Am I disappointed that Georgia lost yesterday? Yea, a little. But only because I have to wait almost 10 days to watch Georgia play baseball again. For some Hoover is a big deal, for others (like me) they can take it or leave it. The new single elimination format has made it more meaningless, IMHO. Every meaningful baseball tournament is double elimination. Every baseball series is 3 games. Why? Because anyone can have a bad game or a bad matchup (and vice versa). Single elimination tells you nothing. What happened yesterday in Hoover did nothing to change Georgia's circumstances in the post-season. A top 8 national seed is already a lock.
Oklahoma has a lot to play for. Right now they are a projected 3-seed. It's a big deal to become a 2-seed and that is why they went all-in yesterday with Kyson Witherspoon. I kind of thought they would pitch him against Georgia because he's a bad matchup for our hitters. I thought they would ride him as long as the game was close, and boy did they. What I would not have foreseen is him pitching over 100 pitches. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to elite pitching. Witherspoon is projected to go in the top 10 of the MLB. He's a dude and showed it yesterday.
I'll leave the heavy analysis to those who know ball more than I do. I'm encouraged by our pitching yesterday, which did enough to help us win the game. But little things cost us runs. We've seen that before. And shout out to Henry Hunter who is peaking at the right time. I chuckled when he had to go back and touch first base on his HR. So now we wait to see who comes to Foley next week. On to Omaha!
