Put Up or Shut Up Week.

Lose this week and our shot at the SEC Championship is likely done.

Lose this week and we will be ridiculed for the rest of the year, they’ll say we lost to the only two teams worth a crap (they already don’t recognize the win over Clemson).

The hallmark of Kirby Smart teams in his career, outside of games against Bama, was to do our most evil and demoralizing work against the top teams we play when everyone is doubting us. Will this team show up? Do they have the leaders to show up? Are they man enough to show up? If they show up like against Bama, then no. If we show up like last half against Bama and against Clemson, then we’ll destroy them. The real Georgia is showing up this week, whether we like it or not.

Leadership on this team

I just don't see it. We've had strong leaders the last several years especially in 21 and 22. It just seems like this team is void of it on both sides of the ball. I think that in part has a direct correlation with our undisciplined play.

Just think of the leaders thos other teams had. Yes, a lot of this is coaching but I know Kirby constantly tries to build leadership with his programs but you just don't see a Nakobe Dean or a Nolan Smith anywhere.

It maybe too late in the season to develop that but I think that void is a huge problem for us.

I did see Frazier be a leader in thr huddle on the last drive that we had goal to go. He was in thr middle of the huddle rallying the troops.

Need some people to step up this week in practice.

Few thoughts now that I’m back home from Athens

I’ll start with offense. Overall it was a good game. We ran well and passed well. Beck had two INT’s, but one was a tipped ball and one was a terrible throw when we had a chance to put the game away. Still way too many drops. Started to see more cohesion on offense as opposed to a spattering of random plays, and I think Bobo is realizing if we are going to win it’s going to be on Becks arm. I’ll give credit, the offensive game plan was good. We did miss some open WR’s and instead opted for riskier throws. Lots of explosive plays. I know it’s easier to see missed blocks than made blocks, but our TE’s and WR’s still don’t seem to be blocking well on the edge.

Defensively I was very perplexed by the game plan. They were getting the ball out quickly, and trying to establish the run. While we were stuffing the run, we were leaving our corners on islands and they were getting burned. Their QB threw a much better deep ball then I thought he could, but didn’t seem to adjust even though they weren’t running well. We have a chance to be elite up front, but we have to have Mykell and Walker in the game at the same time. Those two can get pressure, run with any QB, and are very good against the run. Those two allow us to get pressure without blitzing and that’s what we desperately need right now. I don’t know how long Mondon is out, but we really need him back. Don’t know what’s going on with CJ, but he seems to have regressed a little after a strong start. Harris and Everette struggle in man coverage. If we are going to run man then it’s time for Robinson to sink or swim. He looked better than anyone not named Starks in coverage although it was a much more limited sample size.

Honest conversation about UGA,TX

First sorry about the long nature of the post, just some thoughts that I wanted to put out.

This post isnt about convincing you UGA will win or how great we but instead is about stating some truths that we all know to be fact about college football as it relates to this game:

-You have to have a certain talent level to have the opportunity to compete. Let’s state the obvious, Texas and UGA have PREMIER rosters. Very little difference. Has been and was always going to be a war between the 2 programs.
-schedules aren’t equal and records are not indicative of team strength. When teams are on equal footing talent wise, its very easy to seek validation for your program or to invalidate an opponent by being results based. The problem with being results based in college football is it’s not apples to apples. Many people are quick to praise Texas and bash UGA based on surface level statistics and record. If you were only presented this information with no other context, would you feel confident to definitively say you know what the team’s strength is?

Offenses faced
Colorado St-86
Michigan-119
UTSA-67
Miss St-78 (Van Buren first start)
ULM-127
OU-125

Defenses faced
Colorado St-104
Michigan-44
UTSA-85
Miss St-124
ULM-53
OU-48

I would imagine that other than to say youd expect them to do very well, you couldnt take much from the actual performances because of the poor quality of offenses. On the flip side, if you were presented this info, you would most likely draw that its been a much tougher road and may have even been a few bumps in the road but for the right team, could strengthen them and prepare them for the future. Would also have to assume the team is pretty good to have any real success:

Offenses faced
Clemson-10
Alabama-33
Auburn-35
Miss St-78
Kentucky-124

Defenses faced:
Kentucky-4
Auburn-47
Alabama-55
Clemson-60
Miss St-124

-You have to have an offense to be successful in the sport. Both of these teams have the horses to put up points. Thats not the question. The point in this matchup is that having to play a team with no offense changes your entire demeanor and approach to the game. The reality is that Texas has played such poor offenses that they have been able to play with no fear. Everything gets a lot tighter when you have to potentially trade shot for shot. We have seen UGA do it. No one can say if Texas has that capability until they are put in that spot.
-increasing levels of competition can cause the crow bar in the bike wheel phenomenon. TN is a case and point what I am describing. Were the #1 statistical offense and defense in the country prior to SEC play starting. The reality is, eventually, you hit a freeze point where teams are on equal footing with you. The jump up in the level of competition from what Texas has played to what they will get saturday isnt even on the same planet. Georgia has played teams in that stratosphere and has proven they meet the freeze point. Time will tell if Texas does.

The bottom line in this specific matchup is that no one knows anything about Texas. They replaced a ton from the offense last year, replacing key guys on defense, finished #124 in passing yards allowed last year, and Ewers is coming back from injury. UGA on the other hand has been tested, has played in a hostile environment, has proven they have an elite offense, and has the history to show only 1 program has gotten the best of them since November 2020. Draw any conclusion that you’d like about the lull moments this season because I get. However, this season isnt about style points, its just about winning because the resume will speak for itself. Someone with kirby’s success and a program with as much talent is not going to overlook this Texas game and come unprepared.

Help me understand re: CWM

I’ve been reading on here that the “loss of Coach Muschamp is the single biggest reason for our defensive woes”. For weeks.

How is this possible? He coaches every single day at practice, no?

Which means he is also intimately involved in the schemes and calls, no?

It’s not like Coach Schu just goes off script on Saturdays and makes stuff up. It’s not like Kirby isn’t listening to the calls and/or could immediately provide feedback and direction.

I’m not saying I’m right but I am clearly confused on how CWM’s absence on Saturday is some great and mysterious cause and effect. Please help educate me. Because it does not make sense to me. 🤷‍♂️

STONE COLD LOCKS OF THE WEEK

There are several certainties in life that are as true as the Bible:

Blue Plate mayo is head and shoulders above the other brands

Taking a big grumpy in the handicap stall is pure, unadulterated relaxation.

Patrick Reed is the most naturally talented golfer on Earth.

The Stone Cold Locks this week going 3-0.

Let’s get it!!

Mississippi State +34 @ UGA - Even when capable, Kirby doesn’t put beat downs on people often. Im not sure we are even capable though. Dawgs on top but Dogs cover.

LSU +3.5 vs. OLE Miss - I think LSU wins outright. LSU is flying way under the radar. Hostile environments kill HUNH offenses. Brian Kelly rolls.

OU +15 vs Texas - I think Texas wins but it’s going to be a fight. OUs defense isn’t bad and they finally got rid of that crippled that was starting at QB

Miss State rewatch notes

1. # 11 was more disruptive in running plays, especially early.
2. # 1 and # 3 left some yards on field by turning it out instead of staying with hole inside.
3. Actually saw # 7 blocking fairly solid on perimeters
4. Robinson was improving between tackles before his injury, hate it for# 22
5. # 32 and #10 other than their foolish penalties played really well.
7. # 74 played solid at center
8. # 24 actually covered well yesterday 1 on 1. Best coverage he has had all day
9. Interior DL played VERY well overall against the run and we played a ton of them. 94 played some good snaps
10. When you trip up the punt returner on a fair catch it is normally a penalty
11. Stinch is a DGD, but he made some odd comments yesterday. Call out # 11 and # 71 and not sure he was correct on either
12. Of the 7 or 8 OL we play, all play about same. Some good, some average- depends on play.
13. Thought the pass interference on # 18 was probably correct call but man I saw a lot of contact on other side that wasn’t called
14. Miss State OL held more than any team we have played and only got called a few times.
15. We played 3 safties, 3 corners and 2 strong safeties. Think the best combination might be # 4 and # 17 at safety; # 24 playing slot corner and whoever the best 2 corners that practice this week.
16. We miss # 2 in rotation at LB; # 5 had a rough day.
17. # 6 and # 11 dropped catachable passes on only possession we had to punt
18. So they tackle Dawkins, throw a penalty and pick it up say no penalty.
19. Don’t think we say # 7 at corner much after he got beat deep.

A bad face mask penalty and a horrid throw by Beck turned a cakewalk (24 point win) into a 10 point victory

Insider Note Quick note on FSU WR commit CJ Wiley

Getting anything out of Wiley is tough, to say the least. He said he really enjoyed his visit to Georgia last week. He followed that up with he is still committed to Florida State. Novell was there on the sidelines and flew a yellow helicopter in. He said it was cool that he was there.

Outside of that, he said Auburn, Colorado, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and LSU are still the schools coming hard. When asked if he would visit any of the others again, he said he didn’t know, maybe. When asked if he had plans to visit Florida State again, he said he did not.

He said he and James Coley talk about twice a week and his main pitch is that Georgia is still looking for that bigger wide receiver and they want him to be the guy. He said he also talks to Kirby Smart but followed up with, we do not talk everyday or anything like that.

Fwiw, from talking to sources I really like where Georgia sits in this one right now coming off the visit last weekend. I would be surprised if he isn’t in Athens at least one more time before Early Signing Day.

Get Muschamp to be more involved

I know that he wanted to take time off and so he demoted himself, but maybe we could convince him to ramp up his involvement. Schumann is in over his head, and Kirby is busy being the HC. Our defense, especially the secondary seems confused and unmotivated. Muschamp may have failed as a HC, but he was always a good coordinator, and he also knows how to chew somebodies ass out. Sometimes players need to fear their coach and I don't think any of them fear Schumann. Otherwise, Wilson would have never pushed the MSU QB down well after the play was over, which led to an MSU score. Chambliss has twice this season grabbed a QB's facemask and held on. In making a tackle your hand can accidently graze a face mask, but when you hold on until you rip the helmet off the players head, that is intentional and beyond stupid. Also, if you'll notice, when a player needs a good ass chewin its always Kirby, never Schuman. Schumann would make a much better analyst, where he can just tinker with X's and O's.
