It's why the two impeachments of Trump were a complete waste of time and resources...and both clearly political in an effort to hurt Trump (and the second a desperate effort make him ineligible to be 47). Beyond that, there would be no criminal case possible until Biden left office...which he just avoided with the ridiculous preemptive pardons (which he said 4 years ago he'd never do).
