The fact that we were the best of the conference despite all the holes on our roster says a lot. I’ve never said this before, but I don’t think the SEC was the best conference in CFB this year. It’s looking likely we could be in for an all Big 10 title game. I think the Big 10 was overall a little deeper than the SEC this season. Just a lot of mediocrity within the conference. And even the best teams have struggled in the post-season.

Granted it's hard to win a playoff game with a guy making his first start at QB. It's not about just his play.

I don’t know a lot about NIL but I know UGA has put tons of guys in the NFL. And a few golfers haven’t done too bad either. Many of them made major money (not all). Can they create a NIL group of former football players/athletes to give each year what they can-I’m talking only the guys who can afford it and were superstars. Then give them something in return. Recognize them at games or something. It’s a shame NIL can’t be a tax deduction or it would be easier to get those guys to contribute. We need to get creative. We don’t have the founder of Microsoft etc as an alum.

We need a good O line across the board. Some weak spots have cost us this year. Cost Beck his elbow and left us near the bottom of SEC in rushing. Can’t protect the QB or run block consistently. You can have all the skill players in the world but without a good line, they don’t play well. No idea in this world of NIL what they pay them but get some good ones and pay them until the NCAA comes to its senses re NIL.

We kinda whiffed on all of our “big” portal additions on offense and it really killed us.

Yorosek - Got a little better as the season progressed but never became good enough, missed blocks & drops

Colby - Suspension

Humphreys - okay depth addition but had some crucial bad drops

ETN - Super inconsistent but overall the best out of the bunch

COACH SMART: "Didn't want to because that's what they wanted. They wanted us to burn a time out there and try to do it. And we subbed. So it's really unfortunate because I've been told by our head of officials in the SEC that you can't do that. You can't run 11 on, 11 off. We did it in 2017 against Tennessee. We've carried that. We practiced that and repped that because teams try to do it, and we were told by officials we could not do that. And so we were trying to say you couldn't do it. We got our defense out there. We were fine. I mean, I would have gone for it if I was them."

Q. You were told previously that in a different game, you can't run 11 on or 11 off. I saw you trying to
talk to the officials. Did they ever come over and talk to you, the head official, or anything like
that?

COACH SMART: "Never gave me a real clear answer. Never gave me a real clear answer."
