Dawgs are up to 18 in NET

We rose 6 spots for that win last night.

Buffalo is a terrible team but with NET every game is a chance to improve your ranking.

NET rankings are decided by two components, a résumé component and an efficiency component.

The résumé is simply about who you beat and who you lose to, adjusted for game location. The exact efficiency formula is unknown, but almost every efficiency in basketball is typically based around net points per 100 possessions, adjusted for strength of opponent.

All this to say, when people say “a win is a win”, that’s not the case anymore. A 40-pt win over a bad team vs a 20-pt win can make major differences. Some people argue that this is kind of stupid, and I’m not sure I disagree, but I’m not gonna complain because the efficiency metric LOVES us this year.

What a great start to the season. These next 2 games may seem like cupcakes but remember that every possession of every game matters

Somto had a great game as well

Yeah, it’s obvious - he had a double - double, but he had to work hard for that. Only 1 or 2 easy dunks.

He had 5 blocks and altered a bunch of other shots. He plays physically and hit the floor several times. There was a lot of contact underneath. …AND this was in a 50 point win. (He’s so big and strong, he doesn’t get enough “love” from the refs.)

He is developing his passing game and played the high post in the zone offense … and he moved the ball well.

I think his continued development is gonna be one of the keys to our success in the SEC!

Do you want to buy wins or players?

Taking a look back on our portal activity from last year, what player could we have added that would have improved our team this year as far as wins and losses? I don't think even a player of Walter Nolen's caliber changes us from 10-2 to 11-1. Pretty universally on the vent last year nobody wanted Evan Stewart because of his perceived attitude. Does Isaiah Bond make us 11-1 or 12-0? I don't think so. (We did go out and get the third highest ranked receiver in the portal in Humphrey FWIW last year). College football is not about "winning the portal." It's about winning championships.
We can all get frustrated about our lack of portal activity right now but I would advise caution. Radi posted something a little while ago about the danger of recruiting a kid to a position, like quarterback, in the portal while simultaneously telling Gunner that he's our guy and that he can get the job done in the post season. We still have a championship to win and being duplicitous or appearing to be so will hurt our chances.
There is NOT a big fish other than the Washington state QB in the portal now. There isn't a Walter Nolen. Oatis is not even in that same conversation. This is like NFL free agency where the only players who are in the portal now are by in large players that their original team can live without, because if they couldn't live without them they wouldn't have hit the portal in the first place.
Yes, we need at least 2 receivers. Yes we need a safety, defensive tackle, and I would say right tackle (I would argue that it's our 2nd biggest need) but this is also only the first wave and players are still getting added every day. The better teams with better players are still in the playoffs and some of them will enter in the spring.

The Appellate Judge on Willis case

The judge who didn't want Willis removed from the case said

"It is not our job to second guess trial judges or to substitute our judgement for theirs,” Land wrote in his dissent.

“We should resist the temptation to interfere with that discretion, including its chosen remedy, just because we happen to see things differently,” he continued. “Doing otherwise violates well-established precedent, threatens the discretion given to trial courts, and blurs the distinction between our respective courts"

Um, yes it is your job. You are an appellate court.

Neither is it a temptation to interfere, it is literally a responsibility you have accepted.

It's not a violation of precedent, to overturn a ruming, it's called law and order. It is part of due process.

How do these people become judges?
