When I think of when Stegeman Coliseum was probably at its loudest/best—at least during my lifetime—I think back to this era. Jim Harrick’s 2001-02 and 2002-03 teams were really good. Those were exciting times.

Yet, entering the Kentucky game in February of 2002, Georgia was experiencing adversity like few Bulldog teams had before.

Ranked No. 15 in the country just a couple of weeks beforehand, Georgia had lost four of its previous six games, including back-to-back setbacks to Florida and Auburn entering the game. But that’s only scratching the surface.

Starting forward Chris Daniels was forced to miss the first half against Kentucky for throwing an elbow in the Florida loss. The suspension, which wasn’t handed down by the SEC until the day before, was ordered after a “belated re-review” of the elbow-throwing incident.

To make matters more interesting, there were accusations that Kentucky supplied the video clip to the SEC of Daniels’ thrown elbow. During the game, Georgia students chanted “Tattle-Tale” towards the Kentucky bench while holding up video tapes. The students also booed Kentucky head coach (former Georgia head coach) Tubby Smith in pregame introductions and jeered him throughout the contest.

More so, just a week before, the brother of junior guard Ezra Williams, Antwonne R. Williams, 24, had been shot and killed in Atlanta. Ezra, the league’s fourth-leading scorer at the time, buried his older brother just two days before the game. Although he had played in the Florida loss a few days prior, missing 11 of 14 shots from the field, Williams was admittedly reluctant to play against Kentucky.

Good thing he did.

Dedicating his game to his late brother, Williams scored a game-high 20 points, which was followed by 19 from Jarvis Hayes. In just 20 minutes of play—the entire second half—Daniels grabbed seven rebounds. Coming off a one-game suspension, big-man Steve Thomas (the team’s tallest player at only 6-foot-8) was named Georgia’s player of the game after scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

For the Bulldogs, which entered the game as four-point underdogs, the win not only ended a seven-game home losing streak to the Wildcats but also clinched a regular-season sweep of Kentucky for the first time since the 1986-87 season.

“The Lord works in mysterious ways,” Jim Harrick said after the win over Kentucky. “We’ve had adversity for about a month. Hopefully, it’s behind us now.”

no coach is above criticism if justified. I have had little to be critical of with CMW except for his apparent stubberness, for lack of a better word, last year in not changing his tactic of having our unathletic seven footer doubleteaming out past the head of the key. I believe it cost us 3-4 losses and hurt us whenever it was employed. Most coaches have some reluctance to change certain things, but the good ones will recognize when changes have to be made. Since Mark Fox is being recognized tonight, I will recognize him as the most stubborn coach in UGA BB history. There are too many things to list, but it led to him being fired. As a matter of fact our AD was too stubborn in keeping him on long after it was time to part ways.

Like the defensive strategy last year and our offensive shortcomings this year I believe CMW is a good enough BB coach to understand what is happening. If his inability to change for whatever reason begins to cost us games I will change my opinion. I'm willing to give him time. It is, however, of the essence.

I guess even college Presidents are into NIL these days. SMU is going to like this new phase where money matters more than anything.

Somebody give me something I haven't thought of please.. In terms of real edge/pass rushers who do we have on this roster we are excited about? Quintavious Johnson and Gabe Harris? We have to have more depth... really feel like I'm missing something at least I hope I am. Will we move some of the young inside guys out? Cole or Justin Williams?

If you remember our update from last Thursday, we mentioned a number of names no one else had, including a pair of names we were hearing that we couldn't confirm.

Shortly after our update last week, our Tennessee site confirmed Glen Elarbee was in the picture, although it appears he is not likely the choice.

And today we were able to confirm that Stacey Searels is definitely in the mix.

UGA is still looking for an offensive line coach and there has been some rather wild speculation as of late. Let's recap where we are.

We mentioned Greg Studwara, recently of Ohio State first. Then we heard Will Friend was in the mix.

The o-line coach at FSU, Alex Atkins, was looked at but he was recently promoted to offensive coordinator and has a hefty buyout.

We have confirmed that Eric Mateos of Baylor is also being considered.

And here are two other names we have heard mentioned but have not been able to confirm.

Glen Elarbee of Tennessee
Stacey Searels of UNC

Outside of Morris at guard and maybe Freeling at a tackle spot it seems like every position is up for grabs.

Could Greens slide to guard? A ton of redshirt freshman and true freshman with a chance to play. Should be an interesting spring practice.

That's why Todd Monken had such great things to say about him..

However, When it's just Mike Bobo running the offense... he's just not good. He needs help with that aspect..... Nothing wrong with admitting that.

Glenn Shumann has Kirby Smart and Coach Robinson.... and Muschamp..... to lean on during the game and week...

Who does Bobo have?? Cooley?? (I hope not) .... Searels??... ... Bobo has always done better when he has someone with equal or better knowledge to work with.

Get him some Decent Help if you're not gonna replace him...
