Trying to make a point to my son 😂. They are all DGD’s and we’ve been blessed with all of them but I’d love to see yalls thoughts as well as good things only that these guys did. No reason for negativity to any of them. Because without all of them, none of them would have accomplished what they did.

Yards Per Play (offense)

National ranking in offensive YPP the last 5 seasons:

2020: 34th
2021: 4th
2022: 4th
2023: 4th
2024: 48th

Going back to 2016 (Kirby's first year), 48th would be the second-worst ranking, behind only 2016. Remember how awful 2019 was with James Coley running the offense? We were 46th that year.

I would LOVE to see our success rate metrics this season compared to all other Kirby seasons. I would be stunned if it's not one of the worst two.

UGA Current Offense Stats

Total Offense: 50th
Scoring Offense: 48th
Completion percentage: 22nd
First Downs: 71st
Third down conversions: 83rd
Passing Offense: 16th
Rushing Offense: 104th
RZ Offense: 19th (scores 34/37, with a higher TD to FG ratio than most, 25 to 9.).
Sacks Allowed: 54th
Had intercepted: 120th
Team Passing Efficiency 49th

Takeaways: The stats back up what we know. We complete a high percentage of passes, but they do not translate into first downs. We are not good on 3rd down. We cannot run the ball effectively. Beck is an INT machine. Our scoring is not good, but it would be even worse if we were not doing surprisingly well in the red zone (TD's 68% of the time).

This was supposed to be "the" year- what about next year?

Yes, we can still make the playoffs, but that is far from a given, and if we do we won't go far. This year, on paper, we looked like a national championship team. The offense had the best OL and QB in the country, a deep and talented running back room, and a more than serviceable wide receiver and tight end room, even without Bowers and McConkey. The defensive front will lose just about everybody going into next year, the secondary sucks this year and we're losing our two best players (Jackson & Starks). What are we supposed to feel good about, the kicking game? Does this mean we have to wholesale clean out the roster, hit the portal, and become the next Colorado?

A Stetson story from 2021 preseason...

This was the second and final preseason scrimmage prior to the 2021 season. JT Daniels obviously took the lion share of reps that day - looked VERY in command of the O. Beck got a good number of reps at #2, and everyone commented on his arm and how well he spins it. BVG even got some reps - raw, but he could certainly run.

At the very end, in what almost seemed like token reps, Stetson comes in. Immediately starts making plays and moving offense down the field. Two straight scoring drives - a TD and FG. This was a guy who shouldn't be a factor, but the side conversations all ceased when he came in and he had everyone's attention.

You could HEAR the offense in an empty Sanford when Stetson was running it. It's like the entire unit started talking more, at a more enthusiastic volume, they moved in and out of the huddle with more pop. They even talked more shit. Again, the stadium is empty, but there was a completely different energy when Stetson was running the show that day.

When it was over, a prominent former letterman turned and posed the question, "Is Stetson our best guy?" It was brushed off, but nobody said no. In hindsight, it's always stuck with me given what transpired. Not just the question, but the memory of the energy and how it "felt" when Stetson was leading the O.

HHolland kind of alludes to this in his post this morning and you're hearing it echoed by a number of others, too. Something is amiss. It's not just Beck - the entire O seems to have regressed, and continues to. Nobody can make sense of it.

There is no dog in our offensive huddle. I know the usual suspects who roll their eyes because they either discount or don't understand intangibles effect on performance, but I'll go to my grave telling you Beck's demeanor is the emotional anchor this offense is dragging behind it. When you have our 2023 personnel, you can hide that demeanor and outman the opponent. When the talent playing field is leveled off, that's when it starts to really become a factor.

We've quickly forgotten this is exact same feeling we had prior to Bowers going off at Auburn last year. Beck was not impressing anyone. A lot of hand wringing that something was "off" with the offense.

There is absolutely zero energy or pop to this unit. Units are a mirror of their leadership. I don't care what your personality is - the QB position is a leadership position by default.

Our guy was hiding in the back of a postgame locker room speech in Jacksonville and Kirby had to call him forward to pump up his psyche. And while he was doing it, Beck sulked and hung his head in front of the entire team.

LT is struggling. A freshman RB fumbles. Your WR drops a pass. Hell, you throw another INT. Mistakes happen. But Beck's response is the same every time - walk off by himself to the bench to stare or sulk.

It's why it feels like this O is getting worse instead of better. There's no energy. There's no pop to anything they do. The body language has become a disease and I can tell you who patient 0 is.

The problem we have is Beck remains without question our best QB weapon. Until he decides to show some mettle and raise up the guys around him, though, it will continue to be this confusing regression and struggle.

When it just "feels" off and you can't identify the root cause, it's a leadership problem.

Lead, GD it.

Sorry, but while I fully acknowledge we have a plethora of issues,

the schedule, both in terms of who we play, and when and where we play them was destined to take it's toll.

I'm not using this as a be all, end all reason by any means, but it seems we all looked at the schedule and knew it was brutal, and then completely forgot about it. Travel to Texas, bye, travel to Jax, travel to Oxford.

We have to be a tired team by now.

Again, I am in no way giving anyone a pass or blaming our schedule as the sole or main reason, because we clearly have had problems since relatively early on, but it has to be a factor, especially with respect to our endurance and physicality.

Just looking at trends here... Its understood that stars don't mean everything. Some of these 5 stars contributed zero, some of the 5.6 3-Stars became starters.

Definitely trending down since 2021.... Only 2 Top 100 players and 7 top 250 from 2022-2024, while there was 6 Top 100 and 9 top 250 from 2019-2021.

Also, only signed one player rated less than 5.7 from 2019-2021.... but signed four such players from 2022-2024.

Comparing the 2019 and 2022 because both of those were first classes of these comparison groups and should be contributing heavily 3 recruiting classes (2 years) later... Keep in mind, 2 years after those classes we won a national championship in 2021 and 2 years after 2022 in 2024... well you know already.

2019 - Small class, only 3 players, but nailed it. Two of the three were huge contributors and are in the NFL now and the third, Clay Webb, transferred but is now one of the top available OL heading into the upcoming NFL draft and was on several Pre-Season All-American lists as well as pre-season watch list for the Outland and Lombardi awards.

2022 - Signed Five... three have since transferred. One of the remaining two was a legacy and our lowest ranked OL of that class (Drew Bobo)... and not to knock Bobo because he has contributed to depth and played as well as you could hope when called upon. Every team needs players like him. But every team also needs to get some highly contributing players out of five OL as well and we only got one that year, 4-star Earnest Greene.

On Tennessee QB Nico lamaleava…

“I've been seeing him all throughout the year. He's a talented quarterback. Being able to throw the ball and being able to use his legs, that's what you see in a dual quarterback at this point in time, so he's very talented.”

On Smael Mondon, Jr. returning…

“Smael's a resilient person and player. It was just a great opportunity to see him go out there. I actually shared his first snap with him. It was a full circle moment.: me coming in as a freshman, him being the guy who was starting and him finally getting back on his feet and getting the opportunity to play. It was just a great thing to see him back out there.”

On the process of overcoming a loss…

“We move on and just get ready for our next game. We're very process-oriented and that's part of the process. Just getting over that hump and moving on to the next week and what's important at hand.”

7:59 – What are your feelings on how the rush game is this season compared to others?

On schematic changes to help the offensive line…

“Trusting in fundamentals. That is what it comes down to, which is how good your fundamentals. Just going back to the basics and just try to focus on that.”

On re-watching the Ole Miss game…

“It’s a fundamental thing. Offensive line plays a lot of habits. Fundamentals are key in offensive line play. When you lack fundamentals, you lack those habits that are going to keep you on that right course during the game. It is not what you want. You got to go back to work, you got to get better, you got to get the basics of things, and just get better.”

On Smael Mondon, Jr.’s return…

“He’s so positive. Smael has had a couple of injuries now and it is easy to let that get you down and discourage you. He is so positive every time I see him and he always got a smile on his face. He has just attacked everything that has happened and everything that you got to do to get back out there.”

Random Thoughts: Long

I have long been a "trust CKS" proponent as I think it is BS to question every coaching decision he makes, especially when there are questions on decisions based on personal bias, etc. But, to each his / own in terms of their personal approach to things. That said:

- I have always felt that CMB gets more crap than he should, again based on historical bias for many. and in many cases for no reason other than it is the easy thing to bitch about. That said, the guy will never have needed support from much of the fan base regardless of what he does, including the TEAM winning a championship with him at OC. He just won't. Couple that with the fact that he seems totally paralyzed by his own schemes and bias's (see @HHolland92 post) and by trying to manage the head case that is 15 (and he is obviously trying to manage around his yips) we have a bigger issue that I thought we could get to. When a coordinator can no longer adjust (CMB seems to have regressed himself) IMO, a change is needed. I think we will see one.
- I was a wait and see on CSS as CKS deserved (IMO) the benefit of the doubt on his decision. I think the scenario has been played out and it ain't good. I would guess we see a change there. IMO, we need one.
- I do find it funny that a part of the fan base likes to bitch about CKS "hiring his buddies" but the same part of the fan base in many cases is clamoring to bring back CWM. It should just be a complaint about CMB and own it. Just sayin. But, I also do not see him coming back to take a larger role. Just doesn't seem like it is something he needs to do on a personal level. Just MO.
- While it is easy to point at one's favorite whipping coach, many tend to overlook the fact our Defense has regressed. Just fact and it is not due to the DL. CGS got outcoached bad Saturday and has other times this season. We need him to make his own adjustment, but we damn sure need something done in the secondary. I will be surprised if we do not see a change somewhere on Defense.
- I have also been one to support the fact our system and approach at WR has worked for championships, and it has. Something is amiss there and we have to get more explosive IMO. The concern about lack of separation is actually getting worse versus better. While some might be scheming, the reality is we do not have experienced separation type talent at the position. Even though we have seen the dropsies, I would be surprised if CJC moves on as he seems to be the key to several of our upcoming better talented recruits, who we need badly.
-Overall, we are still in a spot that most every program in the country would trade places with and we still seem to have one of the most volatile fan bases in college football. Kinda sad when you think about. Again, JMO.
- Lastly, I have stated before, I am not a big stadium experience, concessions quality guy. I go to games to watch football, and the rest it gravy. That said, we have to do something different. After what I saw in Tusky this year and Saturday in Oxford, there is ZERO reason we have not upped our approach to the experience. It matters, and hell, it is fun.
