Latest Wasserman B/R draft analysis regarding Asa Newell

2025 NBA Draft: Surprise Risers Teams Need to Be Watching

Asa Newell, Georgia PF/C

  • “Updated projected draft range: Late lottery-mid-first round.
  • Playing 26.3 minutes per game as a freshman, Asa Newell is tied for the nation's lead in dunks. Timing and motor have helped the 6'11", 220-pound big optimize every inch of size and length. Even if the heavy majority of his baskets are coming off teammates' creativity, Newell clearly has a knack for putting himself in the right spots to pick up easy baskets off the catch and second-chance opportunities.

But now he's starting make jump shots. He shot over 40.0 percent from three at Montverde Academy, and while we're still talking about a small sample size of recent accuracy at Georgia, his high school tape, visible confidence and comfort level suggest that Newell can continue to be a pick-and-pop, catch-and-shoot threat.

There's also been a lot to like about Newell's defense, particularly how he covers ground, sticks with ball-handlers on switches and gets out to contest shots away from the basket. He'll have to clean up some footwork, but overall, opponents are shooting 26.3 percent against his closeouts.”

Much different Christmas

Wife has been dealing with what she believed was a kidney stone over the last week. Couple that with her falling in the tub Saturday afternoon while I wasn’t home. Didn’t know she hit her head until Sunday afternoon. Late afternoon, her speech changed and she developed balance issues. Thinking she had a concussion, I called 911, who sent an ambulance to check her out and transport her to the hospital.

Did a knowledge dump of most of what is shared above, with a few more details. They ran urine test and found she has a UTI, also did CAT scan which came back clear, and ordered an MRI and ultrasound of neck arteries to make sure they weren’t missing anything.

Because I mentioned a fall in the bathtub where she hit her head, they were trying to determine if she had a concussion or possibly a stroke. Everything, CAT scan, MRI and neck arteries checked out clear.

By Monday afternoon she was doing better, but after 2nd round of antibiotic didn’t produce expected effect, they did more blood work and found she has E-Coli which was resistant to the original antibiotic.

So, another night in the hospital.

Seems like she’ll be discharged tomorrow, because today being Christmas, they don’t think they’ll be able to get the PICC line installed today, because she’ll need to be on the antibiotic for another 10-14 days.

So, spending Christmas time in the hospital definitely wasn’t the original plans, but I’m so very thankful those working during this time have done their best to get her better before discharging her.

Guys, moral of the story, if your wife or significant other complains about kidney pains, don’t wait. Ensure she gets tested sooner rather than later.

It helps insure bigger problems don’t arise or create worse problems that could have been preventable, like a multi day hospital stay.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!!

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas

and a lovely day with family.

I spent the day with my wife, son, and in-laws.

Still, I had this place in the back of my mind all day. This is my other family. This community is amazing. It's the real gift of being here. News ebbs and flows but the community is the real heart of UGASports. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I am blessed to be a part of it.

Has it crossed anyone’s mind that maybe Kirby’s philosophy on the portal is actually helping us?

I don’t want to bring too much logic into this discussion, but I’ve heard enough belly aching over the lack of portal pick-ups. Kirby obviously has a strategy and puts a priority on retaining who he wants to. I think this builds the team stronger from within, and that can be the difference when two uber-talented teams go toe to toe. If you don’t trust Kirby now, then I don’t think he can win you over.

Woman set on fire on Subway

Maybe Germans but don't care. Some think the victim was asleep when the man set her on fire. she died on scene.

Per the article, the asshole was an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who was deported in 2018 but recently illegally reentered the country (shocker)

Can you imagine your last moments on earth are fully on fire after just being woken up? Just awful

This Kirby quote from my Dan Jackson story rings a little true today

“I think about where we'd be without him. Just a lot of respect for him and his leadership,” Smart said. “All these kids that want to go and transfer and change and do all this. You look at a guy like Dan Jackson. He is what college football is all about, guys. He's not asking for more money. He's not trying to go somewhere else. The guy just loves Georgia.”

The best Christmas present is always my wife and I are healthy.

This years UGA hoops team is the next best present I've had in a long time. Been waiting a while for the dogs to have the talent to really compete and a coach that appears to know how to use it. I get all the games down here either on Youtube tv or streaming sites here that are not legal in the US. We've all gotten a heck of a gift let's enjoy it. Feliz Navidad amigos.
