I feel guilty expressing joy for surviving last Saturday of UGA football with no TV. But it sounds like that was a good one to miss.
Our 20 home development we live in, on Butler Mountain just South of Asheville, only had about a dozen trees down across our road that we cleared. But no power, water, cell service, phone service, and internet. Power came back on after 5 days to get our well pumps going. Hot showers! We still had no phone and internet service, so to avoid missing a 2nd football Saturday, more guilt for my "shallow needs", I took the scary trip down our mountain (see link), to the devastation below, to the closest Home Depot to buy a Starlink System. $300 ($200 disaster discount from $500), and 1st month free for disaster zone residences. After that, $120/mo. We were paying AT&T $100/mo. for a landline phone and 5Mbps copper wire internet. With the lousy service we have gotten from AT&T over the years, it might be months to get internet restored. I could have missed the whole 2024 football season. More survivors guilt for my "shallow needs", while 10's of thousands down below have lost their homes, businesses, and loved ones.
