Who makes the SECC could get complicated. 5 way tie?

Stay with me here - UGA loses to Ole Miss and beats UT. Everyone otherwise wins out save Bama v. LSU and A&M v. UT where one must lose.

That leaves you a single 1 loss team in the A&M v. UT winner and five - 2 loss teams:

UGA,
UT,
Ole Miss,
Real UT v. A&M Loser and
Bama v. LSU winner.

What .... a .... mess. I guess Vandy could beat UT or AU beat Bama but what I posted is not unlikely.

Bobo isn’t getting enough credit for Arian Smith’s development…

as an elite tackler. Arian was tied for 3rd for solo tackles against the Gators with 2. Arian Smith had more solo tackles yesterday than: TID, Stackhouse, Jalon Walker, Malaki Starks, Raylen Wilson. Gotta credit Bobo here as Arian was not an elite tackler under Monken.

Arian’s tackling has become a hidden weapon, kudos to CMB for that.

SEC best wins away from home...

Just sitting here thinking about the criticism of the Dawgs after playing our 5th game out of 8 games away from Sanford and how our competition for an SEC championship are doing away from their home stadium. Things may be way better for the Dawgs than they appear.

Bama 3 road games. Best Win Wisc Road losses Tenn and Vandy

LSU 4 road games. Best Win SoCar Road losses Southern Cal and TAMU

OM 4 road games. Best Win SoCar Road loss LSU (home loss to KY)

Tenn 3 road games. Best Win? NC State or Okie Road loss Arkansas

TAMU 3 road games. Best Win Florida Road loss SoCar (home loss to ND)

TEX 3 road games. Best Win? Vandy, Okie, Mich (home loss to UGA)

I guess we can complain about some games not being up to the standard but we're the only SEC team that has played more games away than at home and our only loss was at Bama. We've also played more traditional powers than any other SEC team away from our home field as well. (Bama, Tex, Clemson) At this point, our season is most likely the most impressive in the nation and that's with a QB that has the yips.

Beck: expectation v reality

It’s possible we unfairly expected Beck to transcend into the next Joe Burrow this year. He was tabbed as a pre-season All American, Heisman hopeful. It’s important to note how many weapons this offense has lost.

Mentally I think he bought in to the hype. He went into his home town expecting to dominate and put on a show. He realized he needed to dial it back and play more conservative in the 4th QTR. It’s a mixture of immaturity, lack of weapons, and probably some poor coaching. If he can get back to playing a bit more conservative, I think we can make a run at a title. If he keeps trying to be a hero, we lose 1 of the next 2 and definitely fall short of a natty.

The WR route tree is overly complicated

This has lead to several of the interceptions and stalled drives. Example, IF the safety moves up pre snap the WR runs a quick hitch but if the safety stays back run the quick slant. There are numerous examples of Beck pre snap reading the route one way and the WR reading it the opposite. Either remove the complexity or get Beck and the WRs on the same page.

QB battle: Carson Beck and Jaxson Dart

I just averaged their splits from the last two seasons:

OVERALL AVERAGE STAT LINE IN SEC GAMES (23-24):
Beck:
24-35 (70%), 295 yards, 1.67 TDs, 1 INT, 154 QB rating
Dart: 19-29 (64%), 268 yards, 1.46 TDs, 0.38 INT, 154 QB rating (plus 26 rushing yards per game)

Here is this season only:

OVERALL AVERAGE STAT LINE IN SEC GAMES (2024):
Beck:
25-39 (65%), 297 yards, 1.67 TDs, 1.83 INT, 133 QB rating. (Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas, Florida)
Dart: 21-31 (66%), 331 yards, 1.80 TDs, 0.20 INT, 174 QB rating. (Kentucky, SCar, LSU, Oklahoma, Arkansas)

And the splits for away/home this year:

2024 Beck in SEC games away from Athens (Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Florida):
23-39 (59%), 271 yards, 1.25 TDs, 2.25 INT, 115 QB rating

2024 Dart in SEC games in Oxford (Kentucky, Oklahoma):
21-30 (69%), 290, 1.67 TDs, 0.38 INT, 163 QB rating

And finally, a reminder of their head-to-head stat lines last year:
Beck: 18/25, 306 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT
Dart: 10/17, 112 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

Branson just a sprained MCL is massive...

2-3 weeks with an MCL sprain is massively good news. I was not at all hopeful about the MRI.

I was a little shocked how few seemed worried about his injury. He looked the most decisive and explosive he's looked this year vs MSU. We aren't going to survive a CFP with only two backs, or riding Cash Jones, though I love Cash in a third down role.

Positives concerning Beck…

While all the criticism regarding the INTs and body language is valid and reason for concern, let’s remember after the last interception Beck was 12-14 for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Let’s not forget almost every game Stetson played in all of us at some point in each big game (outside of TCU) thought that we needed another QB and he wasn’t the man to lead us to a championship. He proved us wrong because he made big plays when it mattered most despite almost costing us victories (Alabama fumble, OSU short arm pass to Ladd).

Beck has a lot to work on, but like it or not, this is his team. We don’t have a backup coming in to lead this team. The positives is he has been pretty damn clutch when we’ve needed him most. He could have packed it in against Bama but led us back in the second half and if Colbie gives any effort at all we would have had a shot to score at the end. Texas, third and clutch right after water bottle gate. Florida 3rd and clutch again to Arian.

We can argue and critique everything he does during the game, but at the end of the day, he’s our QB1 and I like that he’s had to prove himself in difficult situations with our backs against the wall. This could be huge in the stretch run. He’s proven to me that he can step up in the face of adversity and lead us to victory. If he can put it together, watch out college football.
