The last time we won in the state of Texas…

The 1984 Cotton Bowl. I’m hoping for similar results.

If Georgia executes and wins the turnover battle then we will win. And I think that’s what will happen. I think Georgia finally plays a full game .
Like Vince Dooley used to say… Keep it close and find a way to win in the fourth quarter
And I believe that is exactly what Georgia will do

One other Texas film note

If I'm a big-time recruit as an edge defender (e.g., Colin Simmons), I can see why a recruit would choose Texas over Georgia most every time.

Primarily a 4-down front team that just lets the edge guys attack and play. Lot of freedom as rushers.

Simmons in his first 6 games:
150 snaps
89.0 overall grade
15 total QB pressures, inc. 4 sacks.

By comparison the 3 top-50 edge defenders UGA recruited in the ‘23 class (MPemba, Wilson, Harris) have 34 total QB pressures, inc 2 sacks, over the last 2 years.

This week’s 3-2-1 is brought to you by fall finally hitting Georgia and quarter zip season arriving for all us pasty, mediocre white dudes. This is our time to shine, fellas. Let’s get after it.

1. Texas helped build our dynasty. It’s New Years 2019. I’m in NoLa stuffed on etouffe and Hurricanes from Pat O’s. The wife is mad because maybe I came on a little too strong with the waitress at Jacque Imo’s. We’ve come off a national championship game the year before and we’ve gone 11-2 and are in the Sugar Bowl. Several guys opt out but make the trip and, reportedly, some were a distraction (particularly one DB making it rain at Harrah’s supposedly). Fast forward to the game, and we just flat weren’t competitive in a closer-than-the-score-looked 28-21 loss. The next year, we’re in a similar situation and Kirby makes a choice: if you ain’t playin’; you’re stayin’. The team comes out and punches Baylor in the mouth and probably plays the most complete game we played in the 2019 season. That set us up for a run where we’ve lost one (1) game to a team not named Bama since 2020 began. The lessons learned against Texas helped make us who we are now. (Also, despite reports at the time, Texas was not “back”).

2. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Let’s face it: Texas has looked the part this year of #1. They’re undefeated and they’ve handled business. There’s just one problem: their schedule is easier than a girl who tells you “I don’t usually do this sort of thing.” It’s Charmin soft. Their best wins are against a Michigan team that doesn’t even throw the ball and an Oklahoma team that wishes it could but doesn’t have any healthy receivers. Saturday night is by far their biggest test. The Dawgs showed in Tuscaloosa they can take a punch and get off the mat. Can Texas take a punch from the Dawgs?

2 questions

1. Who are the real 2024 Dawgs? Is it the team that showed up for the second half of the Clemson and Bama games? Or is it the team that showed up in the second half last week and screwed around with State? On the other hand…

2. Is one bad half clouding our perception of this team? What if we don’t spot Bama 28? What if we pick off that last pass to the 17 year old instead of him scoring? How do we feel about this team then? We’d be a unanimous #1 and everyone would brush off the Kentucky game as road jitters and the second half of State as practice the way LSU 2022 was in the second half. Let’s face it - our win against Clemson looks better every week. Auburn should have rolled into Athens undefeated and they got dominated on a day the stadium was so dead it made Kirby mad. The State game was never in doubt. Maybe a bad half - or really a bad quarter - of football has soured us all on a team that is the 1st or 2nd most talented in the country and has the tools to make it 3 out of 4 natties.

1 prediction

It’s a Time to Kill and The sad eyes of Texas will be upon the Longhorns on Saturday as the Dawgs daze and confuse the home team by lighting up the scoreboard as the Million Dollar Man John Anthony watches the point spread go up in a smoke. HORNS DOWN

I've never once trashed Bobo... but his predictability is becoming a meme again with other fanbases...

There are times when casuals have a better/more honest grasp on people than those with an in depth knowledge. I've watched three games with several casuals this year and they independently, in a vacuum, without any influence or knowledge of what others say, are telegraphing what Bobo is going to call and bitching about his predictability. And I haven't seen him put together anything impressive except for a half where moving the ball required converting 4th down conversions and airing it out in a desperation situation.

IDK. My silent complaint about Bobo in the past is that he turtles up and gets too conservative when things aren't ideal. Maybe he hasn't felt comfortable most of the year because casuals can see what I silently wonder to myself at times like this.

Yeah, he can make an offense hum with great parts... but I've always had questions about whether not he could scheme up something with good but not great pieces as the years have gone by. He was flat out below average at Aub and SC with a lot of workable parts.

My Friday night in downtown Austin experience

1) The Formula 1 racing fans have TAKEN OVER AUSTIN!! I'd love to say there was red & black everywhere but in the admittingly limited area I traveled and dined there was not so much as burnt orange or any college football "feel" but F1 fans everywhere!!! I'm sure I just didn't know where to go to find fellow Dawgs.

2) Speaking of which, where can I find fellow Dawgs tailgating tomorrow? I have parking pass in East Campus Deck next to their baseball field (which was pretty impressive, btw). Tomorrow is gonna be a long day, so we'd love to link up with some friendlies in the afternoon. Feel free to reply of DM me

This team lacks confidence...

This team simply needs a fast start to build confidence. We may not have the headliners we've had, but I continue to dismiss the idea that we don't have good WR and CB. We absolutely do on both accounts. I'm tired of poor mouthing these positions as if they're lost causes when they're not.

CB is a confidence position. Everyone in the country wanted Everette and Humphrey and Harris and Robinson. They're elite talents who should all eventually play on Sundays. They simply aren't playing with any confidence right now. That's why Ellis has stood out - people recognize a swagger with him. Still, though, ER1 is a dog barking at the bear because he doesn't realize the bear can kill him. That can benefit a true freshman, though. It can also be contagious in a huddle.

We are not slow on D - we run like deer across the board. We are PLAYING slow. That slowness is indecision, slow diagnosis, not trusting our eyes - all confidence issues.

28-0 unraveled quickly and we looked passive as a team. Lack of confidence. We only started playing loose when it appeared we no longer had anything to lose.

Body language. Lack of excitement. Lack of leadership. All can be drawn back to lack of confidence.

I do not think this is a 2021/22 squad, but I absolutely believe this team can win the NC this year. No question.

Confidence is a funny thing. It's fragile. It can put reigns on talented teams. But when a team is infused with a little bit of it, it can snowball quickly and turn a plodding group into a dominant force.

CREATE confidence early. Scheme aggressively. If it backfires, so be it. I still love the Bama gameplan - don't abandon that approach just because it didn't work in Tuscaloosa. Playing conservatively only fuels what is holding us back. Aggression is what this team desperately needs.

CUT IT LOOSE.

Curtis decomitment thoughts

I said this to someone the other day. Kirby would love to have a proven starter step in next year. Guys in the program now will get first shot, but WHAT IF he told Raiola to not sit this year behind Beck…got to Nebraska and get a year playing and Beck graduates, transfer back. With the open portal now…no since in a freshman sitting when you can play a year and then transfer after a SR or draft eligible JR leaves. Just a thought…..carry on
