2026 SEC schedule thoughts

While pondering Kirby's candidacy for coach of the year for parlaying the consensus #1 SOS to a SEC championship (and perhaps more), I was wondering what the SEC office might have in mind for the 2026 conference schedule.
  • How many conference games will it include?
  • Will there be some formula for balancing the schedule and ensuring a team plays all the other SEC teams within a set number of seasons?
  • Will the process be made public or remain locked away in Birmingham minds and hard drives?
  • Will Texas be given perceived special treatment (as they did all those years in the Big-12)?
Just wondering. Any ideas on what might happen in 2026 and beyond? (Caveat: I anticipate this will be directly affected by what the CFP decides to do beyond 2025.)

60 Minutes interview with 2 Mossad agents

While I trust nothing 60 minutes says, this is a very good interview on the Israeli pager and walkie talkie explosions.

The best line:
60 minutes "So you made these exploding walkie talkies and sold them to Hezbollah"

Mossad "They got a good price"

Beck's final play

When Carson came wobblin in for that final play in the SECCG, arm dangling at his side, I had a flashback. Didn't happen quite the same, but still...... I was smiling, and wondering if we were about to see Carson gut one out for an epic finish. He did, but not exactly how I pictured it happening. Apparently neither did Texas! Heheh

Bert Jones of the (then) Baltimore Colts had an injury-plagued final couple of seasons and his career was shortened because of the dings. But the man was a real gamer when he played. Being always banged up, it wasn't unusual to seeing him grimace and limp through a game. Or even a season. One of my favorite QB's from way way back. Great player on some bad Colts teams in the 70's.

One particular play - and I could not find a link (1977, I think) - Jones was smashed to the turf in a brutal tackle, made it painfully back to the huddle holding his wrist, then went under center on the next play in obvious pain. BUTTTT, after a play-fake and drop back, Jones drilled a bullet over the middle for a touchdown. Then went laughing and jumping off the field. PSYCHE!!

When 15 came back into the game for that last play, my eyes popped. Few seconds later none of that mattered when Etienne crashed into the end zone. BALL GAME!

A casualty of NIL that no one is talking about...

Recruiting Hostesses

For many years, this was a crucial job in the well-oiled machine of recruiting. These young ladies put out... fires whenever a recruit might be feeling homesick. They got a leg up... on the competition by showing recruits the very best parts...of campus culture. They were prepared to go all the way... to the end of the recruiting weekend having given everything they had to secure a commitment. Some of them took it very hard... if a young man they hosted chose to sign elsewhere.

Gone are the days of a more personal touch from the hostesses helping the recruit become more intimately familiar with the university.

Nowadays, teams just throw a bunch of NIL money at recruits and expect them to find their own good times.

So when you think of the Lacey Pearl Earps of the world who no longer matter as much as they once did - well, tonight thank God it's them, instead of you.

Gunner: what do we know?

Been thinking about Gunner and he’s so much of a mystery to me due to lack of playing time and relatively quiet practice reports over the years.

So, let’s share what we DO know about him ITT

I’ll go first:
1. He’s a tough sumbitch who doesn’t mind using his legs. Didn’t look quite as shifty as Stet but maybe more akin to Aaron Murray?

2. His arm strength looked perfectly fine to me on the passes he did push downfield. I’ll be curious how he looks for a whole game, as the sample size is extremely low. Hopefully he can thrown a beautiful long ball….

What else do we know about him?
