SVP and Stanford Steve
SVP: Dabo said after Georgia, that's a team where you can get exposed. (pause) Georgia's terrifying man. Terrifying. Clemson's offense is not great. We understand that. But they held Clemson to 188 yards. They've won 40 consecutive regular season games. You know how f*****g ridiculous that is? Forty consecutive regular season games and they play in the SEC. They are terrifying on defense. And they are no bargain on offense. They struggled to get going...and Clemson, give them credit, they battled. But 60 minutes is a long time to be in the ring with Georgia. Clemson doesn't do the portal. Everybody's talking about that. What is Clemson?
Stanford Steve: I saw a lot of fight in them despite the score. I saw Dabo before this game and he was super confident. He had a lot of confidence in his guys that they were gonna play hard. And they had some opportunities in the first half, but had some penalties. But you get down there in the RZ, you have to score a TD. And Georgia, on the other hand, the way they come at you in waves offensively and defensively. There is no one like it in college football. And what's scary about them is there are no Jalen Carters. There are no Leonard Davis'
. There's no first round pick on the DL, but they have an army of guys on the back end. Talkin' to people down there this offseason it's like "We love our LBers. You gotta see these guys. Blah, blah, blah." And you talk about the secondary and you see what they do. And Dabo was really confident in these freshman receivers. And one of them I was watching. He was doing a really good job. But over the course of the game, that pressure this defense puts on you. You saw it wearing on them. Klubnik gets a little hesitant. Clemson needed a fast start more than anyone playing this weekend. They didn't get it, but they hung around. You get the ball. You got a chance. But they couldn't get over the hump and that's because of Georgia and how relentless they are. It comes right from their head coach and they are a problem. And they are matched up against Kentucky week three and UK could be undefeated and Gameday could be there. And I'm hoping for that. That fanbase is a lot of fun and they get jazzed up there. But come kickoff, let's see what you got. There's nothing like the no. 1 team on the road. It's what makes college football great. What impressed you most about Georgia?
SVP: You said it. It's relentless pressure. And sometimes with explosive teams it feels like it's obvious all the time. With Georgia, it feels it's inevitable that they're gonna hit big plays. And they didn't even have their compliment of RBs in this game. They're gonna get better at that position. And when you recruit at that level, you can absorb losses and it doensn't impact you. It just doesn't impact them. You knew that Clemson's inability to get the TD and inability to ever get their nose out in front or get equal with them was going to be costly. And at halftime I'm thinking, there's no chance they are going to stay within this number of deficit. Because you know the score is one thing and the game is different and the game ain't this score. And thirty minutes from now it's gonna be what it is. And Georgia doesn't have to land knock out punches to knock you out. They just grind you into dust. They pulverize you.
Stanford Steve: You know what else is just amazing. They tackle. They tackle in the open field better than anyone.
SVP: When they arrive you go down. When they hit you short of the sticks, you go down. And it doesn't matter if it's a backer, a db, a dl, you fall down where you are. You don't fall forward. When you were talking about Kirby, I was laughing because I was just thinking about when he was talking to Holly before TCU and "What do you want to see from your guys?" "AGGRESSION!" That was it.
Stanford Steve: Do you think he meant that?
SVP: Yes! He wanted TCU to die and they did.
Ruffino and Joe
Ruffino: No touchdowns in the last 120 minutes of football for Georgia. Beck struggled early, but settled down in the second half. The depth overwhelmed Clemson. Your thoughts?
Joe: This game couldn't have gone any better for my prediction. Clemson doesn't have the receiving talent. I've been banging the drum incessantly that Clemson does not have the WRs to compete with a team like Georgia. I was stunned by the people trying to say this would be a close game. It was unbelievably ridiculous. This game had no chance of being close except for the first half. When the second half started, the athletes started to separate and that was the real scope of these two teams. Georgia continues to win in the most boring way possible, which is great. You play stout ass defense. You punch teams in the face. You get turnovers when you need them. You have a ridiculous athlete in Starks who can change a game in an instant which is ridiculous to say about any safety in college football. And Beck's composure with pressure in his face against a good defensive line, that's what's gonna win another national title. That will have ridiculous dividends at the end of the year. I've never been more in on Georgia than after seeing that game.
Ruffino: You know what I thought was funny about this game
Landon Humphreys
. Let me tell you why. Landon Humphreys was their leading receiver yesterday in yardage. Clemson needs receivers, but when you don't portal depth starts taking over. The Georgia OL vs. the Clemson DL in the first half was an outright war. The Clemson defense played well in the first half. In the second half, Georgia started scheming up a little bit and they started taking over. But the front seven of Clemson is nasty. We gotta start taking a look at Garrett Riley. At Klubnick. Does he need to sit?
Joe: I don't know who they have after him.
Ruffino: I don't care! At some point you have to find a way to get the ball vertical. Georgia stacked the box. They played bump n' run on the outside. They put a safety at nickel and said "We dare you to throw it. We're gonna put Starks up close to the box on run downs. And we dare you to throw it." And then he makes a ridiculous pick. And I thought in the early part of that game Georgia's DL got pushed around sometimes. But later on Kirby started yelling at them and I'm like "Uh-oh. Clemson's in trouble." Georgia top to bottom is the best overall team in the country. They're not gonna win games in a flashy manner. Doesn't matter. And Nate Frazier is a dog. And arguably their best offensive player was on the sidelines. And Kirby's like "Y'all want me to do something about all these driving arrests? I'm gonna take my best offensive weapon. I'm gonna sit him and we're still gonna beat the absolute dog shit out of somebody." And that's exactly what happened.
Joe: They're not gonna beat you like Miami with all these splashy plays. They're just gonna grind you down, grind you down, grind you down. It may be close into the second quarter, but eventually they're going to break away. They're going to beat your ass into the ground so much that by the fourth quarter there is huge separation. That's exactly what happened. That's what happened last year. And eventually these long runs, long pass plays, interceptions, the sacks all start to accumulate because of the style of play that they have.
