It is Monday morning ...

Can anyone give a solid reason why Stacy Searels still has a job? That was the most pathetic line play I've ever seen. They aren't our most talented group to begin with but they are better than this and have regressed as the season has gone by. Just awful effort Saturday.

Bobo needs to go after the season but the Vent could coach this OL by Zoom call better than Searels is.

Scheming our players open versus depending on talent..

Am I crazy our does Bobo's offense rely more on having more talent than it does on deception and out scheming teams? I just can't believe that with the guys we have on offense we can't be more productive. Its not like we went to the bargain bin for most of these kids. The other big boys recruited most of them too. How are smaller schools with prolific offenses able to do it? It has to be scheme right? We just seem so predictable and plodding on offense. Hell, even on the late drive that Beck threw the pick. what was it like 13-14 plays? and we still weren't close to scoring. I just don't get it. Pair our talent with a great mind (Monken) and you would see a different team imo.

Thoughts on Ole Miss, Because You Need Another Random Venter's Opinion in Your Life...

Haven't done one of these in a while (as if anyone noticed).

Start with a couple of broader points. First, we all know the adage that things are rarely as good or as bad as they seem. Take some solace in that (not much, but a little). Ole Miss is over the moon today, as is Bama, but their fanbase was probably even lower than we are now after a some of their atrocious losses.

Secondly, F this schedule of ours. I'll get into our myriad of issues in a moment, but setting aside the straight up difficulty of our schedule in terms of who we play, the amount of travel, both in terms of number of trips and distance, has got to be wearing on us. 3 true home games through 9, and the number of away from home games in succession is just brutal. I sure would've loved to like Oregon and get Maryland at home yesterday, for example. Thankfully, we're in the friendly confines from here on out.

Starting with the offense, I am not a Bobo hater. I think, though, that he is not our OC because Kirby thinks he's the best OC available nationwide. He was hired because Kirby knows and trusts him, and because he spent time under Monken, and I think there was a sense he could keep the overall system going. I don't think Bobo is bad by any means, but definitely time to give a long hard look around to see if we can upgrade (heard Buster Faulkner's name bandied about from some here).

Having said that, it's damn near impossible to scheme around the woeful O-Line play, not to mention drops and piss poor execution. Credit to Ole Miss, as their pass rush has given pretty much everybody fits this year, but it was clear we could not block them, particularly on the edges. Which brings us to the next completely unoriginal question. Searels?

When it comes to position coaches, if the unit is not performing well, I try to take the approach of, "What could the coach be doing that is so incredibly different than every other (O-Line) coach out there?" In other words, I can't imagine Searels is doing or not doing pretty much the same thing that every other experienced O-Line coach does 99% of the time. But, the buck stops with him, and we cannot hope to play winning offensive football given what we saw yesterday in both the run and pass blocking game, as well as the poor run blocking we've seen pretty much all year.

I thought Beck definitely made some better decisions yesterday. He hardly played like a superstar, but again, his receivers almost never helped him out, and the Ole Miss defensive front made it nearly impossible for him to get in a consistent rhythm.

I was screaming at the TV during our long 4th quarter drive that ended with 0 points. I wasn't expecting us to go full on hurry-up, but there was absolutely no urgency, given we were down 2 scores. We operated as if we were up two scores. Very odd.

Defensively, the pass rush absolutely disappeared after Ole Miss' first series. Maybe Brent and Dayne or others can illustrate if they adjusted, or if we just got handled after that first series. I know we started playing bend don't break, though, as we started dropping 7. Frustratingly, they still managed to have guys wide ass open. Way too many uncontested throws/completions. Schumann was on everyone's 'hot board' to be the next HC from the Kirby tree. I'm not saying that's over with, but he certainly hasn't improved his stock this year. Very up and down. That said, the defense more less kept us in the game, even though we gave up too many yards and first downs.

RB room is completely decimated. Etienne obviously gave us what he could. Frazier clearly has ball security issues, and Cash Jones is a great supplemental piece, but not an every down back.

Arian Smith wore the wrong shoes yesterday in the rain.

We definitely had our share of lucky breaks, particularly with unnecessary penalties by Ole Miss to extend a couple of our drives. But, they got that tipped pass that went to an unintended target on their 2nd series, and another that was just out of reach of Jalon Walker for an interception at mid field. When they tipped some of our passes, it was completely bad news. Just the way it goes sometimes. We had some potential big hitters on offense if the line performed better and they don't deflect those passes.

I certainly could go on and on, and nothing here that hasn't been said by one or more people over the last 12 hours.

I'd be lying if I said I was optimistic about our chances to make a run in the playoffs even if we do get there. But, again, outside of Oregon, there are really no teams out there that are feeling good now who were feeling really terrible earlier this year, if that makes sense.

I'm just not sure what we're going to be able to do at this point, particularly on offense, to get things going.

Next Saturday is our de facto wildcard game. Win, and we're most likely in (GT may not be a 'given', but certainly like our chances). Lose, and the season is over, and Kirby will get a head start on seeing what moves he needs to make in the off season.

This team is not great and at at times painful to watch, but how many teams would be sitting at 7-2 after playing our schedule?

At Bama, Texas and Ole Miss. We also had at the time a top team in Clemson who still has a chance to win the ACC. We have the best win in the country going on the road and beating Texas.

I think we have to put things into perspective. It was a gauntlet.

We are missing a first team All American OL leader, one of the top guys with our defense in Mondon, and our most skilled WR in Young. If we get those guys back the team will look different. Not to mention Mykel Williams is at about 20%.

I still take this average team on a neutral site over almost any team in the country besides Oregon and Ohio St and if the ball bounces the right way, we have a chance to beat them.

With all of that being said I get it, we got absolutely dominated tonight. The score was not an indication as to how badly we got smacked around.

I appreciate the diversity of comments and opinions on this page.

I have been a Gold member for so many years, I've lost count.

Just like many of you, my emotions run high after a game like Saturday's.

Venting our frustrations can be a good thing.
Let us remember to be civil, the players are human, and it's only a game.
I realize many men and women on this page played competitive sports, and your input is valuable to us.
I played soccer on a few amateur teams, so I missed the real game day experience (except when our team played the inmates at the Federal Pen in Atlanta, a good fun game).

We all have our opinions, it's good to disagree but please, we are on the same team.

3-0

Go 3-0 the next 3 weeks and use the break before round 1 of the CFP to TRY to clean up some issues and make a run.

Going into the year if you had told this board we just needed to go 3-0 at home vs Tenn, UMass, and GT and we're set to make the CFP I think we'd take it.

Are we 21 or 22 dominant? No. But nobody else is either. Let's get to the CFP and let the chips fall where they may.

Sanford needs to be hell for the Vols this weekend.

Edit: and yes I know plenty will say we're not winning anything with Bobo/CSS. Leave that shit elsewhere.

Our Offense

I see people with agendas really trying to point out the weaknesses of one player/group/coach on offense as the cause of our problems there.

Let’s start from the top. Coach Bobo I think has been ok to good with game planning and play calling. He had been poor as the coach responsible for the execution of our offense. Two different but related elements of his job.

At QB Beck runs the gamut of crazy good to boneheaded from game to game, series to series and play to play. I do believe he gives us the best chance to succeed the rest of the season and in the playoffs should we get there. That said, his confidence is rattled and he needs to step up mentally to get us there.

The running game is my biggest concern. We are decimated with injuries in our RB room but our OL and TEs have significantly regressed in terms of run blocking. Injuries and continuity affect that but still simply not to the standard of UGA football.

We have a scheme/plan that utilizes receiver depth to be effective. Unfortunately that depth is not where it normally is due to boneheaded off-field behavior and injuries. We are leaning on role player level talents to be go to guys. And they are (like the rest of the offense) maddeningly inconsistent.

Even the TE room…arguably to most consistent/best performing group on our team in recent years…is inconsistent. Blocking there is abhorrent, receiving not much better.

Bottom line is all these groups can be good and have been good…at times. They also have been really bad and can be bad…At times. The issue is that we HAVE to find the right combinations of scheme, preparation and execution to get us playing more consistently. I still believe IF we can get through this weekend and get 3-4 key guys healthy we can be a factor in the playoffs.

All this being said, I think we see some staff changes on that side of the ball and it would not surprise me to see some heavy portal action this off season.

3 Possible quick fixes for the option

1.) Try somebody else at left tackle. I don't care if it means moving a guard to tackle, trying Hughley or Witherspoon, or playing a freshman, but Greene is not athletic enough to handle Pearce. I'd also probably play Freeling over Truss.

2.) No more run/pass option, everybody knows Beck is not running the ball. Play out of the pistol the whole game.

3.) Play Bell, Lovett, and Smith the whole game at wide receiver, it's all we got. Humphrey can't be counted on, he'll drop one and cost us a series.

The reason our offense is predictable is that Bobo is always trying to get to third and short

Bobo schemes to try to get 10 yards in three plays. First down, try to get 4-5 yards with a run up the middle or a screen. Second and long means a run or screen because we need to get to third and manageable.

The offense is not designed to be dynamic. Kiffin was ripping downfield passes while we tried to set a record for screens in a game.

The Ole Miss defense knew that. They were sitting on those short plays.

We did nothing to change. We were shut down because we played into their hands.

One question, did we even attempt a pass yesterday that traveled over 20 yards in the air downfield? I do not recall one.

Regarding Mike Bobo….

Despite all the criticism (and some of it is definitely warranted) - who can he really trust on offense to build his game plan/play calling around? Carson Beck? WRs? TEs? Running game? And it looks like he can no longer trust the defense to make key stops when needed (and the defense is arguably healthier than they have been since the Clempson game).

My feelings to this point...

I am still very high on our talent and depth. Asa is as good as advertised and a really smart player for a frosh. His stroke is good and I believe his 3's will improve as the season moves on. Dylan, as Nola pointed out, still needs work as a big, let alone playing wing. He will better as he matures. Blue is a really tough kid, with a nose for the ball. His D is still average at best, but he busts his tail. He needs to work more to get open though. Silas is Silas, just overall better, and his stroke is much better. I'd like to see us work isolations on the low block for RJ some. I think he can get 10 ppg. Cyril. like I mentioned after the first game has an eye for the open man and make nice passes. He will get better scoring as he settles in. I love Laffew. He's a baller for sure and it was great to see Tyrin drain some 3s. If two out of he, Blue and Dakota are making most games we'll be fine, especially if Asa and even Dylan find their strokes. We are not going to lose because of rebounding this year, which is huge. If we average 4-5 blocks per game that is 2-3 less buckets for the opposition. The Serb has game and will make contributions in several areas. He works hard on D, but is a work in progress. Abson is solid off the bench and man I can't wait to see Montgomery play. We are going to be so much better after fifteen games or so.

Antonio, I have an idea to help Carson get the snakes out his head and to restore his in-game confidence that I would like for you to pass along to

Kirbs at the next press conference. Go back to signaling the plays in. And, instead of using it for play calling purposes, use the speaker in Carson's helmet to offer soothing, meditative, confidence-inspiring words of encouragement. You know, almost like those found on the wrapper of a Hall's cough drop. Some suggestions.....

* Hot, Interweb influencers await you, Carson
* Lambos for touchdowns
* Eye black is sexy
* You are a Dawg Vent god, Carson
* DonutDawg's left nut is the prize

Cloud his mind with the power of positive thinking and we will all witness the transformation unfold in front of us.

Thank you, Antonio, for your contribution in helping to restore glory for the Dogs of Georgia.
