We need radical changes in the secondary

If you look at the reps in a game for different defensive positions, db's have historically under Smart not rotated, often paying the whole game. Which means you can find your best 5 and play them the whole game, barring injury. Here's a thought on how to get the best five out there.

First off, the cornerback position has been killing us. There is a big enough sample size on Everette to conclude that he is incapable of defending a pass, it's time to move on. I'm not as down on Humphrey and Harris, but it's time for them to step it up. This may seem crazy to some, but here's a thought for our starting 5.

Corner: Robinson- I get that he's a freshman but Smart was extremely complimentary about his recent play. Could he honestly be worse than Everette. You could sub Humphrey and Harris at both corners and closely evaluate their play as the game progresses. Whoever demonstrates that they can cover somebody should progressively get more reps.

Corner: Starks- It's been said many times that he can play any of the secondary positions. His flexibility would mean that he would still get reps at safety and star, and he wouldn't leave the field.

Star: Aguero- hasn't been atrocious, but the position has taken a step down. When substituting Humphrey and Harris at corner, play Starks at star. Once again, Starks never leaves the field.

Safety: Jackson and Bolden play the safety position and don't leave the field unless they are injured.

Some people may not like the notion of starting two freshman in the secondary, but if they are one of your top 5 db's then you have to play them.

Watching Texas OU replay…….

Only picked it up in mid 3rd Quarter but Texas last 10 points were a result of a long punt return when an obvious block-in-the-back was uncalled (led to a FG) and the OU freshman QB throwing the ball away on 4th down from about his own 30 yard line ( TD pass where Ewers threw into triple coverage). I’m thinking we’re going to give the longhorns a battle like they’ve yet to be in this season.

Program Trajectory?

I know we have only lost 1 game to a good (at that time) program, but it just feels like the pendulum is swinging the wrong way right now. Ever since our loss to bama last year it has felt like we have had a leak in the program’s balloon. I know even Saban had down years, but I feel like we’re worse than his worst year while at bama. We need a quality win in the worst way right now. Am I right?

GEORGIA RUN OFFENSE vs TEXAS RUN DEFENSE

This isn’t your traditional Georgia offense that’s able to just bully people with the run game. The Bulldogs have been okay in the run game, but certainly not dominant, checking in at No. 92 nationally in team rush offense. They are much better in yards per rush, coming in at 18th nationally in that category. Trevor Etienne is the main guy and he has gotten better as the year has gone on. Branson Robinson is hurt, so freshman Nate Frazier is now the second man up. Frazier did well against Clemson in the season-opener, but not been as effective in recent weeks. Texas is up to 23rd in rush defense and is 12th nationally in yards per rush.

Edge – Texas **”

Please, run Frazier A LOT.

Unless he’s injured, it’s time to see what Ellis Robinson can do @ CB ….

… don’t want to hear “ he doesn’t know the D checks, scheme, plays, etc”; we shouldn’t have a scheme so incredibly complicated that kids have to have 2-3 yrs to understand it (or a PhD). SIMPLIFY his responsibilities to take advantage of his obvious talent … if need be, lock him on to an opposing WR and simply tell him “your job is to shut this guy down”. KS and GS can run their system with the other 10 kids; Robinson displayed enough natural talent in high-profile camps and All-Star environments to warrant an opportunity to show what he can do. If memory serves correctly, he went up against several of the nation’s best HS WRs and did a phenomenal job. Nothing to lose by giving him a chance in a low-risk game say against a Miss State to see what he can do when the cameras are rolling - we’ve seen enough of the other CBs not to at least give this kid an opportunity, imo -
