He should never play another snap at UGA...

Have you posted something like this? Think about some the most maligned players on the team this year and how they came up huge in big moments vs the #1 team in the country in the biggest game of DKR stadium history.

Arian Smith
UGA has a 3rd on 10 on our own 11-yard line. It's now a one possession game at 23-15 and Texas has ALL the momentum. Beck has already thrown 3 picks. Given Dillon Bell's early drops and Arian's 'history,' I'm certain 99.9% of the Vent would have chosen London Humphries to get that target...but Arian gets separation and gains 21 yards. Biggest play of the game...and then we saw what London did with a chance to ice it. I'm 100% certain both players will make more huge plays for UGA this season, just not 100% of the time.

Daylen Everette
Pretty obvious here, dude had the game of his life on the biggest stage. I'm glad @RightAway already apologized, saved me some research. There are so many others out there, I suggest posters start covering those up like #6 covered up Texas WRs

Ben Yurosek
Let's face it, we've seen this guy get blown up as he adjusts to SEC competition. Fans see the occasional drive-killing missed block and get frustrated. But we've heard insiders say he's progressing in practice and playing better in games. And the guy came up with some huge blocks vs that #1 defense, including on that 4th down ETN TD.

Oscar Delp
This guy has also had some drops and a fumble that almost lost us the UK game (recovered by Arian Smith, btw). Second biggest play of that championship response drive was the flea flicker and he made the play. Also had some huge blocks, as well.

Coaches aren't immune to mistakes. I'm still going to be a 9 on the "TRUST THE COACHES!!!" scale of 1 (@DawgGoesWoof) to 10 (that one poster who uses random capitalization all the time and would trust the coaches even if they forfeited the rest of our season to protest that DPI reversal). Mainly because Kirby is more competitive than the entire Vent combined, and I just can't imagine him intentionally playing any single player at any point in any game who doesn't give us the best chance to win. That was absolutely cemented both after the 2021 SECCG and during the 3rd qtr of the 2021 natty when he had every reason to switch to JTD before Stetson owned the 4th qtr. Can you imagine the blowback if we had lost that game? Some people call that being stubborn. I say it's a decision borne out of hundreds of hours of practice-watching.

I also trust Kirby's development of these players, not just the decision-making to play them. We've seen what Kirby can do whether it's a 5-star recruit or a walk-on. If someone's playing, it's for a reason. Matt Landers was one of the most frustrating players in the history of UGA football...then he went to Arkansas and somehow had a 47/901/8 season...and then earned actual NFL paychecks for awhile! Nobody could understand why we ever threw to him, but he ended up being incredibly productive -- just two years behind schedule and not in Athens, for whatever reason. But for every Matt Landers, there's a Kwame Lassiter and a Ladd McConkey, who are killing it in the NFL.

I guess the whole point of this is just to maybe think about what you post before you post, just for an extra 10 seconds even. Me included.

When was last time… THOUGHTS

#11 and #13 on D were both close to 100%. Clemson if I recall right?

Was just thinking back how good our D played in that game. Completely shut down what appears to be a pretty good offense with how they have been rolling lately. I mean Klubnik looked lost for majority of the game and has been putting up big numbers since.

#11 and #13 healthy and wreaking havoc takes so much pressure off our DBs - #6 played his best game ever as a dawg. They have struggled a bit lately, but played so much freer and faster against the Big12 Champs 😉

#11 and #13 carry us to our next natty!

NonDawg 24/25 Atlanta Hawks preview

The NBA season starts on Wednesday for the Hawks so time for the annual preview.

After coming off a disappointing 36-46 season last year, management correctly decided that the Trae/Murray backcourt was not going to work. Luckily, the Pels decided that they wanted to have Dejounte play PG for them so we got a pretty decent return of Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr, and 2 First round picks (one of which is an unprotected Lakers pick next draft).

The team also decided not to go over the tax line once again which stopped any other major moves apart from Zaccharie Risacher being selected with the overall first pick. While being one of the least heralded first picks in history, Zacch impressed with his mature wing game in summer league and preseason. Along with Dyson, Hunter and the surprise Vit Krejci; the Hawks now have four NBA quality wings in the 6’8” range. Last year they had no depth there and were forced to play the smaller Bogi and Mathews at the three.

Right before the deadline today, Jalen Johnson was extended with a 5/$150M contract that could be a bargain as soon as this season. Jalen can be the 2nd best player on the Hawks this season as long as he keeps improving his game and stays on the court. He’s in line for a 20/10/5 season this year which would put him in All-Star consideration in the East.

Trae Young has become the most disrespected star in the League. ESPN’s top 100 put him at 37 overall which is ludicrous for a 25/10 guy on slightly below avg efficiency. If Trae can get back to positive efficiency then he will be in running for All-NBA like he was in 21/22. That Trae will be needed if the Hawks want to get to the playoffs.

Despite reportedly trying to get off Clint Capela’s contract in the offseason, he ended up staying on the roster. That gives ATL three quality centers on the roster with him, Okongwu and Nance. None of these guys are stars but they can be a top ten center rotation in the League. OO is probably ready for another step up so he needs to get starter’s minutes ASAP.

Overall, this is the best quality depth that the team has had since maybe the 80’s. Bogi is coming off a great Olympics and remains one of the best bench scorers. Hunter is likely never going to live up to his contract but he can definitely be a solid 8th man that can shoot and play against bigger forwards. Vit was a great story last season and the Hawks extended him for basically the minimum for four years.

I see the starting lineup by the end of the season as:
C Okongwu
PF Jalen
SF Zacch
SG Dyson
PG Trae
With Bogi, Clint and Hunter a solid bet trio on the bench. With any injuries; Vit, Nance, and Bufkin will see time. Snyder will probably run a 9 man rotation at the start so it will be interesting to see which of those three will get that last slot. Regardless, the Hawks can withstand injuries apart from Trae this year.

I’ll predict a 44-38 team this season and a return to the playoffs. Quin will be in a position to need to develop Risacher as well as try to win (Hawks gave their pick to the Spurs so no need to tank). Risacher is the key IMO to the Hawks becoming a contender again. He’s likely not going to be a superstar but he needs to slip in that 3rd best Hawk slot eventually. Basically what former number two pick Marvin Williams never became.

While we won’t be a contender this season, this should be a very fun team to watch. Last couple of seasons were a bit of a slog with Murray and Trae clashing on the court so fun will be good.

Observations from DKR

The B1 flyover was really cool; the more flyovers the better (but did anyone else find it strange/anticlimactic that they circled the stadium in plain sight for 30 mins before the game?)

The drone show at the beginning of the 4th was awesome; I can’t wait to see what we and other schools do that technology moving forward.

The stadium is big, but I wouldn’t say it was particularly loud or intimidating. I have seen more rowdy environments at a lot of other SEC schools (Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU easily come to mind).

I was happy to see another top tier program flustered with their home team’s stadium game presentation. The fans near us echoed complaints about hokey local commercials and awful, outdated song selections (I never imagined I would get to hear Twisted Sister this Saturday, it reminded me of home sweet Sanford). If it makes anyone feel better, they did a singalong to Dancing Queen late in the 4th quarter. And the Emo Bevo graphic they did… who thought that was a good idea?

Most importantly, the dawgs traveled well (saw road dawgs putting in work everywhere we went in San Antonio and Austin.

Targeting/Secondary Personnel

SIAP I’ve been offline for a few days. When we lost Dan Jackson and Aguero to the targeting calls and then very nearly lost KJ, who would have played safety beside Starks if Kj had to come out? I know Jacorey is the third string star and he played okay. Chris Cole appeared to get some run too? Did Kirby say anything about it? If anyone has any input or knowledge about it I’d appreciate it. Something I’ve been thinking about the last two days.

On Etienne's non-TD:

This is something I really don't understand. They looked at that play for a long time. They undoubtedly concluded that his forward progress was much closer to the goal line than the original mark. They, apparently, just couldn't quite convince themselves that he actually made it to the goal line, Fair enough, I guess. They trotted right out there and left the ball where it had been erroneously spotted almost a full yard from the goal line. That play shouldn't have "stood" even if they didn't give us the TD. They should have moved it up to just short of the goal line. That would have made the next couple of plays less anxiety inducing.

I seriously don't get that. "Stands" should mean one thing and one thing only: we can't confirm any difference from the original call. Here, based on the length of the review, the call should have been reversed and the ball moved much closer to the goal line. This sort of thing happens regularly. One could even apply the same logic on the Etienne run where we weren't awarded a first down. They looked at it a long time and certainly concluded that the original spot was wrong. They should have moved the ball closer to the yard to gain even if they didn't award us the first down.

Am I wrong?

Good Morning Dawg Nation

Them Dawgs is HELL!!!

Still true on Monday!!

It's back to the grind for many of us, but I'll be walking a little taller at the office today. Might even have my chest puffed up a little, right @Scdawg524 ?

I feel like this is just what the doctor ordered for our team. They needed a confidence booster and boy did the make one for themselves Saturday night. I still feel like Beck and the receivers need one too....just doesn't seem to have the confidence in them that we all know he had with BB and LMc. Hopefully that changes vs UF

Praying for all those on LDGMDNOPL
and all the GMDN gang too!

Happy Birthday/Anniversary if you're celebrating today 🎉🎉

Love you guys and gals, MEAN IT.....

Go Dawgs ❤️
