Disappointed with tonight, and with many aspects of the season…

But with the schedule and injury adversity we faced, and how we fought so hard so many times to scrap and claw our way to wins…

I still am proud of the team. Not letting the last game ruin my memories of the Texas, Clemson and Tennessee games, so many awesome plays, the OT victories, a freaking league championship, etc.

Lots to fix and address, and I still believe Kirby is the guy to do it…but he was overwhelmed with so many distractions (off field, on field, family health issues, terror attacks). It was about has uphill a climb as you can put in front of a team and he still had them fighting the whole way.

Y’all continue bitching and moaning about coaches and players and NIL and whatever, that’s what this board is for. And much of it is correct. But I hope you don’t bury the season as a “failure” or forget about it because while we didn’t get to watch domination, we got to see a lot of heart and it’s one of the things I love most about supporting the program.

First, why was our running game so bad this year? East to just blame Bobo/Searels, but is that really the full story? Is it a talent issue? Injuries? Or is it more on the RBs than we think? Etienne and Frazier seem to be top end talents, but most of the time were bottled up. It’s very weird if you look at the drop off in per game yardage. How do you fix this?

Also, why did we have so many effort issues this year? Why did we look uninterested and not as hungry in many games? Why the slow starts, missed tackles, and dropped passes? What changed? Simply the wear and tear of an insanely hard schedule? Team leadership? What’s the impact of coaching here? At the same time, we were extremely resilient and able to “turn it on” when needed in many games. How can we improve our effort and consistency next year? What does this involve that was missing this year?

Finally, who is our game breaker at every position next year? We have to have one, whether through development, recruiting, or the portal. In 2021, we had at least one difference maker at every single position. As well as we’ve recruited, it seems crazy that our roster feels somehow devoid of top end talent at key positions like OL, DL, WR, TE, S, CB.

Kirby is an elite coach. One of the best if not the best coach in NCAA. That is still true. What is also true is that this season amplified some problems that need to be corrected in the program. We cannot keep doing things the same way and expect to win championships.
1) Resource allocation for the roster. For all the players that were on the field last night, UGA only had ONE SINGLE top 150 recruit from rivals on offense. That was Nate Frazier. Why this has been an accepted practice for the offense but not for defense is beyond me. We were overmatched on the line of scrimmage, at receiver, at tight end. We cannot keep sticking out head in the sand and expect "player development" to be the solution for underrecruiting at offensive line and receiver. Time and money need to be shifted towards these areas. I think Coley is on the right track at receiver, Hartley goes without saying, but our offensive line played subpar all season. Which brings me to point two.
2) Kirby is going to have to have some uncomfortable conversations with his best friend. Drew Bobo was the ring bearer at his wedding. That makes this harder but still needs to be done. Mike Bobo can stay on staff. As a consultant. But that needs to be all. I haven't been a "fire Bobo" guy, but at no point this past season (other than Tennessee, which the fact that it's only one game makes my point) did I ever look back at what we did on offense and say that we had an advantage because of our OC. This also speaks to Kirby's one weakness as a hire-er. His OC appointments have been lacking to say the least. From Jim Chaney (meh), Coley (bad OC), Monken (homerun but the exception), and Bobo (mixed bag at best), he's only hit on one out of 4 OC hires. It's almost to the point of George Costanza where he needs to do the opposite of what his gut is telling him for whom to hire as the OC. The fact that we've had multiple people as DC go on to be head coaches but not a single OC tells you what the level of performance has been on the offensive side. If things stay the same, well, that's the definition of insanity. Same discussion needs to be had with Searls. The product on the field and the recruits is not good enough.
3) Spend baby spend. Whatever we are spending on NIL isn't enough. We just got outbid for Key going to Nebraska. We got outbid for Downs. David Sanders went to the Vols. There are more. Yes there are wins for us with NIL, and what Radi shared about us opening the checkbook for players to stay, I'm sure there is a lot of information about NIL spending that we don't know about but the truth is whatever it is isn't enough. Part of it has to do with what we do on offense. Players aren't going to want to come because of that. But it's also that we haven't spent there. We can all b*tch about how NIL is ruining the game (that's another thread) but until it changes we need to get better at playing the financial game.

We do not need to throw the baby out with the bath water. We're close. We won the SEC and even with a flawed team played the toughest schedule in the nation and were still the #2 seed for a reason. Kirby doesn't need to go anywhere. But there are things that we need to either tweak or change moving forward.

Keep him on as an analyst to game plan, recruit, advise on in game adjustments. But we need a new OC calling plays.

What happened to Athletic OL who can move some. These big fat lazy 6f8 330 lb lineman that have cement in their shoes and no nastiness aren’t going to get it done. They can’t get out and pull they can barely stand up and back up 1.5 yards. Stevie wonder can see it. Tate is a 5 star BS. He needs to put more effort into his craft and stop worrying about The players lounge. These dudes are soft af. Ben Jones would eat them alive. Herschel Walker couldn’t run behind these dudes. Stop making excuses for people. Hold them and the position coach to a higher standard. Tate and all those gigantic losers look good getting off the bus. They look like Tarzan and play like Jane. All season long. This is a bottom line business. It’s about results and winning majority of them arent graduating so it sure as hell isn’t about education.

Stacy sucks. He sucks period. Donut Dawg was correct. Fire him and hire the best OL coach in America. We’ve missed pittman so bad. He could scout he could coach.

Those DL were 50 pounds lighter they ran around those boys all night shot in the gaps cause those big slow goofs upfront can’t move. Bigger isn’t always better. Weak rushing numbers in the regular season, worst ever under Kirby. Don’t even get at me about this. Make changes before the money we have coming in STOPS.

What is a reasonable time line? Would imagine that would lead to some staff overhaul on offense unless we hire Buster (not my first choice).

1) A good doctor made an interesting observation on the Post Game Overreaction Show. The Georgia defense did not allow Notre Dame into the red zone once and yet Notre Dame put up 23 points. The fumble at the 13 yard line before the end of the first half and the KO return for a TD were killers in a game where the offense revealed every weakness that plagued this team all year. 1 minute of miscues in the middle of the game changed thee entire game.

2) The penalty called against #39 that negated the big play was a bush league call by the official. Was the kid in the white? Barely. What is the official doing running so close to the sideline boundary? A warning would be sufficient IMHO.

3) The OL was the healthiest it has been all year. I really thought Georgia would dominate the LOS as a result. And yet this is the worst the OL has looked all year. If Searles is still on staff next year, then then that is gross staff mismanagement by KS.

4) There needs to be a mass overhaul of the offensive staff, except Hartley and maybe Coley (just because he is one of the best recruiters in the business - I know many want Coley gone too). The OL performance is malpractice. The RB recruiting and performance is malpractice. And playing the same WRs despite dropping passes, when you have talented young guys sitting on the sidelines, is malpractice. I don’t care how fast Smith is or how versatile Bell is. If you can’t catch the ball, then the other stuff is meaningless.

5) What is going on with bad season ending RB injuries? Is it strength and conditioning? Or are the coaches signing the wrong guys? Or is it just bad luck? I know all programs deal with injury at that position but to that extent? It’s just concerning.

6) There seemed to be a lack of unity and leadership on a consistent basis. This team showed flashes of greatness but something just seemed off with this team. It wasn’t a super talented team but Georgia had a better roster than ND. Some on here have stated that there might be a culture problem at Georgia.

Regarding the CFP:
1) every team with a bye lost and did so in a big way. Now, some of that has to do with seeding. There is no doubt that Penn St had the easiest path to the semifinals. Ohio St is the best team in the country right now. Texas is largely lucky as hell. But ND looked like a team that benefitted from playing a game while Georgia sat at home. They also benefitted by getting extra rest by not playing in a conference championship. So they got good rest and a home game against a week opponent to shake off the rust.

2) Sticking with that theme -The first two rounds need to be played on campuses. Is it really a reward to win your conference and the play your first playoff game at a neutral site, while your opponent got to knock off the rust in a home game against a weak G5 opponent? Both the B10 and SEC Champ were given probably the most difficult path to the semis.

It is unfathomable how ill prepared we were against the blitz, against the team that leads the nation in blitzes, while we start a QB who has nevered started before. Every football minded person in the whole wide and beautiful country knew the ND game plan would be blitz, blitz and blitz again, but we were not prepared for it. Not even close. It was embarrassing and even more pathetic.

This team ranked 126th in rushing offense this year. Not to be negative, but the counterargument to what I am about to say is, "We won the SEC, with the toughest schedule in the country!" If that is your ceiling, then you are wasting time reading this.

I am 45 years old. My late Father took me to Sanford Stadium in the fall of 1980 because he wanted his newborn son to have a true religious experience from the start. But for the sake of argument, I have a true recollection of games; I'll say at the age of 15, so for 30 years, I have never seen a Georgia football team so inept at running the football, OUR LITERAL DNA. We have finished in the top 5 in recruiting 8 times in the last ten years. We have been told and sold on we're never going to get Ferrari's like Ryan Williams or Jeremiah Smith because that's just not who we are on offense, "kids like that see us play and don't see themselves as a fit." So, for those of you saying we're wrong, out of line, or spoiled for wanting a change. I'm just going to defer to you; what now? When we can't even do what we are bred to do?

What offensive position group do you feel good about going into next season?

I know he got us 2 NCs but its a different game now. Getting the top class 3 out of 4 years isnt happening anymore with NIL and then all the turn over with the portal transfers.

What you can do is have the best staff possible and we're not even close.

Hard to watch..

but it’s time to move on. The first-half offensive struggles, the number of drops, and the inconsistency of the offensive line all fall under Kirby’s responsibility. He’s not going anywhere, so it’s time for Mike to go. I hate to say it, but it’s true. Searles needs to go as well.

Did anybody see the moment when Bell dropped the long pass. He laid there for a sec and Frazier took off sprinting down the field to tell him to get up and shake it off. It was a definite leadership moment and makes me think he will be a leader moving forward. They may not have showed it on TV but I thought it was super obvious in person.

This current model are making CCG's mean less and less. I was on the win the SECCG and get the bye bandwagon from the beginning. And I'm proud of the team for winning, but not sure it helped us. Also, not sure this team was getting past the quarter finals either way.

The sideline penalty was brutal. 20 yard net effect but absolute momentum killer. Even so, Searels and the OL got whipped all night. They were flat footed. They were slow. They were not prepared. That dude was a concern all season. He was a game killer tonight.

Kirby has some tough staff decisions to make. How he handles WR and OL will tell us a lot.
