Seth Emerson on Bobo/Beck

Maybe this has been posted, but here's a take by Seth Emerson on the play-calling against Kentucky.

I'm kind of wait-and-see on Bobo, and I do think the buck stops with him in this offensive gameplan. But Emerson puts some of the running into stacked boxes on Beck and gives a good example. Of course, I realize that posting this may draw the "facts don't matter Bobo haters" in here and Bobo outrage will ensue, but I think Emerson's is a take worth noting:

"There was too much running into stacked boxes by the Bulldogs, which often is not on the play call but the quarterback: Carson Beck can check into a pass or pull the ball and throw a quick screen. We don’t live in a world anymore where the offensive coordinator just calls the plays and the players run them. This is the world of run-pass options and checks at the line.

An example: On second-and-10 late in the first quarter, Kentucky had seven defenders in the box against a six-man Georgia line. Beck handed the ball to Branson Robinson, who ran into a wall and got 2 yards. Dominic Lovett stayed at the line on the snap, with Dillon Bell in front of him as if to block, evidently because the play called for a screen to Lovett if Beck chose to throw the ball, which he should have done." My pregame/post game analysis of ALA game

I have a low budget non revenue website where I pick a few games each week ATS and provide reasons. I actually picked our game this week which is something rarely done. This is what I had:

Both teams have shown they can go out and flatten a Power 4 team away from campus. Both have shown they can struggle a bit as the Tide needed a 4th quarter surge at home to finish off South Florida. The Dogs showed problems of their own with surviving by one at Kentucky when UGA was a 24 point favorite. Looking at past performances are not good indicators of what will show up Saturday night for either side. The talent level of both looks similar. Both have balanced offenses. Both have quality and depth on defense. Where I start seeing a difference is how healthy each club is. The Dogs lost starting Right Guard Tate Ratledge for six weeks. The Dogs DL has had missing pieces all season. Alabama looks to have just about everyone available. How important is this? When Tide OT Kayden Proctor was out, the Bama offense was out of sync. When Alabama got their OL starters back, scoring TDs became easier and more common. The other issue I look at is something I mention every week: QB play. Jalen Milroe of ALA looks to be playing with more confidence than Carson Beck. The other advantage of that is Milroe’s ability to run and generate plays and new sets of downs. These are the little things that can add up and lead to good things. On the other hand, the UGA OL has shown tendencies to miss a few assignments putting Beck in difficult situations. Maybe this is a reason Beck doesn’t look to have the confidence he had last season. This game is more critical for Georgia than Alabama. Why? Look at the schedules. If UGA loses here, they still have to play at Texas, at Ole Miss and a home date with Tennessee. Two losses puts them in jeopardy of being shut out of the post season 12. Three will be a nail in the coffin. There is more pressure for Georgia.

In this one, if the Dogs get the lead, Alabama has the offense to come back. If Bama gets the lead, Georgia is in trouble. This has shown to be consistent in most of the recent match ups outside of the 2021 Championship game. For some reason that I don’t know, UGA is favored by one. As the little things start adding up through the game, that is the team who wins. Alabama seems to be doing this better than the Dogs so I’ll take the point and Alabama at home.

Post game thoughts: ALA has a source of generating offense that we haven't had since Bennett was QB. Saban figured this out almost ten years ago and changed to a mobile QB with Sims, Hurts, TT13 and now Milroe. Getting 30 points was no longer enough so Nick adjusted to have something that was successful attacking his defenses which was a mobile QB. We have trouble defending this. Tonight, we got down big and became pretty much one dimensional the rest of the game. I feel better about having to defend Texas, but we could run into the same issue when UT comes around. Vols are not ALA, but they look pretty good to me right now and are a threat. I'm hoping we can bring the mobile QB back to our offense. It seems to work.

My thoughts

Because we need 1 more thread right?

Last night had all the makings of a snooze fest. 3rd straight offense with no real shot to be effective, 3rd straight game where offensively we just needed to get up a TD and its ball game. Bad weather all week, Bama next week, Bama looking like shit vs USF. Etc. Throw in BV who is tight with several on the team still as is JDJ who was an all American here and leader. An arrest the day before. Last night was always going to be weird. What I didn’t expect was how weird it would get.

Defensively, I wouldn’t put much stock into much negative last night. We are so good on that side of the ball. We haven’t even really gotten into the fun stuff yet either and have dominated on just players really. We are aggressive and blitz and send fun stuff. But we’ve been pretty vanilla behind it and next week starts the fun.

When we go 93, 52, 97(once back) + Mykell or Jalon, that’s a dominant group. McCleod flashed night, Naz is sturdy and solid, Chaz played more last night than he will once 13 is back. Our DL is ferocious. Jah Jarret, JJA, Gabe Harris, got a ton of run last night. The interior guys are set with the ones mentioned above + Jordan Hall when he returns. We are going to be damn salty and haven’t turned up the pass rush yet.

Raylen Wilson is a super star and will be an X factor next week on Milroe. He’s the playmaker out of the ILB’s. Smael and him together are unfair fast. CJ is solid, his head has him playing slower than the other 2 currently. Secondary is filthy.

Offensively we are going to be ok, and that’s not a popular opinion. Last night begins and ends with execution early that turned into boredom and lack of leadership until ETN took over. Losing Tate hurts from that perspective. Morris is probably a better overall player but he’s not as savvy and he’s not the leader of the squad like Tate is. That’s a big blow.

We have way more in the bag to run than what was shown last night. But it’s frustrating to watch us struggle with the easy stuff too. Bad throws galore. Rushed throws by Carson feet wise he didn’t have too. The perimeter blocking cost us 20+ points and netted us 100 threads on this board by proxy. It was horrendous. Yurosek hasn’t blocked a soul in 3 games. Lovett was bad out there blocking. That has to get cleaned up.

We don’t have the TE receivers currently. Luckie is solid and needs more run but moving forward you’ll see 6 man protections with the TE staying in pass pro to get ETN/Frazier on a LB 1v1. You’ll also see bell and Arian in the slot way more moving forward. They’re all 3 slot guys. Really need Humphries and young to come on. When they’re in the game playing wide bumping 1 of the others inside, we are more explosive that way with a real X threat. That’s not Bell. He will be a big time playmaker but manufacturing touches. He’s not super effective manufacturing them for himself as a wide receiver.

Overall, we are going to show up to Tuscaloosa next weekend ready to scorch earth and make statement. We will learn a lot about our leadership and QB next weekend. I still think we roll and you’ll see a whole new sense of purpose from the offense early and often.

Teams need these games, last night was never going to be an L but damn it didn’t have to be that close either. Practice is going to be HELL all week and the missing ingredient is player leadership.

Nobody, and I repeat NOBODY is scoring enough on this Defense for us to need to a 2022 OSU performance barring us pulling a 2021 SECG scheme trick. We just need to figure out how to hit 30 and we will be damn near impossible to beat.

Just got to say this

At some point, UGA has to find a way to beat Bama. Kirby is 1-6 against them. That’s just a fact. And more, UGA is 1-9 against Bama in our last 10 games. Just another fact. I hate reality.

My gripe is that UGA can’t finish against Bama. I don’t know why, we always play them close, but they win every close game against us ( I know we won the Natty, but we were up 8 points when we had the Ringo pick6).

There are no more excuses for this team. Please don’t tell me you are proud. Why would you be proud? Because we came back (after getting our ass kicked in the 1st half), took the lead, then gave up a 70 yard touchdown pass with 2 minutes left, only to drive down with a chance to win, and throw a pick. That’s B.S. I’m sorry guys, that is not good enough for what we are supposed to be. It’s just not.

Radi and Dayne, ya'll really need to see if you can get CJD to bring Barry Switzer on for a Live episode. That'd be great entertainment.

"Last Saturday, an ESPN reporter was with Switzer at the Oklahoma-Tennessee game in Norman, Oklahoma, when a fan asked him, "I saw Coach Saban said college football is going to the dogs. What's he talking about?"

"I think he was talking about Georgia," Switzer said, laughing. "They're beating everybody's ass.""

Cope for a few more hours and then the Hate of Auburn must begin

No excuses. The inbred sheep lovers of Lee County Alabama and the Reverend Freeze need to be destroyed.
Not beaten, but thoroughly embarrassed and sent home to their cult members who sit around a stupid tree with dirty rear ends.

From their mascots for each day of the week to copycat hedges and unethical ways in history that make politicians look admirable, those third class citizens deserve the wrath of humanity. Our beloved Dawgs must help the world rid of the stench of any type of orange and anything associated with it.

Go Dawgs!

Take your little flutes home…

JMHO:
We have a lot of former flute players on here posting like they are experts.
We faced the perfect storm last night ( in facing Alabama in Tuscaloosa ).
We hurt ourselves immensely, had a few bad calls, got no breaks, fell far behind, but never quit.
I’m telling you, the tide has turned.
We are the better team.
DeBoer is a clock management infant.
Championships will be hard to come by due to some precarious future home field advantages, but UGA will be at the forefront.
Take your flutes and go home.

And before you begin whining and crying and bitching, I’m not expert either, but I’ve been around long enough to know some things and I’ve had the shit kicked out of me for less noble causes.
Go Dawgs!
Since 1964, when I was 12.

This season comes down to Beck not being close to the player we hoped he would be

We knew our receivers were lacking but we all counted on having a legit top 3 quarterback in the country elevating the offense.

But we don't.

Bobo has got to go and Searles and the DB coach from USC.

Probably time to let Tray Scott walk as well.

Having said all that I'm grateful we got two when we did because the odds of it happening a third time are incredibly slim. Lots of great football coaches never got to three much less two.

This is what happens when You

dont throw the ball alot and think you can just turn it on during the heat of a game. We were not prepared for that hostile enviroment or their fast paced game plan. That is all coaching and Beck is not the answer. Threw terrible balls, when not pressured, and not accurate. I could go on and on but if we won, I would still be smdh at the effort in the first half. Something has to be done about that. Seems our O is going back to the old MR era.
