There is no doubt that some of the stupid shit Trump says is done intentionally to grab attention, sometimes towards a specific issue that is a winner for him. There are other times he just says dumb shit. Honestly believe the left / media plays right into his hands here.

As I mentioned in another post, the strategy of insulting the intelligence of anyone who would even consider voting for Trump is a proven loser (2016).

The left would be better served pointing out the dumb shit but then pivoting to legit policy answers. When they go way over the top with the criticism over and over again, the criticism starts to feel like it extends to anyone who might consider voting for him. He says things that would disqualify any other candidate and it’s been dismissed as “Trump being Trump”. Harris is taking a different approach, calling the crazy what it is and I think it’s working.
