I just saw this comment yesterday (it is an old one from LawrenceO'Donnell). Thought about everyone here who love to throw out the word "liberal".

"What did liberals do that was so offensive to the Republican Party?

I'll tell you what they did.
Liberals got women the right to vote. Liberals got African-Americans the right to vote.
Liberals created Social Security and lifted millions of elderly people out of poverty. Liberals ended segregation.
Liberals passed the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act.
Liberals created Medicare.
Liberals passed the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water act.

What did conservatives do? They opposed them on every one of those things, EVERYONE.

So when you try to hurl that label at my feet, ‘liberal,' as if it were something to be ashamed of, something dirty, something to run away from, it won't work, because I will pick up that label and I will wear it as a badge of honor."

By that definition, I guess I am a liberal……it’s the extremes that I take issue with. They are on both sides.

Guess you have to choose what is most important to you, the party that best fits and does the least damage.

That is certainly correct.

We need both sides to really get together. Stop fighting. Sit down down to help each other with the extremes that seems to be the "everyday talking points"

This is not your father or grandfather’s Democrat liberal party. My late dad was raised in the 1940-1950’s and was a lifelong democrat, the party of the working class at the time. He voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 after realizing that the democrat party had left him and all that he believed in.

The media and politicians are playing them, you need to start with them first…..good luck with that.

The people??….good luck with that too.
Most will believe what they choose to believe.

Until you get the media & politicians straight…..nothing of any real significance happens.

“Same as it ever was”

Nice video. I had already seen that one. One of my favorites too..

Definitely understand the movement of the voting blocks and how they have changed over the years.

I try not to worry too much about R or D and follow the people.

Example- Gov George Wallace was Democrat. Would you consider him a conservative or a liberal?

Listen- we, the people have the power. We just have to stop all the fighting and realize we are more alike that different.

And this is no disrespect to your father sir. Wanted to make that clear first. Just making a statement.

But your father could have just very well been apart of the migration who left BECAUSE of those polices. Which unfortunately, happened a lot.

No different than the Gov. George Wallace (D) era when many Democrats started voting Republican because of those said polices.

In fact- I think we are seeing the "modern day" version of this right now as many are leaving the Democratic Party over the LGBTQ stuff currently.

My dad joined the Marines at 17. Served his 4 years and left the military. Paid his way through college (first in his family) and went back into the marines as an officer. Rose to a full colonel and was 1 of 6 marines invited to the Army War College in Carlisle PA. It was there he learned the truth about the 2 parties and became a Republican. Never liked my dad but respected the hell out him.

True. Tell everyone you know to cancel their news feeds and stop watching tv news. If everyone did that, people may start thinking again.

Media is the big one. They’re incentivized on both sides to lie and exaggerate and cover up anything that doesn’t fit the narrative for their sides. Problem right now is most are trending left leaning and top that with YouTube and Google helping out in covering stuff up it becomes impossible to find impartial news that cover politics and its leading to radicalization.

Agree full heartedly. I have lots of buddies on both sides of the isle. It’s not impossible to have good discussions on politics… if you focus on this issues individually. What’s happening though is it’s become smear campaigns where if you’re Republican you’re a white nationalist racist second coming of Hitler, if you’re Democrat you’re a Anti-Semitic Socialist Communist second coming of Stalin.

It’s why I really don’t like how our two party system is set up because there’s always a issue where you can accuse and pivot with each other where it’s not a debate it’s a race to the bottom of who’s the worst and not who’s the best. It’s easy to get lost in it all hell I’ve done it lately with how pissed I’ve been with the assassination attempt and the subterfuge of the democratic process with Harris and Biden. It takes a lot of patience and choosing your battles and figuring out who wants to have intelligent conversations and willing to be self reflective and who is just looking to defend their party by any means necessary. And it’s hard to do.

Conservatives won two world wars.

It is a fact that black men fought in both World War I and World War II.

Are you saying those men were conservatives or that they didn't fight and help win the war?

What you said is sooooooo far beyond "facts" that I should have let it go.... I just can't stand stupidity though.

I like that...lol

Problem is today's society as a whole is dumper than a pile of bricks.

Well, you are almost half right. Black men did contribute and in both of those wars. The problem is that Black people voted mostly Republican until after the war and really didn't switch to being Democrat until LBJ.

Again- extreme talking points. Just like I stated earlier in this thread.

No one is perfect. I will never believe that.

So would men going into women’s restrooms, men in women’s sports and illegal immigration be some of that??

Be more specific if not….

Those are certainly liberal takes from today. They are the extremes, but certainly a position that some of the Left is embracing.

You seem like a really good guy. I don’t have issues with liberals. Most of what you listed was before half of us were born. If it was the same right now, I would be a liberal myself. I really don’t want to go and name all the things they are responsible for today. It makes guys like bill Maher who I call a true old school liberal shudder.

People are embarrassed to admit it. That is just a fact. I don’t know why. I don’t personally dislike any liberal on the board. Even will I would buy a beer. I would buy sho a beer and thank him for his service. Celtic, nice. I would name others, but they won’t go there and admit it.

I used to be more middle leaning for sure. Liberals have gone too far left. Way too far. Way, way, way too far. Progressiveness is good in ways to move the country into some evolution but not all of these ideas are good. And way more are bad. Which is why imo we have the weird polling right now. Most democrats benefitted absolutely zero from this admin. They governed for 25 percent of the population. They claim the right has moved right. That is rubbish. We are hanging onto now for 8 years a former Democrat who damn sure governed from the middle. Their motto is come one come all to the rallies. I think the country needs to move more towards the middle for sure. That is not what the liberal movement is about right now. Not even close. That is why it has become embarrassing to admit you are one.

Well said..

Those are certainly liberal takes from today. They are the extremes, but certainly a position that some of the Left is embracing.
Here is another example. Megan Fox. Card carrying liberal. Raising her children. Three sons in a gender less home. Sounds like utopia for the liberals. All three kids have decided they are trans and should be women. They were kids. Do you honestly believe she went 0-3. I get it if you are an adult and you don’t feel right in your body, but you as a non liberal either believe this to be true or be cancelled. Period. It is a gosh damn badge of honor to show people how far left of oblivion you can go now amongst liberals. Who can be more ridiculous.

Wallace and LBJ were both pretty racist. but that isn't why black voters moved to Democrat party.

Going back to the original argument, during the WW1 & 2 the entire country was much more Conservative. Democrats from that era would mostly identify with the Republicans today. There were progressives back then but it was a minority and had little influence in the Democrat party. Not the same today. Of course, Woodrow Wilson was progressive but he lead us right into the great depression and was a huge white supremacist.
