Prayer Request Senseless Tragedy Has Struck A Georgia (UGA) Family

Bart was a good friend of mine and his wife is one of my wife's best friends. Our kids played together growing up. Bart was as good as gold and the only part of this that makes any sense is the fact that he died while trying to help someone...something he did a lot, whether on duty or not.

Bart was a UGA Grad, animal husbandry or something similar. In addition to being a battalion chief with the Coweta County Fire Department, he was a cattleman. He and his father both ran cattle and his father also owns a farm in Alabama. I haven't spoken to the family since learning of the tragedy this morning but I assume that Bart was over there tending his father's cattle. Bart's wife has a PhD from UGA. Their daughter graduated from UGA (Terry College, I believe) in the last year or two and their son is a sophomore at UGA.

I've known Bart for so long that I can't remember when we met. Probably 25-30 years ago. His father in law was one of my best friends. I honestly can't think of a bad thing about Bart...literally none. He was good natured, easy going, honest, hard working and had a quick wit. He could make friends with anyone.

If you're a person who prays, please pray for his whole family. In addition to his wife and children, he leaves elderly parents to whom he was a great help. He also leaves a grieving mother in law who is still grieving the loss of her husband. He had two sisters and I think a brother too. I've met them but don't know his siblings well as they don't live nearby.

In the last year or two, Bart told me that he was actually a cousin of Lewis Grizzard.

EDIT: More news has come out. Bart wasn't just helping the driver who hit the deer. The driver's wife was with him and she stayed in the vehicle. The driver is the one who returned fire on the resident who is reported to have opened fire without warning or provocation. Bart exited the yard, crossed the road and collapsed in the ditch. The sheriff's deputy who arrived on scene thought he was coming to the scene of a deer vs car accident and discovered 3 people with gunshot wounds and Bart had already succumbed to his wound(s).

NonDawg Bizarre goal in Edmonton Oilers game

I've been watching the NHL since early 70s and have never seen this before. A fan threw a plate of nachos ($13.75) on the ice during play.

Good Morning Dawg Nation

Well, I guess the state of Ohio is happy and the boosters who forked out all that money for Downs and others got their money's worth. Gag.

If we're going to see ANY movement I never thought we'd see it until after last night. We shall see now.

We're expecting snow and ice down here. Haven't had that in probably 20 years. We have NO experience driving in this stuff, so the next 2 days will be interesting for sure....

Praying little Miss Maren is on the mend and relearning her swallowing techniques @lifedawg
Hope you all had a safe trip and enjoyed DC @Lumpdawg
Hope youre feeling better @GaGirl14

I think someone has a birthday this week....

Praying for all those on the LDGMDNOPL and the GMDN gang too 🙏🏻

Happy Birthday/Anniversary if you're celebrating today 🥳 🎉

Love you guys and gals, MEAN IT!!

Go Dawgs ♥️

SEC Portal transfers production with new team in 2024-25 vs old team in 2023-24

I was looking to see who made best use of the portal, also what players have exceeded expectations, who made the mid major jump successfully, etc.

UPDATE Some updates after meeting with Coach Johnson....tons more coming

Just some quick notes....I'll go more in-depth over the next few days.

...You've already seen this, but Bradley Stewart will miss the season after undergoing elbow surgery. Coach said he had an issue when he came from EKU, team took a chance when they brought him in; surgery was not a surprise.
...Alton Davis is being stretched out, and could potentially start, but is a guy who can be used in any normal of roles, including closing.
...They are monitoring the innings for JT Quinn, at least early on.
...Matthew Hoskins has shown great velocity, but Johnson spent a lot of time this fall working on his off-speed pitches, and slider.
...Zach Brown could receive some starts; Wes raves about him. Four-pitch pitcher, ground ball guy who see a TON of action.
...Leighton Finley and Kolten Smith are in great shape and look primed for big years.
...Freshman pitcher Nate Taylor finished as one of the top five pitchers for the fall in term of production. Wes said he has a unique ability to slow the game down.
...Southern Cal transfer Eric Hammond is a "guy you will see out there"
...Johnson cited Jordan Stephens' arm, but notes he needs to learn to pitch in the SEC.
...Redshirt freshman Paul Farley has impressed....95-plus.
...Charlie Goldstein will start throwing to hitters in approximately 10 days.
...Johnson said he expects to use six different starters over the conference schedule, perhaps even 7-9.
...Don't look for the Bulldogs to have a set closer. You've started to see more MLB teams go this route; and Georgia could follow suit; The situation and opposing lineup will determine who goes in.
...Brian Curley is "very good."
…Zach Harris has picked up where he left off at the end of the season.
...Collin Caldwell is pitching like he was before his injury.
...17 pitchers hit 95 mph or higher in the fall.

Offense

...Ryan Black has received an injection in his throwing hand. Apparently, there was some tingling, Wes described as a "nerve issue." However, he is supposedly fine now.
...Wes loves Nolan McCarthy .. "Man, am I glad we've got him." For those who don't know, he's already been named a team captain.
...Devin Obee "is as adverstied." Tireless worker.
...Henry Hunter "has taken a jump."
...Slate Alford and Kolby Branch "are setting the tone."
...Tre Phelps: Said his biggest deal this year will be performing "with a target on his back."
...Ryland Zaborowski: "Looks really, really good right now."
...Christian Adams: Healthy after battling a hammy most of the fall.
...Robbie Burnett: There's been some period of adjustment, but is progressing well.
...Daniel Jackson: Bat is the story; still needs some work behind the plate.
...Bryce Clavon and Erick Parker: "Both have looked better."
...Cade Brown: "Looked phenomenal early in the fall hitting."

Other Notes

...Georgia will play 47 of its 56 games on turf.
...Georgia has already scrimmaged on its new turf. Rest of the facilities should be completed around Feb. 9, most certainly before the first home series.
...Georgia will scrimmage Friday at 2:30

(These are just some of what we touched on; MUCH more coming, including an in-depth conversation on the new turf, etc, and why the change was made)

Tomb of the unknown soldiers…

With Trump laying the wreath today it gave me the opportunity to explain the whole guarding process to my young grands. They didn’t really understand but I told them some day they need to visit and watch in order to understand the solemn atmosphere and respect shown for those killed defended our nation. It is one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited.
