inconsistency.

Smael, everyone. The defense is swarming once again. And was the change from Humphrey to Harris permanent or did Humphrey get back in there regularly?

Since 2021, Tennessee has scored 10, 3, 7, and 10 points in the first quarter vs. the Dawgs. Then the Dawgs have outscored them 106-27 over the next 3 quarters.

Since the Vols last beat the Dawgs on a lucky prayer in '16, it's Georgia 303, Tennessee 104 in points.

Dawgs are 19-6 vs. the Vols since Y2K.

Screw the SEC championship game. Let's get healthy and ready for the playoff. We need the rest in a big way.

Fullback

Are we a fullback away from being a well rounded offense? Our tailbacks rarely get through the LOS clean. A fullback would help cover up that our running backs are way below average at blocking. We have been recruiting tweener type tight ends that might as well be big wide receivers. Watching Chaz block on that 4th quarter TD just felt right.

Opening Statement…

“I want to give credit to Georgia. They did what had to be done in the second half to get a win. I love the effort that we played with. We played physical. We just didn’t do enough as coaches and players together to get on the right side of the scoreboard in the second half. There are things in the first half too about being better at some of the things that you need to against a good team to win the football game, to many big plays given up defensively, offensively some assignment stuff in critical situations that change the way the game is played. I do love the effort and competitiveness that our guys played with. We just have to be better.”

On what he saw from Georgia’s passing ability…

“They had a big night creating explosive plays down the football field. Some of them were contested plays. Guys are open down the middle. We were playing really well early then gave up a hard count where they have a free shot down the middle of the football field to make it explosive. They robbed us a couple times and got guys free too. All in all, we weren’t playing well enough.”

On the message to the team after the game…

“Practice well. Practice hard. Prepare hard. They did a lot of the right things in the leadup to the game. Tonight, what happened down on that field defines tonight. That is the reality of it. It is the nature of being a competitor. Where do we go from here? Man, let it soak in. Let it hurt. Watch it. Grow from there. Get the next opportunity. We’ve got more guaranteed. The only one that matters is next week. This group will continue to grow. We don’t control what we don’t control. We control our preparation. We control how we get ourselves ready to go play next Saturday. We’ve got a good football team in that locker room. It is a good football team. We’ve got to coach a li le be er. We’ve got to play a little better.”

*The SEC office subsidized a Texas entry in the SEC. How in the hell do you explain avoiding Tennessee, OM, Bama, and LSU? I think OM and Bama are better right now and we have H2H. Haven’t played anyone with a pulse outside of us.

**As for Bama, I don’t care about the H2H, you lost to Vandy.

Game day experience

Ad Josh brooks steps up and should be applauded. The fireworks and light show was awesome. Music had new choices with the classics. Blackout with the red jerseys were a great choice. Fans were electric. It was one of if not the best game atmosphere I’ve seen in Athens. Huge step forwards were taken by the typical vent complaint. Told my mom, it felt like JB. Reads the vent. He truly worked hard and the effort was rewarded to the fans!!!

Go dawgs!!!!

Edit: and replays were shown!!
