… that, when not going forward is an option, it takes incredible leadership to overcome the loss of inertia.
In the new world of NIL and the portal, a better deal - and, maybe even an easier deal - is a real or imagined option. The amount of leadership it takes to convince 18-22 year old prima donnas that here and now is the mission to which one commits has become unbelievable Herculean.
I’m not sure we have a fire-breathing ass eater on our team. They are rare. But, right now, one is desperately needed.
AJ Green, even a poor man’s AJG? I don’t keep up with recruiting much until they sign on the dotted line, and even then it’s not the end of the story with the portal and NIL. Anybody know what his speed is?
I'll hang up and listen, because I don't really claim to know shit. But it seems our recruiting has fallen down a notch and the intensity on defense just doesn't seem to be quite the same.
Trying to be optimistic and take this season week by week. While after every loss it feels like the sky is falling I do want to say that regardless of some others opinions we lost to a VERY good team Saturday in front of their largest crowd ever. We have been battle tested this season for sure but we may have very well ran into a buzzsaw in Ole Miss right now and played a team who is beginning to hit their stride even with some key pieces out. They were coming off an impressive win against Arkansas and were in desperation mode considering if they lost they were out of playoff contention. Even being “one dimensional” their passing game was in sync all game.
I get there are enough reasons to be concerned about the OL and play calling and that’s going to be the case going forward but Ole Miss also leads the country in sacks, TFL, top 10 in rushing defense and a top 10 scoring defense. They are also top 3 in least amount of time trailing this season.
The obvious concerning part is our early game plan was to establish some form of a running game but that was against arguably one of the better fronts in CFB and we had a banged up Etienne. We knew we had to get the ball out quick but Ole Miss was ready for that. You have to question was that the game plan to oppose their pass rush or was it the game plan because we were concerned with Beck turning the ball over? Or our OL struggling in pass protection against their top guys? Either way it was a terrible matchup Saturday.
I do think the Dawgs finish 10-2. I think the home crowd and being back in Athens gets us through Saturday and the remainder of the schedule. That will get us in the playoffs and if enough pieces fall our way potentially a chance to host. We will eventually play a complete game, we are too talented not too… Let’s hope we hit our stride in post season play when we get there. Go Dawgs.
I believe we have a combination of issues going as it pertains to our O line situation.
1.) Our current O Line coach is average in development and run blocking scheme! I believe his gift is in recruiting and grinding everyday (work ethic) !
2.). Matt Luke should be ashamed of the shape he left us under his recruiting (or lack of). years. There are reasons that we have 5th year seniors playing and not many 3 and 4 year other options. And a 6’3” guard playing Left Tackle. And another guard playing right tackle. I will at least give our current O Line coach cedit with his recruiting Go back and look at Luke’s recruits. Maybe why he took some time off because he wasn’t willing to perform to Kirby’s standards. Not saying he was run off but saying he had one of two options.
As it pertains to our WR’s, I hear a lot of shit about our current wide receiver coach. Not saying it’s not deserved. But look at our recruiting in last few years at wide receivers (very average) . At least our current wide receivers coach, if everyone stays on board, will have a hell of recruiting class this year. Maybe best we have ever seen.
Bottom line is we are below average (from a Georgia talent standards) at both Offensive tackle positions and across the board at the pass catching positions. Combine that with an average at best OC, this is what we get…..
allowing folks who purchased items at the concession stand to "round up" their purchase amount and the rounded up amount is contributed to the Ole Miss NIL/collective. Do we do this in Sanford? If we don't, it needs to start on Saturday. Genius move.
